How Did/Will You Name Your Kids?

My first son's name (Nick) was chosen to honor his maternal grandfather. Hid middle name (Charles) was chosen to honor my grandfather. Both grandfathers died before he was born. My younger son's name (Justin Patrick) was chosen just because we liked the name. We actually had a few names...

What's your favourite "Forgotten Realms" place?

Definately Silver Marches a.k.a. Savage Frontier / Savage North. Lots of history, dungeons, a big honkin' magical forest, interesting cities, but not too civilized. Oh and orcs. Lots and lots of orcs. :D

    "It's just a game."

I voted #3: dedicated hobby. Right now it's my only real creative outlet, which seperates it from any other kind of game for me.

When will my group ever accept me?

I agree with was; the fact that you don't want to tell your boyfriend may make some of them feel like you don't want it to me known that you associate with the likes of them. Based on what you've written here, I'm sure that's not the case, but I could see feeling like that if I were in their...

    Tips for a long-lasting D&D campaign?

(OT: there should be a "campaigns" category) A friend of mine wants to start-up a "vanilla" D&D game down the road, just to experience having run a game from levels 1 through 20. I've run such a game myself, off and on for many years, that's now in Epic levels. It was originally a 2nd-Edition...

    Any other vegetarians / vegans?

While it's true that B12 deficiency is serious, it is quite rare in humans, even among strict (dietary) vegans. Here's an article that discusses the subject in some detail for those who wish to know more.

    Explain Canada

I get the impression from this thread that Toronto isn't well-liked by Canadians not living there. Why is that, or am I misreading this thread?

Why can't you be prepared for a game session

Wow, I could have almost written this myself, except that I'm currently a player and not the DM. My wife and I work have two young children that require a lot of attention as well, but we managed to have our characters ready for the first game session, whereas others were still choosing skills...

Would You Allow an Old Starting PC?

Yeah, if nothing else, you'd think he'd have like 5 levels of commoner or expert by then. I'd probably overlook that if I had a player wanting to play an old character, though.

Would You Allow an Old Starting PC?

Sure. The hit to physical stats and decreased lifespan makes-up for the mental stat bonuses, I think.

    Minorities & D&D/RPGs

With the exception of one Mexican, all of my gaming buddies have been white. I have gamed with gay/lesbian people before; does that count? :p

A Gnome Variant: Looking for critique...

+4 INT and +1 to DC of spells cast would mean that a Gnome wizard would get +3 to the save DCs of all their spells. A player would have to be crazy not to take this race if creating a wizard. Likewise, +4 DEX and +2 size adjustment means +3 to AC ... this is a huge advantage. -4 STR doesn't...

long long post about my system of choice problem...

IMO, d20 is a great rules framework, and very easy to customize. Making your own versions of the core classes, and your own feat trees sounds like a blast to me.

    Any other vegetarians / vegans?

Well, one thing to consider is existing items: I've been vegetarian for ethical reasons (trying to move closer to vegan all the time) for about 1 1/2 years, but have only had non-leather shoes for about a month. Why? Because I had already purchased them before my switch, and giving them up...
