D&D 5E (2014) Eldritch Knight: How often do you actually use War Magic?

On the other hand, if you go sword and board, maybe you can afford to save up some first level slots for something else, as your Shield spell is not so demanded. Moreover, ridiculously high AC + war caster is a good frontline combination. If enemies attack you, they have a hard time hitting. If...

D&D 5E (2014) Eldritch Knight: How often do you actually use War Magic?

Well, your Eldritch knight is really a special case.

    D&D 5E (2014) Shove attack OP?

Bear in mind that shoving is limited to enemies up to one size larger, so the strategy is not always available, and may require some team-play to be enabled. And you cannot effectively spam this strategy against multiple opponents without extra investments, as in their turn they will just stand...

D&D 5E (2014) Eldritch Knight: How often do you actually use War Magic?

I will quote Cap because the list is quite handy. This could be useful in some circumstances. The Dex save was pointed out as a negative feature, but it could be positive also, as you don't need to roll to hit, and some monsters do have good AC but crappy saves. Anyhow, maybe GFB is a more...

    D&D 5E (2014) Boots of Striding and Springing.......kinda lame

Or, this could just be how someone else reads the rules, not "homebrew level" variant rules. Anybody who is not too stingy with their interpretation of all those move-then-act rules in between the abstractions of rounds and such already allows the boots to be useful and fun, simply by assuming...

D&D 5E (2014) Warlock, Hex, and Short Rests: The Bag of Rats Problem

Awesome, so far we seem to have agreed that RAW can be unprocessed and RAI can be an Italian broadcasting company. Also, we have learnt that the word "can" is dangerous, but now I *might* be already going too far off topic. The rulebooks are written in a natural language to be interpreted as it...

D&D 5E (2014) When Fiends Attack: Are Balors, Pit Fiends and Ultraloths too weak?

I really thought I read it somewhere in the DMG, but now that you mentioned polymorph, there is a real chance my mind is playing tricks on me. Unfortunately I won't be able to clarify myself right now, as my books are 15000 km away. Sounds like fun to me. Yes, I was following that closely...

D&D 5E (2014) What Spells Would You Recommend for an EK?

Also note that the warcaster feat does wonders to your opportunity attack. Booming blade an enemy that was just trying to go past you is golden.

D&D 5E (2014) Is the Wild magic Sorcerer as terrible as it seems?

Lack of trust seems to have a huge impact on how a lot of game features (wild magic, illusions, hiding, favored enemy/terrain, etc) are perceived. I would not expect any of these to be an issue in a table where everybody knows each other for some time.

D&D 5E (2014) Warlock, Hex, and Short Rests: The Bag of Rats Problem

Yes? As far as I can remember I never claimed otherwise.

D&D 5E (2014) When Fiends Attack: Are Balors, Pit Fiends and Ultraloths too weak?

Mine too. I even played a little with some simple duel scenarios, using melee fighters and paladins one-on-one against some brute monsters, and the results were really balanced. I deliberately chose melee as the preferred tactic on both opponents so to make the experience more straightforward...

D&D 5E (2014) When Fiends Attack: Are Balors, Pit Fiends and Ultraloths too weak?

Suum cuique. Yes, and because of such, my preference is to DM/play without those kinds of spells. In the end, table consensus is achieved, and some games go with them and some without. Anyhow, even without these spells, sometimes the players just let their allies be punished until felled and...

D&D 5E (2014) Warlock, Hex, and Short Rests: The Bag of Rats Problem

I see concentration simply as a way of limiting active 'buffs/debuffs/area control' effects, and also as mechanism to allow for the opposition to counter such effects. Whatever extra in-fiction nuances are to the tastes of each table.

D&D 5E (2014) Warlock, Hex, and Short Rests: The Bag of Rats Problem

This is the core of the discussion, I guess. It also makes the whole arguing over this topic almost pointless.

D&D 5E (2014) When Fiends Attack: Are Balors, Pit Fiends and Ultraloths too weak?

The first real battle my players had against a dragon in ToD was at the last chapter of HotDQ. They had a pretty busy adventuring day which ended with a solo boss fight. At least this one I managed to make really thrilling for them. If you mean weak by relating to CR, then maybe you are right...

D&D 5E (2014) Warlock, Hex, and Short Rests: The Bag of Rats Problem

I think what was unintended was the warlock to wake up every day and do the "rat trick" (almost a (not American) football "hat trick, hahaha). You know what? Never seen in play either, but as I stated before, I really don't feel like caring about it.

D&D 5E (2014) When Fiends Attack: Are Balors, Pit Fiends and Ultraloths too weak?

The way I read the MM, it seems the devs sorta hint the readers to which monsters should make good solo fights, specially at higher levels. These are the ones with legendary and lair actions, legendary resistances and the like. Recently, I have been thinking, for someone to be able to fight...

D&D 5E (2014) What Spells Would You Recommend for an EK?

You should definitely have at least one good concentration spell starting from when you get access to level 2 spells. They are the best buffers, after all, and potentially synergize with your fighting-thing, or reduce the concentration load from your group's primary spellcasters. Just beware of...

    Human vs Variant Human

In my experience, the basic human is mostly unappealing, and the variant one is overrated.
