    Game with actions pool?

Pair O' Dice (completely obscure game from the late 90s, never published, played by less than a dozen people) had a really convoluted "real time" initiative system like that. Basically initiative was tracked on a piece of ruled paper. At the beginning of combat you roll for your reaction and...

    Non-supernatural horror

War. War never changes. One thing I don't see here is probably the horrific thing that someone has a reasonable chance of experiencing. Serial killers? Cannibal cults? Man eating lions? One in a million. In any given town, maybe 1 or two detectives have ever even come close to seeing...

    Scifi rpgs with technological environments

Did you read the parts of d20 modern about traps? I assume that he meant that d20 future is a "sci fi" part of a game that does include rules for traps both generic and specific.

    Creepy Atmospheric Music suggestions?

Not really music, but you can get the background audio files off an old copy of one of the fallout video games, I can't recall which one at the moment, very good for natural ambiance. Also one or two of the pieces off the X3: Terran Conflict sound track are creepy, but most of them would not be...

    d20 Modern Database

That is an incorrect use of the OGL. See section 8: In cases where OGL material co-exists with non OGL material in the same publication, you need to clearly define what parts are OGL content and which ones are not. For instance, I am pretty sure that the official character sheets are not OGL...

What does your ENWorld name mean?

Some of the US German immigrants around ~1890 intentionally swapped 'ei' and 'ie' in their names to sound more English, not realizing that the English pronunciation of the letters was practically the opposite. I don't know how many did so, but I know my fathers family did.

Thinking of returning to AD&D 2nd ed... Advice needed.

If you lived in the Florida Panhandle, I could help you out. I have a shelf full of 2e stuff I will never use again. I've been thinking about selling them on craigslist, but the only books typically sold there are textbooks.

What does your ENWorld name mean?

My name means "Divine Wind" one Indian dialect and "far traveler" in another. It is the name of the fiery sword wielded by Lord Vishnu. In Japanese Ashi-Nadaka is the name of a goddess Princess-of-eight-rivers-and-inlets. It is the also the name of a really annoying Indian pop singer and a...

How much time do you spend thinking/reading about gaming vs. actual play time?

10x or more... I rarely get to play, busy with life and living 2 states away from my gaming groups.

    Do you use electrum pieces?

I use them to annihilate positrons. OOHH... electrUM. I don't. I use Purchase DC's in D20 modern. I don't hand out wealth bonuses either, but a PDC that compares to the wealth score and grants an increase to wealth equivalent to the loss that would normally be suffered if you purchased an...

    d20 Modern Database

Minor note, I know you don't have any SRD articles in there (or at least the few I clicked on) BUt you need to be sure to include a copy of the OGL in there to comply with the license.

    Your favorite character advancement scheme

In the mid 90's I had a home brew sci-fi game that I called "Pair O' Dice" that gave a bonus to skills on a FAILED skill check. That way you were always rewarded for trying something. IIRC, on a failed skill check you earned the less of your %chance of success or failure * 1% to the skill. if...

    Nadaka's DiceBox is back

Attention Dicebox users: someone has been using the web service access option for the dice box... This is good news to me as it means that someone is likely incorporating the dicebox in their own website. I have however recieved and error message in my auto-logging system related to this. I've...

Would Appreciate Help Classifying Modern Firearms For d20

Magazine fed weapons are actually slightly easier to use (but slightly harder to service) than revolvers for a novice. I would go with D20 moderns use of Personal Firearms Proficiency feat granting proficiency with almost all guns. That or have a Handgun and a Rifle proficiency.

Learning from GMs at GenCon - Respond to Roleplaying

I see some people blaming the system, instead of the player. In 1e D&D, you had almost no social mechanic in the game (except for the otherwise useless charisma score), so you "had" to role-play social encounters. One could just as easily argue the opposite, that because there is no mechanic...

Have you seen the new 'fire tornado' spell?

It is real. Volcanic ash is a cloud of glass crystals banging around in the air, under the right circumstances it can produce a lot of static electricity. Google image search "volcanic lightning" for other examples, but this is one of the more impressive ones.

[real life] Cash versus convenience... help!

A 20 minute car drive? if that isn't all interstate, you can bike that pretty easily. I used to do a 14 mile bike commute every day, took me a little over a half hour on average.

    Hit Points... Up or Down?

Add damage. I do 3e and d20 modern, so effects that change con are easier to handle when you track damage separately from hp. However, I do occasionally use W/VP house rules. In that case I can subtract damage from vitality.
