Where’s The Deathstalker RPG? Part 1

Dark Crystal and Labyrinth both got RPGs, and I can see the clear reasoning behind those. Now, if there's any other 80s fantasy movie that deserves its own RPG that doesn't have one, I'd say it's Krull. It's got clearly defined species, classes, monsters, magic items. It's got a clear villains...

D&D General Satanic Panic at the Disco- Did Beelzebubba Cause D&D's First Crash, Y'all?

At the time, you could flip a coin between blaming heavy metal or D&D. Or have it land on its edge and blame both.

Where’s The Deathstalker RPG? Part 1

Deathstalker 2 is a hoot (though still problematic). Deathstalker 1 is pretty vile. The rest are forgettable. Supposedly there's a remake being made, which is...surprising. If I wanted to play a Deathstalker RPG, I'd just get a time machine and import a teenager into heavy metal and D&D from...

    AD&D/OSRIC: How did initiative work?

For a lot of AD&D's more complicated mechanics, yeah, we just defaulted to how Basic D&D did things.

Goodman Games Revives Relationship With Anti-Semitic Publisher For New City State Kickstarter [UPDATED]

Sorry, but that's arguing semantics. If Goodman Games were to pay a license to publish my old world of Nevere as a setting, people would say "Goodman Games is working with Ralif Redhammer." Followed by "Who in the world is Ralif Redhammer?"

D&D General Satanic Panic at the Disco- Did Beelzebubba Cause D&D's First Crash, Y'all?

In his book The Dungeon Master, William Dear does sort-of recant. But by then, four years after James Dallas Eggbert III died by suicide, it was way too late. I totally remember the whole Proctor & Gamble thing being on the news when I was a kid! Didn't it recently come to light from the guy...

Goodman Games Revives Relationship With Anti-Semitic Publisher For New City State Kickstarter [UPDATED]

There are plenty of legitimate reasons to want to add CSIO to the OAR line. It's significant to D&D's history, it's a wild, gonzo setting that fits with DCC RPG, it's expensive on the second-hand market, and was printed on poor-quality paper. Unfortunately, all those don't add up against...

Goodman Games Revives Relationship With Anti-Semitic Publisher For New City State Kickstarter [UPDATED]

I get the feeling that the Goodman Games crew has a lot of attachment to the original CSIO. That they grew up with Judges Guild products. And thus it's become a blind spot. for them. Their nostalgia for it and desire to make this happen are outweighing the very concrete reasons why they should...

New Tunnels & Trolls first look at UK Games Expo.

I've played my share of T&T, and I would say that the retro feel is part of the appeal. The rules are relatively unchanged since its inception, and the art generally backs that mood up.

    General video game discussion

Michelle Rodriguez would be cool. I could see her playing Spider Murphy. And that would also be a good cue for them to resolve the Rache Bartmoss mystery.

    General video game discussion

As great as his performance is, I hope not. Maybe as a cloned version, sure (as people have posited the potential existence of, in addition to Alt), but another engram Silverhand would not be my choice for a second game. I suppose another option would be an AI version beyond the Blackwall, but I...

What are you reading in 2025?

It was after reading Womack's afterword to Neuromancer that I thought "I have to read something by a guy that writes like this!" So far, I am digging it.

What are you reading in 2025?

I finished reading Farren's Vickers. Fun, but it's held back by not having real depth like the titans of the cyberpunk genre. And the twist is visible a mile away. Now I'm reading Jack Womack's Ambient. It really is perfectly written. Light when needed, portentous and deep when that is called...

    Video Games You Wish Existed

Easy answer is Bloodborne 2. Going more in-depth: I'd love to see Insomniac do a game about Morbius. A cyberpunk dating sim kinda like Boyfriend Dungeon would be cool. A remaster of Drakan: The Ancient Gates.

What are you reading in 2025?

A Wizard of Earthsea is fantastic. It's a book I didn't come to until my mid-twenties, and I really wish I had gotten to it sooner.

Goodbye to Alarums and Excursions APA

That's a bummer. I've read a few old issues, and while they're sometimes a bit like only hearing parts of a conversation, they are important windows into gaming fandom of yore.

Goodman Games Revives Relationship With Anti-Semitic Publisher For New City State Kickstarter [UPDATED]

One thing I think we've all seen with bigots is that they might consider specific marginalized people that they know "one of the good ones" while spouting hatred about that same group of marginalized people in general. The ability of some people to see themselves as the good guys in a...

Goodman Games Revives Relationship With Anti-Semitic Publisher For New City State Kickstarter [UPDATED]

Within the first few pages of CSIO, it talks about his secret police. I don't think any good ruler has ever been described as having secret police. Sigh...at this point they really need to cancel the crowdfunding project. No matter how much they are fans of the original.

Goodman Games Revives Relationship With Anti-Semitic Publisher For New City State Kickstarter [UPDATED]

Eww, it's pretty gross. And it shows that the Bledsaws are unrepentant. Choosing to do business with them is a mistake.

Rant: The WORST way to encourage people to try other games than D&D

Oh yeah, he had some solid ideas. But I got really tired of the constant clickbait titles. I think a lot of streamers do end up victims of YouTube's algorithm, especially the people that make it their entire or partial living, chasing what gets them the most likes and clicks.
