These two sound quite similar. Maybe swap one of these out, for the sake of diversity? Of the two, I like the Carapace least - sounds more like a disease (e.g. Lycanthropy) than an actual plant. We never see its plant form, it doesn't behave like a plant, it doesn't look like a plant... Edible...

Interestingly, there is almost *no* correlation with our own What monster types would you like to see more of poll from a few weeks ago. Sure Aberrations came in a distant #2 in our poll, and Fey (our clear #1) came in third place in the WotC poll, but friggin *Dragons* was their #2 and dead...

Good point. This could be another environmental hazard rather than a creature you'd encounter in combat. E.g. if you stay in one place for too long (and that includes pitching camp), you'll become Entangled after x minutes. Again, these would probably fall under Poison rather than creatures...

How about an "inspired by the real world" theme? The giant sundew, giant venus fly-trap and giant pitcher plan would all fit in there. Plus my bamboo shoots and corpse flower.

I 100% agree! Giving players who are out of the action an NPC to run makes for a fun change of pace for the player, it relieves some of the burden from the DM, and combat typically gets far more exciting because all of a sudden you get NPC flunkies with personality and tactics. Having to sit...

If your players are ok with the change, and alignment hasn't really played much of a role so far, I see no reason you couldn't switch mid-game. Just act as if that's the way the world has always worked...
