D&D General [rant]The conservatism of D&D fans is exhausting.

So you're picking nits by purposefully using a ridiculous, extreme example? Not the best take unless you're just trying to score points, IMO.

Yes please, particularly the newer ones. I didn't buy into that Kickstarter.

D&D General Wearing a lantern on your belt?

Never said it was. My eras cover the ancient world to science fiction. I think I covered the mid 18th century in either the end of Renaissance or early in the next era (industrial in my system). Like I said, it's abstracted but granular enough for my purposes. Sorry if that's not good enough for...

Well I'm sorry, but my crew doesn't want to learn Rolemaster. Still a sim fan, somehow.

Awesome! Looking forward to it. I missed the Kickstarter, so obviously I'll have to pick up what I want separately. That's the sort of thing I was talking about anyway.

Please stop trying to trick people into liking narrative games. Is that kind of recruiting really necessary? Why can't you just accept people's personal feelings as they're stated?

Subsystems, hexcrawl-related stuff, downtime activities. More monsters are always cool. Maybe some setting stuff, if it is mechanized as needed (you know I'm a sim guy). The recent Warhammer-inspired supplement by @Fenris-77 was right up my alley.

Aren't there a ton of adventures, many of them low-priced or free, out already? Seems like we have plenty to choose from and likely not nearly time enough to even read them all, let alone play them. And with so many already extant examples, adjusting them or even making your own is IMO not too...

We Should Be More Critical of Our Criticisms

Yeah, horny dumbasses and emotional overreaction are the principle drivers of drama there, especially in BtVS. The stakes just go crazy because of the fantasy elements.

We Should Be More Critical of Our Criticisms

You know my answer there. It's "no".

D&D 5E (2024) The Undead Army Necromancer is not Designable

Me, of course, starting with an acceptable base. It's a DIY hobby, after all.

We Should Be More Critical of Our Criticisms

My wife and I are rewatching Buffy and Angel (much of it is brand new for her, actually), and I definitely found myself with some more understanding of and to a degree sympathy for the adult characters than I used to have. Of course,, the last time I did a full rewatch I didn't have a wife and...

The only way to know is to ask. Making assumptions won't cut it.

D&D 5E (2024) The Undead Army Necromancer is not Designable

Yes, to my mind and at my table. Rules people don't like can be ignored in their game. It's called, "optional".

    D&D General Do THIS, WotC!

Is being "fully mainstream" what we should be shooting for? I think there's a lot you lose when that's your goal, too much to lose for my comfort level. Also, DW and any version of D&D are completely different mechanically, so what does "DW, but D&D" even mean?

D&D General Wearing a lantern on your belt?

I deal with the historical availability of items by assigning each to a broad time period. That way, I can decide before the game begins what eras of item availability I want in that campaign deliberately. And of course, I'm happy to make adjustments when new information becomes available. This...

Still working on that Interplanar Hellport.

This why I preferred TSR's monster entries, particularly 2e's work. They didn't assume the only thing that mattered was combat.

It may not have to be, but I don't want to play D&D (or any edition or derivative) without it. Other people can play how they want.

D&D 5E (2024) The Undead Army Necromancer is not Designable

It's not a premise I hold to. Sounds like something cooked up by folks who don't like necromancers. Unless you're saying we're all supposed to agree with the OP? That doesn't seem right.
