New Unearthed Arcana Released, With 8 New Forgotten Realms-Themed Subclasses

Knowledge Domain Cleric: This one is too generic and bland for me. I don't really understand how many of the abilities really tie back to the theme of Knowledge. I'd much prefer if they went more in the direction of Monte Cook's old Akashic class. Make this the class that is basically the magic...

Referring to Purple Knight. I don't recall the 2e Purple Knight for PCs, but my memory of that era is more hazy than any other era because I never got a chance to actually play in that era despite owning some books.

New Unearthed Arcana Released, With 8 New Forgotten Realms-Themed Subclasses

College of the Moon Bard: This subclass, so far, is pretty darn powerful at all three subclass power points. In terms of theme, I like it. Monshae Isles is a celtic themed region, and this feels adequately celtic with folktales-drive powers. Moonshae Folktales: At 3rd level, Tales of Mirth...

New Unearthed Arcana Released, With 8 New Forgotten Realms-Themed Subclasses

While fluff text originated then, I think the first player class for it originated under WOTC with 3e? Further, as WOTC took over with TSR employees still on staff replacing primarily the executives who had been hired from outside TSR to begin with, I'd say they're just a continuation of the...

New Unearthed Arcana Released, With 8 New Forgotten Realms-Themed Subclasses

Naw, they're mostly rituals, which Wizards will have in abundance without the need to prepare them. It's sort of catching a cleric up to where wizards are already at with some ritual utility spells. Which makes sense for a class like this.

New Unearthed Arcana Released, With 8 New Forgotten Realms-Themed Subclasses

It's WOTC's native country and if they want to put up a casino on their tribal lands which used to be hunting grounds, that's not colonial it's their right. To put it another way, I find your misuse of the concept of "colonial" at best distasteful and out of place in a conversation like this...

New Unearthed Arcana Released, With 8 New Forgotten Realms-Themed Subclasses

A Scion of the Three/Bladesinger multiclass has a lot of synergy. Human, Alert and Magic Initiate: Wizard for True Strike Scion Lev 3: You want to target a bloodied creature, so Dex not as important but still secondary for AC. Teleports linked to Int Spellcasting tied to Int True Strike for...

D&D General Ray Winninger on 5e’s success, product cadence, the OGL, and more.

I think you'd compare to the comparable time period because that's a simple reference that people can understand, particularly if they were not already aware (like you and I) that later years had much stronger sales. Comparing start to start for an edition is easier to explain, and marketing is...

D&D General Ray Winninger on 5e’s success, product cadence, the OGL, and more.

Mike, it's been 4.5 months. Not a year. If your premise is it's not selling well, then the data to support that premise shouldn't be that it didn't beat the best year in 1/3rd that time, right? I mean, I don't think they even printed enough copies to be able to do that. Again, beating it at...

Elsewhere people were doubting that the audience had shifted to 50% women. So I checked and sure enough, "According to Wizards' internal studies of the player population, 60% of D&D players are male, 39% are female, and 1% identify otherwise." That's from 2023.

What are you reading in 2025?

I love Rex Stout. Never read that one though, or his biography. How were they?

    D&D 5E (2014) Does Dungeonhacking work in 5e?

I don't think D&D and real world physicist monitoring accuracy of the laws of physics is really a meaningful aspect of playing D&D for fun. I think "I push on a pole to trigger a trap" is well within the realm of verisimilitude for the level of D&D at most tables. Also, rules-wise, you can...

    D&D General Are You There D&D? It's Me, J.R.R. Tol-KEEEEN!

My man, I once went to Vegas in my early 30s, when the latest (4th book? 5th?) Harry Potter book had just come out, and no joke I literally counted EIGHTEEN adults around that pool all reading the same book. The idea that Harry Potter was just a youth thing is absurd. The books were read by all...

    D&D 5E (2014) Does Dungeonhacking work in 5e?

I'm just going off my most common DM's reaction. Tapping doesn't trigger a pit, but if we suspect a pit or similar pressure plate requiring more than a light amount of weight on it, saying we place the end of a 10' pole against the area and push usually does it. We've probably done this maybe 5...

    D&D 5E (2014) Does Dungeonhacking work in 5e?

It can if you put weight on it. The mage hand cannot.

    D&D 5E (2014) Does Dungeonhacking work in 5e?

To perceive something you use both vision and hearing. If you have disadvantage to see things, it's just disadvantage to your check. The rules don't really split the perception to hearing and vision when making a passive check to detect something as it uses both. As pointed out above there is a...

    D&D 5E (2024) What's Your 2026 WotC D&D Wishlist?

Man I asked you point blank twice. I don't know how much clearer I could have made it. It had a question mark on the end of each sentence and everything. Finally. So it was not just curiosity but to start a discussion. WHICH IS WHAT I WAS ASKING ALL ALONG (that's what "challenge their...

    D&D 5E (2024) What's Your 2026 WotC D&D Wishlist?

I didn't refuse to believe it. I asked you and you didn't answer. Twice. I don't want a fight. You're the one who, when he got an answer (from cranberry), challenged that answer instead of just accepting the answer for what it was. Which prompted my question about if you were "just curious"...

    D&D 5E (2024) What's Your 2026 WotC D&D Wishlist?

Tunnels and Trolls had a decent solo play set of rules. They published solo adventures too. I've heard a third party has decent D&D solo rules called "DM Yourself"

    D&D 5E (2024) What's Your 2026 WotC D&D Wishlist?

I don't have concerns around half races as it relates to half-elves. So what makes them worth keeping is I like them, or at least I like the half-elf (I don't personally care about half-orc). That's the identical reason given in every other reply to this thread: people just like what they wish...
