    How about SciFi C&C?

It wouldn't be hard to use the Siege engine in Sci-fi, but it would be a lot of work to get the rest of the mechanics -- C&C's pretty hard-wired as a fantasy game. I like T20 for sci-fi, but my players are more into the Gothic style of SF - more like 40K (which I've never played).

What's the best you've ever gotten for your buck in gaming products?

    1. My AD&D PH, bought when I was 12 for $12. 2. Castles & Crusades, bought when I was 38, for $20. 3. Jack Vance, Fritz Leiber and R.E. Howard fiction - it was gaming stuff even though it wasn't gaming stuff. 4. Village of Hommlet and Keep on the Borderlands 5. 3E stuff bought for hundreds...

    Castle Zagyg cover art

THAT'S IT! I knew I'd seen it. Did he do any covers for the Sprague de Camp Conan books, or was that Frazetta? Ha. I knew I had some books with his cover art.

Castles & Crusades - Specific monster stats

I've also, on the TLG boards, put up another method, based on Serleran's. For 1+ HD monsters, add 15 to HD on prime stats, roll secondary stats on 3d6. For less than 1HD, just roll the stats. It means the numbers don't jump as much as HD increases, and they start a bit higher.

Tell me about your Castles and Crusades adventures!

If it were out now, I'd seriously be considering starting a party in Castle Zagyg - the Yggsburgh area looks very cool, very Greyhawky. The world we're using now was designed to be the springboard for planar adventuring (it doesn't take long to get from 9th to really-high in 3.5, and that was...

Tell me about your Castles and Crusades adventures!

I got my copy of the Players Handbook, I guess, six weeks ago. We've run five sessions with it so far. We were originally playing D&D 3.5, and had just started a new homebrew campaign I'd been working on for a couple of months before. I won't compare the two editions, for fear of starting a...

Castles & Crusades - Specific monster stats

Here are my thoughts on the overall concept of monster stats, which I also posted over on the TLG forum. The thing is, that monster creation is viewed as holistic in C&C rather than a building process at all. You look at it, if you don't like it, you tweak something. The entire concept of...

    ADnD 2nd ED VS. 3.5

My sense is that (my personal preferences) 1E was so cool (it was D&D) that I forgave its rules-flaws, 2E should have fixed those flaws but didn't, which made me quite unforgiving of it, 3E fixed those flaws wonderfully, but did such a good job that it changed the feel of the game (slowed...

    Castle Zagyg cover art

I'm pretty sure I read a book with one of those paintings as a cover back when I was a kid. So I started looking through the old book stuff. I found a collection of all the Elric books. So I quit looking and read Elric.

[C&C] Will there be a revised Player's book?

Wingnut, thank you, that's a very cool insight into the industry, which I know nothing about. So, (this is really just curiosity) - do other distributors buy from the main distributor? Also, can you say what the sales look like? I can tell that C&C is a hit, as you say, but the internet's not...

Castles & Crusades - Specific monster stats

Oh, Lord, I avoid them too. But I've got a wizard among my players who loves polymorph.

    Castle Zagyg cover art

My sense, especially from reading the preview, is that in terms of campaign setting this is a small, modular setting with huge numbers of adventures within and one big (massive) dungeon at the center. The same structure as "Keep on the Borderlands," but in a larger area, with more hooks and...

    Castle Zagyg cover art

Something else just occurred to me. Since Castles & Crusades is the base ruleset Gary's using, the length of the books is probably cut about 25% from what it would be using d20 stat blocks, etc. That's a LOT of information.

And then you have a nice winter, whilst the wizard slaves in the lab...

Another benefit of downtime: When the players answer the question of what they're doing in their downtime (while the wizard slaves), they begin to answer some roleplaying questions for themselves. I try to get my players to tell me at the outset what their characters do for a hobby. When you...

Castles & Crusades - Specific monster stats

If any of the C&C players out here are interested in how to generate specific monster ability scores, Serleran has generated an excellent house rule (I should also mention that he doesn't think that the application of this rule will ever be needed, but I think lots of CK's will want this as a...
