    How to describe a race?

On some campaign worlds, half-elves and half-orcs are sterile, aren't they? But, seriously, if we're going to start playing the if-so-and-so-can-breed-with-so-and-so game, we'd have to conclude that dragons (the filthy buggers) prove that all living, corporeal creatures are one species...

    No Druid in PHB?

Yeah, that's very much the kind of thing I've been thinking about. I'd love to see "natural" as a distinct power source from "divine", and I would kill for a good shapeshifting-focused class (which I would then promptly rework as an arcane class that turns into monstrous shapes instead of...

    D&D 4E 4E: Darkvision and Low-light vision

I think there are literally about two creature types that don't get darkvision or low light vision by default. One of them is Humanoid. The other one is Ooze, which gets freaking blindsight, anyway. Plants have low-light vision. It's really pretty absurd.

    Heroic Cthulhu rules are up

Ah, cool! I listened to that Innsmouth adventure (mother of Christ, that was like an eight-hour gaming session!), and the whole time I was really wishing I could see your house rules. It's clearly a very different kind of Cthulhu you guys are playing, but it's obviously a lot of fun...

    POLL: Furry Races

I had to choose "other", because my position on the matter is full of ifs and excepts. For the most part, I'm kind of against "animal people" because they're just kinda dumb and bland (as are elves and dwarves, really). But, at the same time, I've got to confess a weakness for lizardfolk. I...

    Elemental Planes Killed

We're talking about a paradigm change regarding which features of the Elemental Planes get spotlighted and fleshed out, not a new font and some layout changes. Obviously, making a bigger deal out of the survivable parts of the Elemental Planes would mean the introduction of new information, not...

    Elemental Planes Killed

I'd say there'd likely be a major change in the presentation of the Elemental Planes, in this case, and much more information given about the various habitable regions. You can quite reasonably say that not a "real" change, but I expect that would change a lot of DMs' perceptions of the...

    Elemental Planes Killed

I think the issue might be about the frequency of such habitable anomalies in an elemental plane. I've only got hazy recollections of the 1e Manual of the Planes to go by, here, but weren't they incredibly rare and isolated? And, for that matter, not granted all that much detail? I expect the...

Alright WotC, fess up...who came up with "Emerald Frost"?

Not at all. At least opposition is a thematic connection. But I think it's easy to find a logical connection as well: A Wizard might be capable with both fire and ice spells because he's skilled at manipulating temperature. For that matter, I could happily put fire and lightning spells in the...

    How to describe a race?

Do mules demonstrate that horses and donkeys are not distinct species? Hell, Star Trek is goofy enough to have humans and various aliens makin' babies all the time, but I don't think anybody's going to say that Klingons are just another race of human.

D&D 4E Poll: Turning Undead in 4E...how should it work?

Oh, man, I wish. Spell-casting priests always seemed like a really weird thing to me. I'd really love to see a completely different mechanic used for Clerical miracle-working. However, if they're gonna cast spells (and they almost definitely will), Turn Undead ought to be just another spell...

    Wizard Traditions...What would be ideal?

Aw, interesting. I didn't know about that feature of Saga Edition, and that seems like a pretty logical thing to connect to 4e's Wizard traditions. I suspect they won't have any sort of prerequisites, but this comparison seems like a good argument for the possibility that they'll be talent...

    No Druid in PHB?

I'd definitely be happiest to see the Druid subsumed by the Cleric in terms of both mechanics and flavor. However, I think it's most likely that we'll get a new Druid (along with the Bard and Gnomes, and maybe that Mageblade class) in PH2. If that's the case, I hope they actually go out of...

    Elemental Planes Killed

Oh, frigging Christ, absolutely. I'm having as much fun speculating on what WotC is gonna do with the Elemental Planes as anybody, but there's basically no chance I'm gonna use them no matter what. The classical four elments--and the Chinese and Wicca five element options, too--are completely...

    Elemental Planes Killed

So maybe the thing to do would be to add sort of "antechamber" demiplanes to all the Elemental Planes, places where they border--or even overlap with--the Prime Material, and which are relatively survivable for non-elemental mortals. So you can have your City-of-Brass-esque fire kingdom of...

Familiars and Animal Companions. Should they stay?

I've always really hated being forced by class features to have some kind of pet. That sort of thing absolutely oughta be shoved into talent trees. Also, it'd be nice if there were some kind of non-animal options for familiars, along the lines of the Hexblade's "Dark Servant" variant ability...

    WotC Blogs II

I hope not. I've always hated the conception of the law/chaos axis as describing methodolgy rather than merely values and outlook. But, hell, I don't use alignments anyway, so why should I complain?

WotC, why don't you just admit it already?

I wish they'd start D&D all over again from scratch.

    Elemental Planes Killed

I'm guessing they're going to end the whole "infinite expanse of pure [element]" bit. So, instead of the the Plane of Earth being a whole universe of dirt and rocks with a few random pockets of other elements--a world only a xorn could love--it might be a titanic cave system. I'd kinda gotten...

    Warlock confirmed in PH1...

Which is actually kind of weird, when you think about it. I mean, we're so used to Wizards that can basically do anything, depending on what they memorize each morning. But, I guess less Vancian spellcasting means less flexibility, in that sense...
