Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder: The reason the OGL was a bad idea for WOTC

Pathfinder is very much on the radar. I have friends that do not buy D&D books, that have not played D&D in 5 years. And before that, they would only play D&D a couple times a year. One of them recommended that I check out Pathfinder as an alternative to 4e because he knew I was more into...

    Concept: ToB-style Casters.

I have a ToB:Bo9S inspired magic system I posted on the wizards boards a year or two ago. I will see if I can dismember the ridiculously ineffective search ability to dig it up.

Promises, promises...what WotC said, and actually did, with 4E

I was promised d20 spectaculars and other support for d20 modern. Oops, all those resources were either shelved or secretly re-tasked to develop 4e.

The I'm not jealous of Gen Con attendees AT ALL thread

Not jealous at all. I get to be spending that time in bed, and I won't be alone.

What are people doing with their 3.x colletions?

I am keeping mine. I have the 4e PHB and will only be using that if my group converts to 4e. You mentions that you just moved to a larger apartment, so you should have plenty of space (unless of course you are also moving someone else in with you).

Please break my "gritty" rules set.

I personally prefer the W/VP system. There are several different ways of doing them. In D&D its typically quite easy to deal many tens of damage at a time at higher levels. You want to choose a W/VP system where a critical hit isn't 100% fatal under those circumstances. So I would suggest one...

    Did Bad make D&D Good?

I seem to recall back in the 90's white wolf got really "popular" because it got a lot of bad press for being associated with the goth/emo movement and a couple vampire cults/killings.

Need hyper-optimized characters for overwhelming odds

I avoided the issue of scrolls because it would depend on UMD as a spellcaster c an not automagically cast from scrolls of a higher level than he could cast.

Taking bets on the launch of DDI

I think that D&DI will be finished about 2 weeks before 5e is announced. And then it will be canceled and shut down.

Need hyper-optimized characters for overwhelming odds

You know, for the most part, I do not think that this experiment of yours is going to show what you hope. You are looking for the most optimized characters from the standpoint of facing an army of relatively frail foes. The most abusive and destructive builds do not deal will with this. Instead...

Need hyper-optimized characters for overwhelming odds

In any case a wizard with alter self and protection from arrows will generally be more effective at distracting than one with sudden jaunt even in a standard party. He can fly over the enemy force, provide them with an "easy" target, and engage them at moderate range with spells, reserve feats...

Need hyper-optimized characters for overwhelming odds

A relatively normal party could fight this group off, on the condition that they fight in a tunnel no more than 10ft wide, with a roof over their head and a corner to protect them from the massed archers. They might go through a wand of cure light wounds, but it would not be that horrible. On...

Need hyper-optimized characters for overwhelming odds

oops, I missed that part. Crusaders are in Tome of Battle: Book of 9 Swords. I think we need to know more about this group of enemies and the terrain. do they use tight formations, making them susceptible to area attacks? Do they spread out, making it easier to gang up on them in melee? Do they...

Need hyper-optimized characters for overwhelming odds

indeed, 4 crusaders would be the absolute most survivable party composition. As long as they can make melee attacks, they can heal via strikes and martial stance. This is a biggie. However, they and virtually every other character would be wiped off the floor if each of your enemies was...

What is it about the GSL that is really a deal breaker?

Corjay: Your argument that Wizards retaining the right to redefine the contract without discussion, notice or a remediation period is not a standard for any contracts. Nearly all contracts that I am aware of that allow one party to redefine the contract at will require that party to also...

What is it about the GSL that is really a deal breaker?

IANAL: Here are the poison pills... 1: WotC retains the right to terminate the GSL for any or no reason at all. 2: Product lines published under the GSL most stop being published under the OGL now and forever. 3: WotC reserves the right to change the terms of the GSL with no notice whatsoever...

    feat requirements

yes. However the same does not apply to classes, for example it is impossible to take the first level of a advanced/prestige class at the same time as a feat that is its prerequisite because the first thing you do when leveling up is apply your class.

    Fate of WotC Closed Content?

sorry, gleemax is being its usual self. IE I can't log in to search for a lot of the data. THe relevant issues are the production of D20 Spectaculars, project Javelin adventure path and the failure to deliver bullet points or any web content after 2006. Note that there were two more bullet...

    Fate of WotC Closed Content?

We (the d20 modern community) were told that every book in the D20 modern line would eventually be added to the d20 modern SRD, and told that much of it was ready and waiting for the web staff to add links, and writing staff was hard at work in getting the rest ready. We later found out that...
