DMs who dislike using minis during combat?

What little time is wasted by setting up minis on a battlemap is made up by not losing time having to describe in inane detail who is where and doing what every round.

Newbie adventure; teaching them the essentials

The Burning Plague is a good adventure, but it's way to lethal for very new players. I had four level 1 players nearly get wiped out because of poor roles in the very first enounter against 5 1HP kobolds!

Attack types with different ranges in full attack

When you have TWF, doesn't that basically eliminate the true "off-hand?" You could have a longsword in your right hand, and a short sword in the other, and declare that your shortsword is your primary weapon, getting your full str bonus and your primary attacks?

SR: You don't have to lower it after all?

Yes, he does. If you're trying to heal someone in combat, you have to make a melee touch attack (vs AC 10 since the person you're healing isn't trying to get out of the way).

    The expert's class skills

The entries in UA seem to indicate that all those skills, Profession Craft Perform and Knowledge, are not chosen seperatly. Once you chose Knowledge, for example, you can select each skill as a class skill.

    Lesser Rod of Quickening

Generally speaking, a Quickened spell is a whole lot better than any other metamagic feat spell short of Twin spell. With a quickened version of a spell, you can potentially hit a target with a spell twice in the same round.

    PBEM RPGs -- Questions

You have to have everyone there with you in a face to face game too. It's easier to line up people for an online chatroom game. The pace isn't to great in a chatroom game either, I have figured it to be something like 4-5 times slower than a face to face game. But at least I don't have to...

Where to go with a bard?

Swashbuckler doesn't have perform as a class skill though.

    Disappointed with Minis

The problem with buying mini's by the singles is that if you buy more than half a dozen like that, it'd be so much cheeper to buy pewter minis and have someone else assemble and paint them. I know quite a number of people who do that, and in the end, I would resort to doing that then buying...

SR: You don't have to lower it after all?

Page 298 of the DMG says, "A creature can voluntarily lower its spell resistance. Doing so is a standard action that does not provoke an attack of opportunity." So, a creature with SR must make the special effort to lower it for spells it wants to affect it.

Adamantine Tower Shield + Cleric = Gnarly, dude

I think that "give up your attacks" just means "You can't attack"... you could still take a full round action and still use the tower shield for cover.

[UA] Still can't figure out Gestalt

Correct me if I'm wrong, but you still can't to take the same class twice. You couldn't be a monk/fight & monk/rogue, because you already have levels of monk.

Can You Sneak Attack With A Spell Cast While Flanking?

That's so not true. Any spell that requires an attack roll can be a sneak attack.

OFFICAL ERRATA: Hit points *DO NOT* change in polymorph

To me that clearly means that you keep the same HPs rolled from hit dice (they don't lower if you become an animal or raise if you become a dragon or whatever) but your CON score still adds to your hit points! If the errata had meant that it does not apply, then it would have SAID it does not...

    Moment ruiners

In a game I am playing in, my character was having a pretty open and heartfelt discussion conversation with two of the other players, who were somewhat of my characters apprentices. My character was trying to comfort the young rogue in the party who had just killed someone for the first time...

Where to go with a bard?

There's a serious lack of bard stuff out there. Yeah, you can take a load of prestige classes, but very very few actually let you continue growing in bard areas, forceing you to forget about bardic knowledge and performing.

    Romance in Roleplaying

Right now, I am playing in an online game. My character has fallen in love with someone he met in an inn, and my bard has since taken Leadership to keep this guy around with him. It's actually been a lot of fun to role play out a romance.
