D&D Psionics Survey; Plus "First Major Mechanical Expansion" Coming?

I don't care about Psionics. No aliens or science fiction for me. But I do like Mystics, diviners, gypsies, sooth-sayers and prophets. A psychic class would be wonderful, or at least no less harmful than a Lore Bard or Knowledge Cleric. So long as they keep the weird "psion" stuff to a minimum.

    D&D 5E (2014) 5e Magical Girl Class

I'd go Sorlock rather than straight Warlock. EB becomes Venus's Crescent Beam Smash. UA was a light-themed patroness option. Tomelock lets you pick up some easy at-will abilities...a slightly reflavored Thorn Whip could pass as a Love-Me Chain, for example. The rod casting focus becomes a...

What's the best class for mind control abilities?

I'd start Warlock, then branch heavily into Bard. That gives you telepathy plus charms, and could help distract from the inherently musical backstory of Bard. UA Awakened Mystic is even better, if that's allowed.

    D&D 5E (2014) Party Optimization

I won't jump on the "play what you want" bandwagon. While true, I know that I always have more ideas than I have time to play, and such questions are helpful to narrow down what might sound interesting. Front line fighter makes the most sense, or any sort of melee-type really. I wouldn't worry...

D&D 5E (2014) What skills are used most in your game?

Stealth and Perception, without a doubt. Deception/Persuasion comes up a lot as well. Athletics...more than Acrobatics, but not as much as you'd think. I don't think I've made a single Investigation roll in any of the past five campaigns I've been a part of.

    D&D 5E (2014) 5e Skills whats your opinion

I like skills. I like how they're always "maxed", instead of 3E where you had points but had to put them all into the same few to keep them useful. In theory it's nice to spread them around, but in practice half a skill isn't much better than no skill. I don't like tools though. Seems to just...

D&D 5E (2014) UA: What is a Mystic? (ability flavor discussion)

But see, I may be framing the debate by saying "mind over matter" because my ideal character types would be Charles Xavier and Luke Skywalker as I want to play a mentalist. To a Second Ed guy, it might be a pulpy scientist, as he's trying to model a Psion. For Third or Fourth Ed, one of those...

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana: Psionics and Mystics Take Two

Actually, I was thinking the same and started a new thread about an hour or so ago, before reading the latest updates here. Though I was more curious about the ability flavor themselves, rather than the backstory flavor. Feel free to chip in!

D&D 5E (2014) UA: What is a Mystic? (ability flavor discussion)

Here's a question I'm curious about: Much of the Mystic discussion both now and before has been regarding flavor...pseudoscience, Far Realms, even the name itself. The other complaints largely have been around a handful of abilities (usually regarding speed or weapon buffs, often when...

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana: Psionics and Mystics Take Two

Anyone else notice that the fix for the floating save - tying it to Wisdom - now breaks it for multiclassing? If you're MCing into Mystic, unless Wisdom is your base class save that ability is useless.

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana: Psionics and Mystics Take Two

Dislike the Far Realm connection, and dislike pseudoscience. Really, is "psychic" a simple enough concept already? And flavorful enough for fantasy gaming? Isn't that why we had the name change to Mystic? For tying disciplines to orders, it does seem unnecessarily clumsy. Choosing from class or...

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana: Psionics and Mystics Take Two

Generally I like it. I'll need to dig in a little deeper for better analysis, but three things jump out at me immediately: 1) Not fond of "free HP" being the benefit to stay within your discipline. For Immortals using combat powers it makes sense, but for Awakened using out-of-combat psychic...

D&D 5E (2014) Do you want your DM to fudge?

Personally, I'm okay with it only in limited amounts, and only if the players NEVER find out. It's anticlimactic to see a beloved character offed by a kobold due to a lucky roll, before his epic quest comes to fruition. But by the same token sometimes bad things happen to good people for no real...

D&D 5E (2014) How Murder Hobo is Your Party

Surprisingly low. My Rogue has only unsheathed her dagger twice in a campaign lasting about half a year. My Wizard in another has only cast a handful of utility spells - perhaps two a session - though we're only about five sessions into that one. We only really average one combat a day, if that...

    Recommend Some Anime

True, but the name of the series eluded me at the time. I believe it's something to the tune of "picking up girls in a dungeon?" Another I hadn't mentioned, which may be appealing due to the fantasy genre, is Yona of the Dawn. Has a real Fushigi Yuugi vibe to it, though not executed quite as...

    D&D 5E (2014) [5e] What to play in a 2-people group? Other character is a paladin.

When you're short-handed, Bard is always the correct answer. Druid would be my second choice, if the music theme rubs you the wrong way. Both have healing, full casting, support, utility, melee capability (with Valor and Moon), and enough skills to get you by (more for Bard, more different...

Your Options For D&D 5E Electronic Tools

I'm using the Lion's Den Fight Club app for iOS. Loving it so far. Haven't done as much with the Game Master one, but the former was well worth the price.

    Getting into character

Question: When does a character start to feel "real" to you? I've been gaming on and off for about 20 years now, coming off a long inactive stretch with D&D Next/5e. Played a number of pick-up games and one-shots as of late, and just now getting involved with a fleshed-out campaign or two...
