Do you have a local game store?

I am curious exactly how prevalent game stores are for the ENWorld users. So, I decided it's time for a simple poll. Do you have a LGS? An FLGS? More than one? Edit: People asked for some definitions. Game store: Store that has significant sections for RPGs, and where you would expect...

DDI - What's happening to the Virtual Game Table and Character Visualiser?

Indeed, I started a thread here on ENWorld asking opinions on online gaming in general because of the survey results, and most of the responses were "I would never game online."

    What's so special about Blackmoor?

Note that Blackmoor is the setting of Judges Guild's "First Fantasy Campaign" supplement. I admit, I never managed to snag a copy (copies were going on eBay just a hair over what I was willing to pay, before they jumped to well over what I was willing to pay). It's a shame it wasn't one of the...

    Is PHB 2 really "Core?"

It says "such as" which blunts the "need." Otherwise, I would "need" a pencil. Given I always use pens and never use pencils, I would have to stop playing D&D.

Dragon 375 - Expeditionary Dispatches: The Mournland Express

I finally got a chance to read it. Some very useful bits here. There are plenty of adventure hooks that immediately suggest themselves, even without those specifically listed in the adventure. I could even see a whole campaign (at least a whole heroic tier campaign) centered around the...

Dragon 375 - Expeditionary Dispatches: The Mournland Express

Very good. A few obviously dragonmarked individuals, but still no obvious idea of how they will be handled in 4E (I like the suggested "multiclassing" variation suggested elsewhere). Then again, I have only scanned the article. Once I get a chance to read it, I may get more hints.

    Is PHB 2 really "Core?"

A little (poorly thought out) joke:

    Is PHB 2 really "Core?"

And are the varying definitions of "core" really so confusing? Haven't we been using the term "level" with even more definitions since day one, anyway? I got a new spell level when I gained a level for clearing the monsters in the dungeon level, and the only treasure was a magic level.

    Is PHB 2 really "Core?"

Potential, but the non-new player is really the one most likely to be confused. They don't have the same preconceptions of "core" that some experienced players do. A good friend of mine taught me that before you have an argument that you define your terms. Nothing is as pointless as arguing...

WotC just mailed out VILLAGE OF HOMMLET 4E..got mine

Has anyone compared this to the RPGA adventure by Mike Mearls "The Return to the Moathouse"? I suspect from comments that they are two different approaches (since the RPGA adventure doesn't touch on Hommlet at all). The two could be used as a basis for a whole campaign.

    Monk Preview

Long story shorter... They came up with the "full discipline" idea and realized it wouldn't work as a mechanic for all classes that would have been under the ki source. Also, having all "asian" classes use the ki source would have been as silly as having all western classes use a single power...

    Monk Preview

No, Ki is no more. They decided that lumping all those classes together didn't make sense. More than likely you will see them scattered across other power sources.

    Monk Preview

I can see it. I just didn't expect it (especially with the known Ki power source to be revealed).

    Monk Preview

Hmmm, Monk is Psionic? Monk is up here. I'm not surprised he is a striker. A bit that he is psionic. Edit: And the explanation is in the Design & Development article on the monk. (The Ki power source turned out to be "untenable."

WotC: Character Builder's effect on Third Party Publishers

One thing I hope for in the future is better 3rd party support. That being said, I haven't really played with the ability to create house rules yet. What can be done with 3rd party products now? How far can I go with implementing a new class or race? Still, I have to admit, this does point...

    New WotC D&D DMing Survey

Indeed, using stats from the D&D Compendium, sometimes you have no choice but to reskin. Some of the "creature" stats have few identifying information. You often have a name that gives you no clue (such as a persons name), a descriptor or two (say...undead) and a set of stats that don't give...

    New WotC D&D DMing Survey

I wonder how they will interpret some of the answers. For example, I marked I never use a monster builder to create monsters. It's not for lack of interest, it's because none of the existing monster builders come up to my minimum standards.

D&D 4E Running player commentary on PCat's 4E Campaign - Heroic tier (finished)

One thing to remember is that a key element of this house rule for PC was that it could easily be implemented within the character builder software. This solution doesn't sound like it can be.

    Huge/Gargantuan/Colossal Minis

Yes, that happened a bit ago. A shame since their website did an OK job of handling the line. It did need some improvement, but Paizo's isn't really an improvement.

    Town battle maps?

The 3.5 Fantastic Locations City of Peril product has some nice city battlemaps. A visual is here. Paizo's City Market fits the bill as well. They also have a couple of locations that can work in a city (a tavern, a keep, a theatre, a cathedral and an arena). Edit: Oops, missed that you were...
