    D&D 5E (2014) 5th Edition Intelligence

I think it's more that Intelligence requires more from the DM than other stats. Constitution is automatically important because it sets the HP. Dex is automatically important because it affects Initiative, AC and several frequently used skills. Wisdom is important mostly because Perception...

D&D 5E (2014) Adding cantrips to paladin and ranger.

I did that with a paladin. Took Light and Fire Bolt, going for the Paladin-Who-Shines-And-Throws-Bolts-Of-Divine-Fire theme. Grabbed Shield as the spell, a good life-saver. Felt nice. That's the way to get cantrips as a Paladin/Ranger, imo. I don't think giving them Thaumaturgy/Druidcraft is...

    D&D 5E (2014) A half-elven question for the lore masters

I'd give the character darker skin, but not necessarily black (depending on the complexion of the other parent). Beyond that, I'd say you could have them look as elven or human as you like. Some half-elves look more elvish than others. Some look more like humans.

    D&D 5E (2014) 5th Edition Intelligence

In answer to OP's question: Yes, I think Intelligence is too weak compared to the other stats. It doesn't suck, but it's nowhere near as important for everyone as Dex, Con or Wis, for instance. Regarding role-playing ... I've never understood the whole "Your character has too low intelligence...

    D&D 5E (2014) Everyone has Darkvision - too generous?

I don't mind that vision was simplified, but I do mind that the majority of the races have darkvision, and only (I think) humans, halflings and dragonborn lack it. Instead of being an extra perk for some races, not having darkvision is now a handicap, because suddenly someone needs to carry a...

D&D 5E (2014) Do Classes Have Concrete Meaning In Your Game?

In our games, classes are more like generic stereotypes. If someone says their a Fighter, it's going to be understood that they are just that. But they could as well have said "soldier" or any synonym. Someone well-versed in the arcane arts would know the differences between a Wizard, Sorcerer...

D&D 5E (2014) Can you transform a magical weapon when you summon it as a bonded pact weapon?

I don't think that's what's intended. It would be fairly unbalanced. For instance, you'd suddenly be able to use a magical weapon intended to be a Greatsword as a rapier or shortsword, meaning that you could seriously boost your dual-wielding potential. Or if you're a rogue with a touch of...

D&D 5E (2014) Comprehend Languages and "literal" meaning

Tongues also lacks the "literal meaning" part of the description, which leads me to believe that that part must be important. Why else would it be in the description of one translation spell but not the other?

D&D 5E (2014) 5e's new gender policy - is it attracting new players?

Generally those of us who belong to minorities tend to be happy to have anything relevant. Not every character has to be homosexual/transgender/bisexual/anything-else-in-the-minority. That would be silly. If WotC actually went with the suggestions and introduced a character with a same-sex...

Unearthed Arcana Light, Dark, Underdark - November's Unearthed Arcana

How? Why? Martial characters have very limited reach, and they have to spend their bonus action every roundto do this. That means they cannot function as effective in an offensive manner. Yes, that's the entire intent of it? It's great for a fighter that wants to be a real defender. It's not...

Unearthed Arcana Light, Dark, Underdark - November's Unearthed Arcana

My group had the same "issues" in 4e. Our group powergames quite a lot and we play quite strategically, so we cut through "hard" encounters like they were nothing. Just gotta design tougher encounters if that's the case, and if that is a problem. Have stronger enemies. Have more enemies. Have...

Unearthed Arcana Light, Dark, Underdark - November's Unearthed Arcana

The concept worked wonders in 4e. I don't really see the issue. Before now, there really was very little a tank could do to leverage their high AC and HP and force the attention away from squishies. No marks, just 1 AoO. As mentioned elsewhere, a group of enemies could just casually run by the...

Unearthed Arcana Light, Dark, Underdark - November's Unearthed Arcana

The pact isn't really a "balancing factor", though, because it's 100% dependent on the DM. Some DM's and Warlock players want to have interesting plot hooks, side-quests or just thematic backgrounds. Others don't really want to touch it, and only want the mechanics. Which is fine to me. You can...

D&D 5E (2014) 5e's new gender policy - is it attracting new players?

I think the word "spouse" would generally be bad, unless they intentionally want the spouse's gender kept hidden in-game. As in, perhaps the Prince escaped from his inheritance and married another man, and this enraged his father and now he doesn't really want it brought up. Then, he could...

    D&D 5E (2014) Access to Races in a Campaign

Totally agree with you. What's common, uncommon or non-exist should be listed on a per setting basis. So in Forgotten Realms, Tieflings might be uncommon while Elves are common, but in another place the opposite might be true. Or, hell. In a Forgotten Realms Underdark campaign, Drow, Dwarves and...

D&D 5E (2014) Comprehend Languages and "literal" meaning

I still think Comprehend Languages should have those kinds of barriers, because of the difference between it and Tongues. Tongues simply specifies that you understand any language that you hear. It doesn't bother with the whole "literal meaning". Why would Comprehend Languages have that extra...

D&D 5E (2014) Which feat would you take

Really, they're all good choices. It totally depends on which direction you want to take your character. Attack earlier, hit harder, be more durable, or have versatility? They're all good, solid options. If you think tankiness sounds more fun, go for it! Although, depending on how long your...

D&D 5E (2014) Comprehend Languages and "literal" meaning

I think it translates the text as close to literally as possible, without understanding of any cultural references or connotations. I'd rule that the characters wouldn't understand complex metaphors or idioms either. So if a text says: "I am feeling under the weather", the character would read...

    D&D 5E (2014) Access to Races in a Campaign

I voted "no" because I interpreted the question as referring to what is usually done. I really wouldn't want to ban any race. If, in a campaign I've designed, a certain race would be extremely difficult to manage, I might ban it. For thematic reasons, not mechanical. But I don't think I'd...

    D&D 5E (2014) Why do you multiclass?

I tend to do it for RP reasons. My current character was supposed to be a Warlock who was a demon hunter and an expert at arcane lore. So I really had to give him 3 levels of Warlock to emphasise the Lore-part of his character.
