I need a great role playing game that is played in short bursts.

Ghostbusters RPG from West End Games matches this description almost exactly. Seriously. Unfortunately, it's probably out of print, but not impossible to find.

If we were contacted by aliens tomorrow...

The Culture. Though we'd probably never know they were here until one of them went on a drunken bender and had to be forcibly beamed up by his friends.

    Can't Renew my DDI SUB

I'll say it again. I'll be very disappointed if the online tools become unavailable one day and WoTC doesn't make them available in some form for legal offline use. I find the tools very useful and fun to use, warts and all.

    Can't Renew my DDI SUB

I recently attempted to update my credit card to allow my subscription to auto renew and had repeated error messages relating to the site itself. I gave up and tried a week later at home (I was previously at work!) and it worked first try no problem. Went ahead and renewed manually and that...

    D&D 4E Coolest or fun D&D4ed powers

One of my personal favorites, the 16th level Endurance skill power, Diehard. "Though blood pours from a dozen wounds, you refuse to lie down and die." Basically, it makes it so that when you go below 0 hp, you don't fall unconscious, but are just dazed. I love imagining the character who...

What Do Treants, Gelatinous Cubes, Mimics, and Displacer Beasts Have In Common?

Okay, that could be, but usually I've just heard those called "repaints." Maybe a difference without a distinction. I don't recognize any of those figures as being from previous sets but I could be mistaken; I certainly don't recognize all of them on sight. Funny how you can recognize others...

What Do Treants, Gelatinous Cubes, Mimics, and Displacer Beasts Have In Common?

Yeah, I'm pretty much over buying new random minis. I pretty much only buy new minis if they're singles (like the excellent Tiamat in the new line) or if they're sold aftermarket individually.

What Do Treants, Gelatinous Cubes, Mimics, and Displacer Beasts Have In Common?

The invisible ones are actually painted with Acme Brand Transparent Paint as used on by TV's Wile E. Coyote.

What Do Treants, Gelatinous Cubes, Mimics, and Displacer Beasts Have In Common?

I'm going to guess that was a typo but if I'm wrong that's the first time I can recall seeing any publicity for a miniature release that states they were actually repainted/touched up. Usually these days everyone just publishes CG renders of the minis so what you actually see are "virtual"...

What Do Treants, Gelatinous Cubes, Mimics, and Displacer Beasts Have In Common?

Yes, they come PREpainted. Though I haven't been very impressed with the paint quality of any of the previous sets yet. They don't rise to the quality of the old D&D miniatures (which varied) or that of the Pathfinder line, IMO. Not sure if these photos are CG renders or actual painted...

How Do Mobile Devices Affect Your Game?

We do have players who get distracted by smartphones during our games, but it's not a big enough deal to make a big deal out of. A simple "Hey buddy, wake up, it's your turn," is enough. What's worse is I've played with any number of people who were not distracted by tech but still looked like...

Sword Coast Legends Developer n-Space Closes Down After 21 Years

For myself, being 5e wasn't as important to me as the robust multiplayer and customizability. But OTOH, I always go on and on about how much I dislike 3e, and somehow NWN is my favorite CRPG despite that. Maybe having the fiddly math done behind the scenes made it more appealing to me. At any...

    D&D 4E Who's still playing 4E

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but the last time I used HeroLab for 4e, it required that you have a DDI account so that you can download and install the actual data from WoTC. Also IIRC, you only needed to use the account one time or whenever you needed to refresh/update the data. But...

13TH AGE Battle Scenes: A Sneak Preview Of The Upcoming Book Of Set Piece Battles

I know it would add considerably to the production costs and final price, but would you consider for future releases having battlemaps scaled to 1" = 5' ? Not sure how many people are as big on minis and tactical positioning as my group is, and how many people go theater of the mind, but...

13TH AGE Battle Scenes: A Sneak Preview Of The Upcoming Book Of Set Piece Battles

Yeah, it might seem a bit pricey but I didn't blink too much. You do get a 192 page book, a 90 page color map folio, and the pdfs for your $40. I'm kind of excited about this so I ordered. I don't need the stories so much, though I do sometimes like to skim them, but I do like to have lots of...

Dark Tower: The Original Fantasy Troop Simulator

Still got the D&D Labyrinth game, still play it. I remember Dark Tower from back in the day but never actually played it. Now I'm intrigued ...

Wizards copyright release of un-used creatures

They gave away Rust Monsters? That's interesting. Not sure I know what I'm talking about but I thought that was one of the monsters that GGG invented based off the little plastic figurines he found. So TSR/WoTC owns the concept of a Rust Monster then? Do they own the depiction of one since...

    D&D 4E 4E WotC Tools dead?

Just want to give props to the MM3 on a card - I've gotten even LAZIER in my DMing lately and I've run a few encounters with monsters made right off that card - just a few lines of text written down based off the stat guidelines the card provides. It's my new favorite thing for drop of a hat...

WotC / Digital River Not Accepting Renewals of Existing Subscriptions to DDI

Well, as for me, just last October was the FIRST TIME EVER that I've had auto-renew work properly for me. It always threw some sort of error at me telling me that when it came time to renew my account, it couldn't charge my card. I always had to remove my old card information and enter it...

    D&D 4E 4E WotC Tools dead?

Yes, at least the last time I used Hero Lab for 4e, it did require pulling the data from DDI, so you needed an active subscription, at least for the initial setup. I haven't used it for a while so I don't know how or if that might have changed.
