    Pathfinder 2E Pathfinder 2E's reception?

WotC have a reason for not producing boatloads of player character rules crunch; they have stated they want to keep the game accessible to new players and that the PHB is the only book you need. So, not for 'some reason' but rather a very specific reason. Plus, it avoids splat bloat edition...

Critical Role The New D&D Book Is 'The Explorer's Guide to [Critical Role's] Wildemount!' By Matt Mercer

I checked the website just yesterday. The book is still there under fifth edition. Edit: That's weird, I just checked again and the book is gone from the website. Maybe it is out of print but there are still new copies to be had from Amazon. I'm wondering if Matt Mercer has pulled the Tal Dorei...

Critical Role The New D&D Book Is 'The Explorer's Guide to [Critical Role's] Wildemount!' By Matt Mercer

The Tal Dorei campaign setting is still in print and will likely get a massive boost from the Wildemount book. I love the argument that publishing the Wildemount book does nothing to further the game. Really? It will attract massive attention from CR fans, be a best seller, and may encourage...

Critical Role The New D&D Book Is 'The Explorer's Guide to [Critical Role's] Wildemount!' By Matt Mercer

This is what the Marauder reminded me of when I first heard of it. The Primary Witchlight Marauder stays on the surface of the planet though and eats everything on the surface. However, there is also the Space Witchlight Marauder which I think wins the prize for the largest D&D monster ever...

Critical Role The New D&D Book Is 'The Explorer's Guide to [Critical Role's] Wildemount!' By Matt Mercer

Are the Forgotten Realms novels available in a digital format? Spelljammer and Planescape are the most radically different official published settings. They did and would provide something quite different to the 'D&D pablum'. At their core the intent behind these two settings was to be able to...

Critical Role The New D&D Book Is 'The Explorer's Guide to [Critical Role's] Wildemount!' By Matt Mercer

Well, virtually all of those Forgotten Realms novels are now out of print unless they are Dragonlance or written by R.A. Salvatore. So, yep they don't count as easily accessible sources of lore. There are some good FR wikis though and plenty of FR info generally online.

D&D General On gatekeeping and the 'live-streaming edition wars'

Low influx of basic content? You are right but then this is intentional. WotC are striving - and succeeding - at avoiding rapid rules bloat which killed 3.x and harmed 4e. So, either you go 3pp, create your own basic content or admit that 5e is not for you. Due to all the recent UA sub-classes...

Critical Role Here's The Official Wildemount Announcement!

Mercer said this book has been in development for one and a half years; it's probably a coincidence that it's coming out when the Witcher series is the hot new thing. Mind you, Mercer is a Witcher fan and I'm sure there is some Witcher influence in the tone of certain aspects of Wildemount.

Critical Role Here's The Official Wildemount Announcement!

Regarding the Planescape books mentioned above, I bought most of them off DMsGuild in either PoD or PDF and there's very little there that needs converting. You can even buy a conversion of the Planescape monsters on DMsGuild. You want to play Planescape in 5e? There's very little stopping you...

Critical Role Here's The Official Wildemount Announcement!

In 3e, Ravenloft and Dragonlance were licenced out to 3pp and had some pretty decent support for a couple of years. The Forgotten Realms had the majority of the official support while other settings got the odd small piece in a sourcebook (Sigil in the Planar Handbook) or Dragon magazine...

Critical Role Here's The Official Wildemount Announcement!

Sweet bejus! There's no such thing as too much cross promotion! Do you like D&D? Do you want the game to continue to be healthy, to grow, to continue into the future? Then you need to accept the realities that come with that.

Critical Role The New D&D Book Is 'The Explorer's Guide to [Critical Role's] Wildemount!' By Matt Mercer

Yes, and I suspect the Wildemount book is not one of the 3 'main' WotC releases. Plus, the WotC books have a 3 month publicity lead up; with the Wildemount book we only have just over 2 months.

Critical Role Here's The Cover Of The Explorer's Guide to Wildemount; Plus It's #15 In Amazon Bestsellers!

I've been a tabletop roleplayed for over 30 years now and a D&D player since '91. As much as I enjoy some of the old settings (Al-Qadim, Ravenloft) I think it is only right and proper that WotC focuses on what attracts the current generation of new players. Kudos to WotC to being up to date and...

    Pathfinder 2E Rate Pathfinder 2E

The inability to hold a civil debate does not reflect well on those who resort to insults. This really is a terrible flaw.

    D&D 3.x Why 3.5 Worked

This is all subjective and always will be. For you, the release schedule for 5e is too slow/inadequate. For me it's perfect and is working a treat for WotC too. There will never be agreement here. PF2E should meet your needs for new content but is almost guaranteed to run into the 'Death by...

    D&D 3.x Why 3.5 Worked

Whoops, that was an incomplete post. What I was going to say was that level 11 is a breakpoint - for me - in 3.5. You must have psychic powers because you guessed where my post was supposed to go!

    D&D 3.x Why 3.5 Worked

3.0 doesn't try to be a tight ruleset. It also allowed the hilariously broken Haste spell which - as written - allows casting two spells in one round because the designers did not understand their own ruleset.

    D&D 3.x Why 3.5 Worked

Level 11 is I don't have my 3.5 books anymore but I distinctly recall this. The rules for modifying monsters included all this stuff - how many skill points to add; how many feats they should have etc. It was detailed in the books. That was the expectation. And it was damned hard work. Yes...

    D&D 3.x Why 3.5 Worked

I'm not doubting your experience. However, my experience was quite different and I have seen many views expressed over the years that are more similar to my experience than yours.
