    Fighting Demons

Demons have ridiculous mobility, due to at will Greater Teleport and plane shifting magic. If the party wants to win the fight, they must, must, MUST have a way to counteract this: either dimensional anchors (which have a decent chance of bouncing off spell resistance), ways to follow (for...

    Unsimplified Fractions -- why?

Looking through the Spell Compendium, I see some weird cases of level-dependent bonuses to rolls, damage, and so on that just seem... odd. For instance, in the Energy Spheres spell, each orb of energy deals 5 points of damage per 5 caster levels. Why not just one point of damage per level? The...

    Isochron Scepter

According to the 3.5 SRD, items that grant a bonus spell cost (spell level)^2 x1000 gp. This item, when used for all 2nd level spells, grants an average of 3.5 bonus spells per day. Since it has the potential to grant more--up to five--I'd round that up to 4. Thus, I'd cost it in this manner: 4...

    [June] What are you reading?

I'm about halfway through Neal Stephensen's The System of the World. After that's done, I'll probably pick up All Tomorrow's Parties or something else Gibson.

How do you see in the dark?

Yeah--that's the point. They're cheap, they hover over your shoulder, and you can place a Light or Continual Flame on them.

    New Spell: Schbeiker's Ice Spiker

Looks good, except I'd change the damage to either 2d6 piercing and 1d6 cold; or 3d6 damage, half of which is piercing and half of which is cold. Given that a failed Ref save means that the spike's made contact, it'd make sence for there to be at least some piercing damage in there.

    Aeon (updated 10/9/14)

A pet peeve of mine: 'wherefore' does not mean where. It means why. As in, when Juliet says "Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo," she's lamenting the fact that her lover's last name is Montague, not wondering where he's gotten off to.

    Persian Feats - please critique

Very cool and evocative! I like them all except for Guile in the Face of Death, which seems like something that you should be able to do without a feat.

24 hour comics, 24 hour RPGs... how about a 24 hour module?

Hi guys, I've done two 24 Hour RPGs (One Upon a Time and Long Ago for 2004, which is rather good, and Sunrise for 2003, which is rather bad), so maybe I can offer my perspective on this. In the 24 hour game and 24 hour comic, you have a GOAL of reaching 24 pages: it's not a requirement, it's...

    Aeon (updated 10/9/14)

I doubt that it was "merely" two strokes from the Achma's sword... more likely two smitings, with Eadric and his blade benefitting from a half dozen various other enhancements. Also, excellent updates! It's awesome to have you back, Sep!

    Fort saves to stabilize

We've used a DC 19 Constitution check instead of the 10% chance for some time now. Works out the same way for Con 10-11 characters, a bit better for tougher characters and a bit worse for more frail ones... plus it feels like your character has more influence on the roll.

Building a wizard's tower on the cheap

Maybe I should just consider doing some of the hard stuff (like softening up the stone of the mountainside) with spells, and paying grunts to do the rest? I like being generous, so I'd pay 5 sp/day to masons, and 2 sp/day to laborers. For 10 GP a day, I could get 4 skilled craftsmen to oversee...

Building a wizard's tower on the cheap

So here's a queston: how much does rock weigh? Mud? I ask because I'm thinking that I could use a Transmute Rock to Mud spell and the teleport and dimension door it away, thus saving a great deal of time in excavation. Also, how much raw earth, mud, and stone can elementals move around, and how...

Building a wizard's tower on the cheap

Thanks for the advice, all. A few things: • My GM knows of my intention, and is working with me. • We don't use adventure modules. • Some other dead dude's tower won't cut it. It must be MINE! MWAHAHAHAHA! The suggestion of binding an outsider is an obvious choice that I had not considered...
