D&D 5E (2024) Does anyone else think that 1D&D will create a significant divide in the community?

I think I'll see dialogues like this: "Let's play D&D fifth edition?" "Sure! Can I use One D&D rules?" "No, just 5e." Or posts like this: "LFG 5e to play Dungeon of the Mad Mage. Tuesdays 8-10PM. Updated rules from D&D One only". Call it different editions or not, the word doesn't matter...

D&D 5E (2024) Mind Style versus Grid Style: can core support both?

Just include both, the number for grid and the name for mind. Distances/Range example: Distance Range Melee (adjacent) ~ 5 feet Close (one turn move action) ~ 30 feet Mid (2 turns dash action) ~ 120 feet Long (one minute dash action) ~ 600 feet Far (2+ minutes dash action)...

    D&D 5E (2024) Return to the 3 saves for 1D&D?

What I really can't understand is that Wizards know how to avoid this kind of problem but it seems they chose not to do it in 5e. Just bring back bonus types and don't let them stack. Paladin Aura of Protection bonus should be considered as ability bonus, so instead of adding to the saves it...

    D&D 5E (2024) Return to the 3 saves for 1D&D?

I don't know, you asked me to name monsters with good AC as examples. We've gone too far in this discussion. We can go as deep as we want in the discussion, add complexity by taking in consideration a lot of factors like criticals, ability bonuses, specific builds, average monster AC and saves...

    D&D 5E (2024) Return to the 3 saves for 1D&D?

I thought you asked for non-boss monsters. Still, even with these "not high" ACs, it's better to aim at the lower save. I do. 4 attacks dealing 1d8 each is no different than a cantrip dealing 4d8. I could consider critical hit chance but it's more math than I want to do and I think I don't...

    D&D 5E (2024) Return to the 3 saves for 1D&D?

From Dungeon of the Mad Mage, an adventure that ends in high tier levels. Shadowdusk Hold & Mad Wizard's Lair levels (for characters above 17th level), non-boss enemies: Monster CR AC Lowest Save Chance of avoiding a martial +11 attack Chance of avoiding a spellcaster DC 19 spell Cantrip...

    D&D 5E (2024) Return to the 3 saves for 1D&D?

How many rounds it will take for a martial to figure out that the target has a good AC and then what he'll do with this information? He can only target AC, that's my point: lack of choice. You have to take in consideration that saves scale very badly, it's not hard to have a +11 Dex save in...

    D&D 5E (2024) Return to the 3 saves for 1D&D?

So, worst case scenario spellcasters have the same chance martials trying to hit AC, but spellcasters can change the save they'll aim next round.

    D&D 5E (2024) Return to the 3 saves for 1D&D?

The problem with 5e saves is that you'll have bad saves, at least 2. And when saves are your defense against spells, look at the problem in combat: casters have options, it is easy to pick 3 cantrips that require one save each and the chances you'll have one that is almost certain hit is high...

    D&D 5E (2024) Return to the 3 saves for 1D&D?

To avoid this problem you should have lowest of 'n' abilities or str, cha and int having their own save and these saves being meaningful (not 5e way). Even the sum of 'n' is not enough since you can boost the others and dump str, cha, int. Any other option?

D&D 5E (2024) Dropping armor proficiencies and using Strength as base for armor use.

I think a good design is to always use odd ability values as requirement. Even values are still powerful giving a + in tests and player statistics.

    D&D 5E (2024) Return to the 3 saves for 1D&D?

I don't remember having to think on what Save to use when there were only Fort/Refl/Will, it was so easy. If Wizards don't want the rules to be the protagonist, they should think of bringing back the 3 saves. I just don't like the 4e way of "pick up the highest ability mod from x and y", it...

    D&D 5E (2024) Rebalancing melee weapons for 5.5E

Yeah, I'm not changing the way classes have access to simple/martial weapons or spells, my question was regarding damage calculation mechanics. You suggested that, for those who can pick up a weapon (everyone), damage could be based on martial training, my question was analogous: for those who...

Would you agree to do the same with spells? Remove spell damage, base spell damage on magic training?

D&D 5E (2024) Does anyone else think that 1D&D will create a significant divide in the community?

Wizards calling it a new edition or not, new rules always cause some division. The fact that these new rules are compatible with older ones will avoid a break like 3e to 4e, but there will be groups playing old and new rules and moving from one to another will require some adaptation, not to...

    D&D 5E (2024) Epic Boon Balance

Because there is a lot of problems in high levels and maybe this is the reason why many players keep their campaigns in low level tier.

    D&D 5E (2024) Epic Boon Balance

You tried to diminish the importance of the discussion and the attention that high levels ahould get based on the assumption that no one ever plays high level campaigns, probably because you don't. I do, so please let the discussion go on so I can benefit from it. Let's be more inclusive. If the...

I do play high level campaigns and I would like WotC to pay attention to level 20. Your comment was selfish.

    D&D 5E (2024) 5e spell saves versus 4e spell attacks

Fireball power is measured when you roll the spell damage. Attack roll is to decide if you hit or not.
