    Help understanding the PoL Archfey

Hey all. I've begun working the Prince of Frost into my PoL adventure. It is early yet (level 5) but I am trying to get a good handle on the nature of the Archfey. What are their powers, where do they live, how do they live, what is their relationship to the Gods, etc. I plan on playing up a...

    Dungeon Master's Kit is redundant

The kit comes with a book aimed at new DMs who don't own the DMG, tokens for the players and for every monster in the adventure, a DM screen, and a 2-part adventure made to be very friendly to new DMs (even referencing pages in the DMB). You didn't want most of the tokens, the book, or the...

    Dungeon Master's Kit is redundant

Also, that two-part adventure is pretty cool.

DM Questions for Reavers of Harkenwold veterans

The lady in the first encounter should point them to Dar or the druid. Each of those NPCs should point to 1 of 2 missions. Once the PCs have done one mission, the mission giver should point them to the other NPC. Once they have done two missions, they should be involved enough in Albridge and...

DM Questions for Reavers of Harkenwold veterans

This was my first adventure as DM. The biggest problem I had was with the Battle of Albridge. By the time the battle was set to start, the players had built it up, expecting a really cool battle and to hopefully finish off the Iron Circle. I modified two of the encounters, threw one out, and...

Looking for a motivation for players (do something cool cards?)

I have one player in particular who really has a need to find the optimum best possible combination of actions. He thinks moves ahead and spends forever trying to chose between two nearly equal choices. Of course, he picked a complicated Warlock build. He is aware that it bogs the game down...

Looking for a motivation for players (do something cool cards?)

I haven't done anything like this myself, but I would recommend limiting anything like extra action points or healing surges to 1 per day. That way, it can't break the game too much. Like if they can buy a healing surge with X "good job being ready" tokens, they can only buy one per day, and...

Adventurers! Mount Up! [Or how the hell do mount mechanics work?]

Oh nice. I've been using PC rules. edit: I don't see anything covering actions for monsters and mounts. I assume since the monster and mount are getting separate turns, the monster can't use his actions to make the mount do something. So a monster couldn't attack and move his mount, and then...

Adventurers! Mount Up! [Or how the hell do mount mechanics work?]

As a DM, I'm confused when an encounter calls for a bad guy to mount, say, one of his Dire Wolves. I'm effectively losing one monster to make only a slightly stronger single monster (because of whatever bonuses they give one another). The mount's XP counts toward the encounter, but it doesn't...

How do I let time pass in my setting?

Thanks for the ideas. As I was reading them something pretty smooth came to me (as in not seeming too railroady). The adventure that I mentioned will take a few days involves an ice themed dungeon. The enemies have just thawed from being frozen for centuries. At some point in the dungeon...

How do I let time pass in my setting?

So my players are not ones to sit back and let things happen (a good thing). They just got done kicking a group of bad guys out of a town, and left to their own devices they would go to the town this group comes from (about a week away) and fight them some more. I have an adventure that will...

How good is the new MM? (Thread split)

I think he means once per round nerfs it because on a single move, as it is now, the enemy can get hit 3 times (or more in rare cases). I agree that it is poorly written, but it wouldn't be an issue at the table as any group worth playing would table rule that to something more sensible. I...

How good is the new MM? (Thread split)

As a DM, I know there is a very blurry line between a) a player studying all his options, doing some research, and coming up with the optimal power and b) a player doing too much research and keeping up too well with monster HP. KarinsDad, you sound like you are at least on the far side of that...

D&D 4E 4E Adventures: Are there any GOOD ones for customizing?

I agree about Bark at the Moon, so maybe we have similar taste. The Reavers of Harkenwold adventure in the Dungeon Master's Kit was fantastic. It takes players from level 2 to level 4. They find themselves in a barony of small agricultural towns that have been taken over by an outside army...

Feat for +2 Heal and Trigger Second Wind as a Minor action

I searched the compendium for <second wind heal> and <second wind minor> and couldn't find anything like that.

How good is the new MM? (Thread split)

I feel like if you are calculating a wizard's dpr you are doing it wrong. Wizards are meant to kill minions and control other enemies. If your goal is to deal damage, there is a whole other group of classes for that.

Help me build an auto-sleep wizard

I'm building a level 4 wizard. I'd like to hear any options out there that will help make saving throws more difficult for enemies, so that I can put them to Sleep. I've already got the Orb of Imposition. Any other ideas?

What are the "Essentials" line Adventure Path adventures?

I would say there is a very small amount of hand holding in the Harkenwold adventure. Things like "this is the first skill check of the adventure, so if you have never done a skill check before you should probably read up on them on page XX of the book that was included in this set". Also, I'd...

What are the "Essentials" line Adventure Path adventures?

The MV adventure suggests a hook if your group did the DM Kit adventure, but beyond the hook and the setting there is no connection.

What are the "Essentials" line Adventure Path adventures?

I just wrapped up the adventure from the DM Kit. It was my first time DMing. I think the group really enjoyed the adventure (Reavers of Harkenwold) and I know I did. My only complaint was the Battle of Albridge in the 2nd book. The players were ready for a really epic battle, not 3...
