D&D 5E (2014) D&D Next Art Column: June! And July!

Even if you look at modern works, I can almost guarantee they weren't created in a vacuum. Ask any of their creators and I'm sure they'll list any number of old "out dated" sources as inspiration even if their work seems dramatically different. In any art class they'll teach you about classic...

I keep Tinkerbell's head in an old ladies coin purse.

renau1g in reference to your comment about my not being around much lately... Yeah it's just you- I can't take the smell. :P Kidding of course! I just bought a house, and subsequently moved into said house... So my posting has been drastically reduced while we get everything settled in and...

I keep Tinkerbell's head in an old ladies coin purse.

Wouldn't magic with a defined set of rules for how it works just kind of be science? That would really bore me I think.

WotC has a plan for their D&D archive. What is it!?

Given their relationship with Penny Arcade Child's Play maybe?

D&D 5E (2014) Ed Greenwood to write 5E's Forgotten Realms

I would like to see them do what they do with all the star wars games... Just release the realms with different "era" books and let US choose where/when we want to set our campaigns.

D&D 5E (2014) My D&D Next Wishlist: Bring back XP for GP!

In 3e I remember they talk about awarding experience even if they didn't fight the monster... like if they snuck past it or something. The biggest detractor from this though was the amount of prep-work an encounter took... Sneaking past a monster that took the DM 3 hours to prepair is.. well...

So its all about combat again?

Nah it's the owlbear's less popular cousin.

Should there be special rules for subduing dragons?

Stuff like this demonstrates that the 1e rules seem to be built based on: Gary's group decides to Do X... Gary comes up with some rules to do X (maybe on the fly). Later when it's all collected into the 1e books it becomes "official" by virtue of being in a book. :P I think that's kind of...

D&D 5E (2014) Poll on the Reaper: is damage on missed melee attack roll believable and balanced?

I think it depends on where the rule enters in actually. With the healing rates prior to 4e I'm not sure it really DID imply anything. It was just a game rule largely you heal X amount per day, but it didn't really describe what that healing meant. You could still divorce it from one...

D&D 5E (2014) Poll on the Reaper: is damage on missed melee attack roll believable and balanced?

Personally I don't think the issue is whether it's believable, or realistic, or whatever... It's that there is a rule at all. What I mean is that now with the rule attached it kind of forces you to believe at least a bit that HPs are not = to physical wounds wheras before it didn't really...

    Bounded Accuracy L&L

He DID say as you gain levels you gain extra abilities. Perhaps for powerful monsters (and maybe certain PCs) this means extra attacks?

    D&D 5E (2014) I Don't Like Damage On A Miss

Overall yeah I think talking about spells in general should go into another thread- I'm just trying to get an idea of what's causing the problem for you (and possibly others that have your same feeling?) I don't have the same issue with damage on a miss, so the only way I can comprehend why...

    D&D 5E (2014) I Don't Like Damage On A Miss

I'm not good with numbers, so I guess the second option. :P I wasn't really thinking of the roll itself, more that since base armor class is presumably 10 then if he hits 10 or higher he's still thwacked the armor?

    D&D 5E (2014) I Don't Like Damage On A Miss

Maybe change it to on a roll of 10 or higher? (To account for complete and utter misses.) On a roll of 10 or higher the miss still does damage? Maybe do the same with spells that hit on a miss as well.

Yes- I keep trying, but I have yet to develop the power of telepathy. So should the same thing happen with the wizard spells?
