Can't game at your own house?

You're at Stanford? Heck, the Stafnord roleplaying club used to have 2-3 groups playing various games in the rooms around the outside of Meyer library. Hmm... looks like there's at least one game still scheduled there - may want to check with the GM to check how one would go about booking a...

Stat Generation - your wierd and wacky ways

Not bad, but it removes any incentive to have any stats below 11. I wouldn't go so far as to encourage people to take *really* low stats, but an occasional 8 or 9 here and there makes for a much more "organic" character. I do agree that the price increases for pointbuy should fall at the...

The Paladin killed someone...what to do?

See above. It's a paladin of Hieroneous, god of Chivalry, Honor, Justice, Valor, and all that good stuff...

The Paladin killed someone...what to do?

Wow, half a page of bitching back and forth about moral relativism, and nobody seems to even have noticed the Original Poster has actually jumped in to give us more information! Given the fact that the paladin never actually established the halfling was anything more than a hired flunky with no...

The Paladin killed someone...what to do?

Not to mention the fact that if *I* had planned this attack, that halfling was probably just some street kid promised a shiny gold coin just "to play a prank on an old friend of mine". Fact is, we don't really know enough about the situation to decide whether the halfling deserved killing...

What is the minimum level would you play if you were never to gain xp again?

1st - as long as you can at least gain some more skills, maybe the occasional feat or extra spell known. I would *not* want to play a static character that never develops in any way.

If you want to stock up on your GURPS library...

So, what do some people feel are some of the absolutely-must-have's on this list? Preferably ones that wont become outdated with 4e. For now, I'm planning to get Faerie and Celtic Myth. Open to other suggestions...

Would it be mean for me to have Potions of Inflict Serious Wounds as treasure?

I would, however, keep it somewhat realistic with regards to the bad guy's motives. For example, a BBEG with hubris to spare is *not* going to count on being bested by a puny band of adventurers. So whereas labeling potions is eminently practical, mislabeling them just in case they fall in...

Stat Generation - your wierd and wacky ways

Paging Man in a Funny Hat... paging Man in a Funny Hat... Just want to make sure you saw my response above, as it seems like you may have misunderstood howm many (or rather how few) 18's the "mirror" method actually generates...

    WOTC's own creature-by-poll

What, no CR1-2? Grumble, grumble... CR 3-5 it is then. ;) For those of you too lazy to go find the link yourselves, here it is: http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/dd/20051104a (poll is at the bottom of the page)

    GURPS-Share your thoughts

Oh, I never claimed they were "problematic". As a game mechanic it works fine. Just like I'm not going to complain that pawns in chess can only move one square at a time. I mean, if that pawn really put in an effort - maybe it's an elite pawn, veteran of many campaigns - maybe it should be able...

Would it be mean for me to have Potions of Inflict Serious Wounds as treasure?

A ghoulish *Illusionist*, eh? Depending on whether he was expecting any trouble over the past couple of days, and on how many potions he tends to carry around, there's a good chance he may have cast Magic Aura on at least a few of them, to make them *look* like Cure potions. So much for doing...

Stat Generation - your wierd and wacky ways

No, no, no, no.... One SET of stats in 5 has an 18! Whereas with 4d6 it's one SET of stats in about 10 (unless people are cheating, or the DM is a little too soft-hearted with rerolls...) Per-stat, it's about one stat in 27 that'll be an 18. For 4d6, it's one stat in 54.

Doesn't bother me. It *does* bother me in DnD that, even with 6-second rounds, people still say "that one attack really represents a set of feints and half-jabs spread over a 6 second period, with perhaps only one jab in there with an actual chance of connecting". That's right up there with...

Does anyone else not like Anne Mcaffery's books?

Mcaffery's ok. Never really excited me enough to be able to say "this series was nice, but this other series was just crap". ;) However, I do have two other authors/series, if you don't mind a little thread hijack... - Hyperion series by Dan Simmons: Read the first two, and resolved never to...

Stat Generation - your wierd and wacky ways

And another assignment variant, while we're at it: Roll 4d6-drop-1 (or any other method, for that matter) and assign as you go! I.e. after rolling the 1st stat, you choose where to assign it. Then you roll the 2nd stat, and choose where to assign that one, etc. You never get to change any of...

Stat Generation - your wierd and wacky ways

Hey YOU... yes, you in the Funny Hat! :) Mr. VanderPol, I presume? Got a question for you regarding a comment you made in your overview about the "mirror" method I proposed: Just wondering why you call this one in particular a "VERY" high powered method, especially when some of the other...

Need a quick critique on two covers...

Heh - I thought it was "Treasurehunter" (That'd be Schatzjager instead.) Works either way, though! :D As others have already pointed out, my #1 objection is that the sword blade is just way too blurry! Heck, lightsabers have more definition than that. And with the sharp contrasts on the hilt...
