    Discussion on +x magic items

Gee, I wonder where the saint's actual, much more magical sword would be...out in the world, being used to fight evil, perhaps? Also, if he's a 10th level fighter, he should have traded up to something better (or had the saint's blade further prayed over) two or three levels ago. Wow, this is...

    Are demons/devils/dragons too complex?

And Empowered Maximized Fireballs or somesuch. I agree. There's not a lot of point making it SO MUCH FIRE to hurt them that he might as well be immune.

    Discussion on +x magic items

Where do all you people hide, and why haven't you found a system that's a better match for your tastes than D&D?

    D&D 4E Flying in 4e

Maybe YOU do, I start at level 3 with Levitate.

D&D 3.x 3e beginnings (why first impressions are not always the right ones)

Then, uh, play something else? Like, uh, WFRP, GURPS Yrth...or Darklands?

Unintended(?) Consequence of No More X-Mas Tree?

That won't stop people. Doesn't stop people from running low-magic D&D games, won't stop people from playing badly designed house-rules or even badly designed original games. They'll either find the problems with the rules benefits or ignore the problems. What they won't do is actually...

D&D 4E Do the races in 4e remind you of Dragonlance?

I'm sorry, are those the liver or the gizzard? Um, I've only read a few (The Phoenix on the Sword, The Scarlet Citadel, The Tower of the Elephant, Black Colossus, The Slithering Shadow/Xuthal of the Dusk) of the original stories (thanks wikisource), and the two movies, but none of them...

Will "any" class be hindered by armor then? ..and elimination of CON?

Uh, you mean the Ranger's spells went from being arcane (IIRC, and divine, two spell lists) to just being divine?

Unintended(?) Consequence of No More X-Mas Tree?

On rpg.net, my handle AmesJainchill. I was not impressed with you in that thread and this threads point debate simply further reinforces that impression. I would only disagree that D&D supports sword and sorcery fantasy--I say it supports it's own unique subgenre of fantasy.

Ah, yes. My opinion of you is confirmed.

Unintended(?) Consequence of No More X-Mas Tree?

I'm glad that 4e will perhaps let some people get it into their heads that they need to find a system that works for them and not fold spindle and mutilate D&D. So, yes "drive away" people that would be better served with other systems. It doesn't exist. It never existed. D&D has not, is...

Unintended(?) Consequence of No More X-Mas Tree?

You can still do that. You've always been able to do that. You'll just have to use a different game, a game made from it's outset, for what you want. Like you should have been doing all along. Which is one of my new favorite things about 4e.

Lightning Panther Strike is a much better name than Leaping Power Slash.

Why isn't every 9th level wizard rich?

Deleting the line about iron as a trade good vs. creating a new line of text in a spell. Hmmmm. Which would be simpler?

    . . . while you're at it. . . Fix heavy armor!

I sincerely doubt they hit themselves with blunt instruments.

Why isn't every 9th level wizard rich?

Bingo! You could make lots of cheap armor, but armies get by with what they're doing already. It's not like it wears out. Adventurers want magic armor ASAP, and saving several hundred gold pieces when you'll drop 1000 or more for the magic part...isn't a very big market. Now, making lots of...

    Cursed Items

You can do that already--you just have to be...hmmm. What's the best word? Railroading power-tripping DM? Yeah, that's a lot more polite than what I first thought. If I'm not going to have many magic items in the first place, I'd rather ditch items I don't want at all. Blackrazor (from...

WotC: Let's Improve the Weapon List, Shall We?

That's why you have class levels and magic weapons and massive strength. Also, that's why it's D&D. Edit: Without class levels, magic weapons, massive strength, neither a polearm or a sword will hurt a Wyvern very much, in either GURPS or D&D. In GURPS you might want to get a giant to throw...

WotC: Let's Improve the Weapon List, Shall We?

Yes, you are right. But in D&D, you are very unlikely to be on a battlefield. You are in personal combat with a small number of allies and (usually) a small number of enemies. At least in GURPS 4e, swords are better than other one handed weapons. Other one-handed weapons have heavy heads or...

What's the rationale behind non-crittable monsters again?

Of course rocks have vulnerable spots. I had this idea for a house rule where, it's just you need special techniques to notice and take advantage of them, and it's harder to do so than to deflate a hag's oh so vulnerable lung. Same for elementals and plants and whatnot. So you can SA them, you...
