start with the d20 system, simplify it, make all feats/spells/powers/etc usable at will, add a dash of gygaxian flair, then serve hot. :D

i've had two outstanding dms (but see my sig). one was outstanding at role-playing and winging it. the other was outstanding at the intricacies of 3e combat. if they could somehow be combined, the multiverse would explode. :p

there isn't much i like about 4e, but the things that i do like, i REALLY like: 1. at-will powers/spells. the idea of a wizard running out of spells and resorting to using a crossbow makes me cry. 2. fixed hit points, although not the specific amounts. the idea of a fighter gaining one hit...

my top 3: 1. 1e dmg- tons of brilliant, helpful information; can be read for pure enjoyment (and i still enjoy reading it today). 2. 3e manual of the planes- reads like a fascinating encyclopedia. 3. 3e draconomicon- incredibly creative, incredibly detailed book on dragons.

themselves. everything else is gravy. it's hard enough finding good players, so just showing up is enough.

i ALWAYS compliment the dm on a good session. i've been on both sides of the screen, so as a player i can appreciate a good game. plus, good dm's are hard to find. we should thank them for their efforts messy
