Scales of War: Bordrin's Watch ?s

As written Tusk is really tough to deal with. However his "tactics" blurb has him rushing to the top of the chamber, which is not tactically wise usually. If you think he will be too tough as written have him adhere to those tactics should help. If the fight bogs down think about ending the...

Can you get too much healing?

CappnZapp how do you and your group feel about abstracting the easy encounters rather than playing them out? I'm thinking that you could just assume that so many surges and Healing powers would be spent in the easy encounters and deduct that from the surge totals and Healing powers available and...

Hit or Miss: Odd Wording on Avenger Powers

My guess is thats because other powers sometimes kick in on a hit, others on a miss, they said on a hit or miss to avoid any doubt for when the Avengers kicks in.

    Defeating my powergamer Glave master

Instead of monsters to deal with the Glave master how about alchemical item to neutralize or inpair him. Jolt flask (AV pg 28) dazes which prevents immediate or opportunity actions. Blinding bomb (AV pg 26) has the target treating all nonadjacent creatures as having concealment. For...

Paladin Hospitaler vs Beholder Death Tyrant

Nor should you expect it to as the rule explicitely states that Aura are PASSIVE effects. Yes all of these examples you sight explicitely call the attacks extra attacks, whereas Aura never mentions attack, but refers to it as a passive and continuous effect.

Paladin Hospitaler vs Beholder Death Tyrant

The Aura is the Aura, it is passive. Weither it inflicts autodamage or use a basic attack or inflicts a condition it is all passive when occuring as a result of an Aura. If it was otherwise WOTC would not have started off the very first sentence with an Aura is a passive ability..... When an...

Paladin Hospitaler vs Beholder Death Tyrant

But its just not so. It is a passive effect as stated on Pg 6 of the MM. yes it uses the eyestalks as a free action, not as a standard action. That does not alter the aura being a passive effect. Weither it is auto damage, or a basic attack, when it is triggered by the aura it is passive.

Paladin Hospitaler vs Beholder Death Tyrant

The Aura involves an attack roll but that does not make it an attack. Aura are passive effects. Attacks are active effects.

Paladin Hospitaler vs Beholder Death Tyrant

The MM discribes Aura as passive abilities and effects. Just because an "attack roll" is being made it does not mean an attack has occured which is the case with the Beholder aura. Thus the Hospitlars power would not be triggered by the Aura.

Paladin Hospitaler vs Beholder Death Tyrant

The Aura for the Eye Tyrant happens to use the eye stalks which happen to be attacks. The Mad Wraith and other Aura's do flat damage or effects which are clearly not attacks. The key is the action in question is the Aura not how the Aura makes it self felt. Yes it is hair splitting but it would...

Paladin Hospitaler vs Beholder Death Tyrant

I just checked the Eye Tyrant out on the Compendium and the free attack is from an Aura. I don't think the Hospitlar free healing would apply as the Aura is allowing the free random eye stalk attack at start of each characters turn if they are within the Aura, i.e. the Beholder is granted the...

Paladin Hospitaler vs Beholder Death Tyrant

If it comes up again I would just apply the healing just once per turn or not at all to the Beholders free attacks at the beginning of each characters turn. I would apply it normally to the attacks the Beholder makes on its own turn.

    Defeating my powergamer Glave master

If I recall correctly you have 6 characters playing in your group. WOTC adventures are usually designed for 5 characters. Are you upping the monsters to compensate? If not I would try adding or reinforcing the Controller, or Artillery monsters to bring the monsters to par for a party of 6. Good...

    Weapon Focus & Implements

That would be fair as none of the Weapon focus feats have prereqs. I can think of no reason the "Dark Fury etc." feats should when the Weapons focus feats don't.

    Weapon Focus & Implements

I think WOTC views the different magic damage types i.e. fire, cold, necrotic etc as being analogis to weapons groups. Thus we have the different feats that add damage to the different magic damages and the weapon focus feats that add damage to a weapon type groups.

    Easy questions I think

Great question. D&D Q&A archive answered this one on 11/10/08. You add the vulnerablity and then apply the insubstantial. Thus in your example the damage would be 7.

    Dragon's Revenge

I would say yes as long as that range attack was against AC. I see nothing that even hints that it is limited to melee AC attacks only. Hope that helps.

    NPCs who give out gold.

its split, and watch out for the needle drake swarm encounter. The needledrakes are way over powered to be a 2nd level monster, with there aura, minor knock prone power and extra damage to prone targets plus they take half damage from most attacks.

    Barbarian: Rampage and Swift Charge

You would get both but you would make the Rampage attack from the hex where the triggering critical was scored and then make your rageblood free charge.
