    The "Everything Sorcerer" Thread

I'm sure he can cast with a weapon in hand, but is he really wielding it and therefore threatening squares with it on a round he casts a spell?

    The "Everything Sorcerer" Thread

Am I right in saying that he can only wield it, and therefore threaten squares with it on rounds where he doesn't cast a spell, though?

    Empowered Ray of Enfeeblement

I don't think that's the intent: I think if the intent was to prevent any further strength drain not as a result of the spell, then they would have added "for the duration of the spell" to the end of the last sentence.

Beating Writer's Block in Character Design

Along the lines if what Elder-Basilisk and Dingleberry were saying, sometimes limiting the scope of your ideas can help. If you restrict yourself to a narrow set of parameters, then ironically it can sometimes spur your creativity. I'll use Eberron as an example, too. Take an interesting...

Ideas for Rogue in Heavy Armor

Well, my original idea was a warforged with the adamantine body feat. I don't know how familiar with Eberron, but the warforged were built to be soldiers in the Last War. My idea was that this particular warforged decided he didn't want to fight, and deserted when he got the opportunity...

Ideas for Rogue in Heavy Armor

Nah, you were just pointing out the mechanical aspects that I missed. I'd only want to do this if it game some benefit, though, otherwise it's only drawbacks for no good reason. I guess the only advantage would be to be able to put less points in DEX (or even use it as a dump stat!), and put...

    Best race for sorcerer?

Ha! Settle it like a gamer, huh? There's 7 core races on the PHB, though, and since this is Eberron, there's 4 more for a total of 11. This calls for a chart: 1) Changeling 2) Dwarf 3) Elf 4) Gnome 5) Half-Elf 6) Half-orc 7) Halfling 8) Human 9) Kalashtar 10) Shifter 11) Warforged 12) Other...

Ideas for Rogue in Heavy Armor

Never thought of that before ... I guess I can't think of an advantage to do my wacky rogue tank afterall, then. Hmm....

Ideas for Rogue in Heavy Armor

Thanks, Feldspar; that was a great analysis and a good catch on the limitation to the tumble skill. Using a dwarf to get around that catch is a cool idea. The race fits the image of a more martial rogue, anyway. Here's a sample 28 point build. I'd probably start with rogue for the skill...

    Best race for sorcerer?

Yeah, I know; I just can't help but powergame at times. :heh: I think the problem is that I once played a half-orc monk, which is an underpowered race with an underpowered class. The two stacked for a seriously underpowered character, and made me really cautious when I created characters...

    Best race for sorcerer?

Only ECL 0 races are allowed, since the campaign is starting at 1st-level, btw. Thanks!

Does anyone else never play humans?

I've recently realized that I have a pattern of not playing any human characters. It's not that they are underpowered or anything, but I think it's just the blandness that makes it hard for me. I like the stat adjustments, racial abilities, and roleplaying chalanges that other races present...

    Best race for sorcerer?

Oh, and I understand that raptorans from Races of the Wild get racial substitution levels for sorcerer. Are these any good?

    Best race for sorcerer?

I'll be playing in a new Eberron campaign soon, and one of the possible classes I may choose is sorcerer (I'm being very indecisive this time around!). Anyway, I was curious what people thought was the best race for this class. It's 28 point buy, and all Eberron and generic D&D optional...

Ideas for Rogue in Heavy Armor

Races of Stone. The first requires BAB +4 and heavy armor proficiency, and the second one requires a +8 BAB.

Ideas for Rogue in Heavy Armor

I thought I'd do something a little different and try to build a rogue character that uses heavy armor in order to increase survivability in toe to toe combat while flanking. Seems crazy, I know, but I thought I'd try my hand at it to see if it can be made to work or not. Pros: Better AC...

So You All Meet In A Bar...

It didn't happen to me, but a friend of mine had a DM that asked his players to provide him with their characters' background, including "why you are in jail". Each player had to come-up with a reason why his or her character was in jail (some were guilty, some were not), and the players worked...

    D&D 3.x 3.5 Point Buy

Yeah, but wisdom doesn't need to be 14 until 15th-level, so having the points in other stats will help more early-on than having them in Wisdom right-away IMO.

    D&D 3.x 3.5 Point Buy

Li Shenron already posted the point buy costs, so I'll just give my suggested distribution for your 32-point human paladin: STR 16 DEX 10 CON 12 INT 10 WIS 12 CHA 16 You'll want to bump-up your wisdom to 14 eventually to be able to cast 4th-level paladin spells, but you'll have plenty of time...

    Spells as thrown weapons?

Are there any spells that could count as thrown weapons, in terms of the halfling's racial bonus to hit with thrown weapons? The only one I can think of offhand is fire seeds.
