Licensees not going to 4e because of poor sales?

    1) Publicly traded companies can't claim things that aren't true, or rather they can, but they're liable to have hefty fines and/or jail time as a result. 2) You're making statements without any substantiation, other people have posted examples, evidence and support for their statements, to...

Licensees not going to 4e because of poor sales?

Some basic research would give you good estimates on those numbers. And, as a clue, you don't reprint twice on books that haven't sold. So, you know what the publishing industry thinks of it..ohh wait, evidently not, given it's regarded as a very good indicator of performance in the industry.

Licensees not going to 4e because of poor sales?

That's Green Ronin, and afaik sales figures for 4e have nothing at all to do with why Green Ronin aren't supporting 4e. I'm sure that system issues aside, most of those publishers who have expressed a negative would love to have the freedom of the OGL to support 4e in the hope that lighting...

Something I've Never Seen in an RPG System

Heroquest, Riddle of Steel..and a good half-dozen you could get from IPR with some digging around. You're dismissing them without, evidently, knowing what the games are.

Something I've Never Seen in an RPG System

Actually a lot of games have extended skill tests, it's far from uncommon.

Something I've Never Seen in an RPG System

I can't think off the top of my head of anything with that exact visualisation, but the essence of it has been done in a number of games. You could look at Certament from Ars Magica or an arcane-inspired Duel of Wits from Burning Wheel - both off the top of my head and I'm sure there are a lot...

Can anyone write Cthulhu Mythos material?

Yes...and no. Some Mythos material is in the public domain (almost everything by Lovecraft is in, albeit this has never seen a legal challenge to confirm this and there is some controversy over it relating to Derleth). Some is assuredly in the public domain in some countries and less clear in...

    Let's Spitball a Hypothetical Situation---WOTC Discontinues D&D--What Happens?

Don't worry, Wizards just had (and are continuing to have) great sales figures with the release of the core rules and their supplements since then. Anyone saying otherwise is just projecting their wishes.

    Death at WotC

Which is a long way from saying that it isn't going to happen at all, which your first snide little post said. Not knowing the people involved doesn't stop it being in poor taste. Frankly I don't care what your personal reactions are. Except you saw fit to post them to a thread and try to...

    Death at WotC

That is not only baseless speculation but is in incredibly poor taste.

Anyone else excited for Dungeon Delve?

Given your stance on 4e, I am entirely unsurprised to see you continue that stance onto future products. I'm hoping for something akin to Mythic Places for Ars Magica, with different story hooks and legends/history for each place that can be used/adapted or inspiring. Having pre-set one-shots...

    Tabletop Game Night...Online?

Maptool FantasyGrounds BattleGrounds There are a huge plethora of virtual tabletops out there, and that 'nut' has been cracked years ago. I run one face to face campaign and one online campaign, and the online campaign lets me take full advantage of the net and my design skills (flash...

Necromancer Games NOT going with current GSL.

Given he announced it, and has repeatedly confirmed it, I think he knows. http://www.montecook.com/cgi-bin/page.cgi?mc_los_157 He's done about 4 rpg books in the last two or so years but is pretty much commited to his work on novels, short stories and non-fiction books for mainstream...

The fate of the Advanced Player's Guide

That's absolutely great of him, particularly given how often a manuscript will get buried rather than let it be published by another company. Also great news, I was very much looking forward to this so I hope it sees the light of day.

Necromancer Games NOT going with current GSL.

You got the part where I cited facts and figures and his response was to say he didn't believe them, ergo calling me a liar, right? The last sentence, at which point I was done with discussing things with him, was the one I'll grant you could have been condescending. But he's ignoring numerous...

Necromancer Games NOT going with current GSL.

Which, you know, would miss the part where I said I was using it as an example. If you think it's isolated, however, then you don't know the industry as far as bricks and mortar retail stores go. Err, no, that's not why TSR crashed. If you're going to be making judgements about a subject it...

Necromancer Games NOT going with current GSL.

Well firstly you're free to call me and him a liar all you like. You're wrong but you're free to do so. Secondly you're assuming that customers would buy those books (and you know Monte doesn't publish anymore, right?) When TSR crashed, rpg sales went down. A lot. While some people that bought...

Necromancer Games NOT going with current GSL.

If you don't think that D&D is regarded as being intrinsic to the industry (especially in terms of profits for distributors and stores) then I really don't know what else to add save this: The trailer for futurama's next movie doesn't say 'we're playing a roleplaying game', it says 'we're...

Necromancer Games NOT going with current GSL.

Boring Industry economics ahead: I'm going to use the figures cited by a friend of mine who owns a game store. RPGs+D&D miniatures (which if D&D goes down would have an uncertain future) make up about 50% of his yearly sales. D&D books make up 40% of that overall 50% (with miniatures...

Necromancer Games NOT going with current GSL.

The odd thing for me is I like a lot of the changes, especially those you've hilighted in the part I snipped, I just find that 3.X is not a game I want to be running anymore, wheras I love 4e. On the other hand I have a lot of games I don't run anymore but still pick things up for (such as paizo...
