D&D 5E (2014) A new, old-school, high fantasy setting for 5E is coming soon: the Chronicles of Aeres

Ah, thank you very much! Our ratfolk go on adventures side by side with humans, elfs, and other people, and they can be quite heroic, not at all like Skaven or wererats.

D&D 5E (2014) A new, old-school, high fantasy setting for 5E is coming soon: the Chronicles of Aeres

Yes, we'll have an Aeres-specific legendary dragon with its own stat block, but regular D&D dragons could also be used without issue.

D&D 5E (2014) A new, old-school, high fantasy setting for 5E is coming soon: the Chronicles of Aeres

A new piece of art for you guys, from Tyler Vail. Normal dragons in our setting are extraordinarily rare, and some adventurers spend years looking for their treasure hoards, only to come up empty-handed. One day, some poor fool's going to get lucky.

D&D 5E (2014) A new, old-school, high fantasy setting for 5E is coming soon: the Chronicles of Aeres

Thanks for the feedback. Some of my names are intentionally stereotypical. "The Tomb of Horrors" and "The Isle of Dread" weren't exactly electrifying names, even in their times. So, do these areas inspire confidence that you're going to get a complex Malazan-like experience by visiting them...

How many sessions did you game this year?

12 sessions, each session about 5-6 hours. An 88,000 word campaign, this was the binder:

D&D 5E (2014) A new, old-school, high fantasy setting for 5E is coming soon: the Chronicles of Aeres

A piece of artwork for ya'll. One part Skeksis, one part Draconian, one part Ridley, the twisted Draconvir are monstrous shock troopers of a Dark Emperor. A version of them will be a playable race as well!

D&D 5E (2014) What is the appeal of the weird fantasy races?

I will say thank goodness for Heroforge. Without them, it might have been challenging to have ratfolk in my world, since Heroforge is literally the only site where you can make a ratfolk hero who doesn't look a Skaven, nor do they look like a chibi Mouseguard toon. Beyond gameplay...

D&D General What Kind Of Setting Does Your Group Use?

#2. It doesn't need to be collaborative because I'm very close to my players, and I already know what they're going to like and expect from the setting. So everything they encounter is like a little present they get to unwrap.

D&D 5E (2014) A new, old-school, high fantasy setting for 5E is coming soon: the Chronicles of Aeres

Thanks for helping us reach our Kickstarter goals. If you're just now seeing this thread, feel free to check us out on Youtube, where we have a short trailer and a handful of videos about the setting: The Chronicles of Aeres is a classical high fantasy setting brimming with nostalgia for the...

D&D General What is the appeal of Tolkien fantasy races?

There's also the 7000-year-old Sumerian lizardfolk, which they apparently made dozens of figures of for some reason. They're especially weird, because the females are seen nursing babies who are also lizards... a distinct and unusual depiction to say the least.

A new piece of art for you folks. This is one of our new classes, the Dreamcaller. They siphon power from the world of dreams and nightmares, gathering strength, until they can summon fearful eidolons from the dreamworld. A combination of a mesmeric class and a conjurer/summoner.

D&D General What is the appeal of Tolkien fantasy races?

They're personifications of human traits which real humans are reluctant to acknowledge. So by playing as one, you can represent some aspect of humanity that you normally wouldn't, without feeling guilty about it. Human haughtiness, a focus on superficial beauty, hubris, superiority, and a...
