    Player Revolt

My players went along with C&C, but grumbled all the way through until it was no fun. Since I refused to DM 3e any more (the reason we tried C&C), we settled on AD&D 1e and that worked. I've been involved in a number of player revolts against a railroaded campaign (seeking any way to get out...

    Adapt or Perish!

So ... you're saying that a generation with one set of culturally shared memories of fantasy literature has to adapt to modern fantasy norms with which they aren't familiar and that don't have the same impact? Unless I misread your post, that's pure nonsense, Merric. We don't game with people...

    So, who has Delta Green?

Have the original, not Countdown or the d20 version. It doesn't match my Lovecraft atmosphere preferences, but it's obviously very good if you want to power up the good guys a little bit against the mythos. It does more than that, of course, too.

Any Two Things Sound Alike if You're Vague Enough

This thread is a beautiful thing. I vote it shouldn't get moved.

This hits the nail on the head.

    Favorite 2e modules?

Hellgate Keep had some interesting ideas, but sucked as an actual playable module. Can't think of anything good from 2e in terms of modules. The best stuff is from the 1e and Basic period. EDIT - clarifying - there's a lot of 2e stuff I have not seen; I'm just saying that of the small amount...

    Find the Anime Challenge

We're in agreement about stylization: I do remember both the art I didn't like and I definitely agree that there's comic book influence in early editions. When I said: "My real objection, properly phrased, is that the art derives from comic book styles, some inherent to all superhero comic...

    Find the Anime Challenge

When I complain about the 3e art being "anime," I mean that the weapons are too big and silly, that the action poses are too extreme, and that body proportions are way out of the human norm. The argument that the action poses in American comics are also too extreme, and that this is therefore...

    Savage Worlds for Spelljammer

Actually, I think Savage Worlds fits Spelljammer better than out-of-print D&D, too. Not familiar with Star Wars saga. But no D&D edition has really handled swashbuckling very well. Old editions handled the loose feel of it, but that whole AC thing got in the way. 3e fixed the AC problem with...

    opinion on 2 adventures, pls!

I actually think Xanathon is okay, but it needs tweaking and certainly isn't in the same league with Isle of Dread or Castle Amber.

Anything like the SRD for OD&D?

But if you're just looking to play, get the pdfs of the actual OD&D books from Paizo or RPGnow. WOTC made them available. If you're looking to publish under an OSRIC-like SRD then no, there's not an SRD out there.

Has D&D changed Dramatically over the Years?

The rules have refocused the game in 3e, and the mode of recommended play refocused play for 2e (and then reverted pretty much in 3e). In 1e, much more time is generally spent screwing around with things to see what they do, and also mapping. The relative sparsity of detail in the combat...

D&D 4E 4E boon or bust for Old School support?

Yeah, but you know how nitpicky I am about law. I can't help it. :) Sorry. :heh:

D&D 4E 4E boon or bust for Old School support?

This is correct. I think P&P is actually referring to the ins and outs of personal jurisdiction, venue, choice of law, and possibly forum non conveniens. Parts of the matter would almost certainly play out under British law rather than American, even though things would start under American law.

D&D 4E 4E boon or bust for Old School support?

I should also say that even though I got the ball rolling on the OSRIC project, I'm not particularly invested in it. I don't play straight AD&D, I play a hybrid mishmash that takes elements from 2e and even things I liked from 3e. My real goal right now is to focus gamers from all the editions...

D&D 4E 4E boon or bust for Old School support?

I'd like to point out that Valiant isn't, as far as I know, one of the two licensees involved with OSRIC (and that's assuming I'm actually a licensee). The only other licensee he could be is Stuart Marshall acting secretly under another name, and I REALLY doubt that. Valiant's views don't...

D&D 4E 4E boon or bust for Old School support?

Where can one find the information on the Wilderlands stuff (particularly C&C) - I've seen the 3e campaign itself, and it looks pretty cool. While I'm not interested in using the campaign, I'd love to see some old Judges Guild type material done with an old school system. Frankly, I think that...

    Saga of the Witch Queen

Saga of the Witch Queen by Harley Stroh with Jon Hershberger (Goodman Games Special 1e Gencon 2007 edition), 80 pages, perfect-bound softcover. This review contains spoilers.
