    Trailer Superman Full Trailer

I think Morrus already made this point, but I just don't see Superman's ethics coming from his godlike perspective. I see them as coming from his adoptive parents, who have always been presented as completely salt-of-the-earth, this is right, this is wrong, kinds of folks. Like, he's completely...

Spoilers Star Wars: Andor season 2

Got around to watching episode 4. Vast improvement! Felt much more like Season 1.

    Marvel Television's Ironheart | Official Trailer | Disney+

That trailer actively irritated me. The "job interview" hook manages to be both a cliche and incredibly stupid, and the rest of it looks like predictable superhero plot, but we've tried to make it for the youth.

    Trailer Superman Full Trailer

See, I really liked this. My Superman is a massive Boy Scout. He dosn't really do shades of grey. He stopped a war, and those who have a problem for ideological reasons or whatever can go suck an egg. Ethically speaking, he's a hardcore deontologist. Snyder tried to give us the morally...

D&D General "Gamers" win Amazing Race Season 37!!!

Sigh. Okay, that is cool, but as a fan of the show who has to wait until it is on streaming, can you please not put massive spoilers in the title of a thread.

Yeah, it's kinda weird. Talk about the power of branding, I guess? I don't get it. Because, as this thread attests, it's not really a qualitative thing. Don't get me wrong, I really like D&D. I still play it all the time! But it's not incredibly superior to the competition; I bet everyone in...

Eberron: Forge of the Artificer to Be Priced at $29.99

I don't recall ever feeling like official D&D books were overpriced, in any edition. If anything, given the scale of their print runs, they might tend to underprice their books, putting pressure on competitors.

D&D General When We Were Wizards: Review of the Completed Podcast!

To put in context, I got paid $3.00/hour to start as a teenager at McDonalds just a couple years after that ('83). So...that's a pretty low wage! Edit: In fact, as I recall $3.60/hour was the minimum wage for 18 and older at that time, at least where I lived; we got paid less because there was...

D&D 5E (2014) The Tale of the First World: What Do We Know About it and How Does it Connect to the Rest of the Lore? (+)

Yes, and I am so there for it! I've been using her that way for a long time now, and Bahamat is kind of a chump in my setting, so this dovetails nicely.

Dungeons & Dragons Announces Horror Subclasses Unearthed Arcana

Giving them spiritual weapon would not be just another tool. It would define their approach to combat once it came online.

    Most influential RPG

This thread has me struggling to think of another genre that has been so dominated by a single product as TTRPGs have been dominated, from their inception to today, by D&D. There have been thousands of other games in the genre, many of the best cited in this thread, yet none have approached...

Eberron: Forge of the Artificer to Be Priced at $29.99

Back to the OP: $16.99 on DDB is a pretty great deal. That's not much more than I paid for a module when I started playing 45 years ago!

Eberron: Forge of the Artificer to Be Priced at $29.99

Yes, and don't forget the other likely reactions from some quarters, if WotC manages to release a version that completely removes all the slavery and eugenics elements: "WotC releases PG version of Dark Sun for crybabies." "This isn't Dark Sun." It's a lose-lose proposition for them. Best to...

Your most "visceral" experience at a movie theater.

The book is the single most traumatizing work of art I’ve ever experienced. My son was 3 and had just been diagnosed with autism when I read it, and it was overwhelmingly emotional. I had to invent a detailed alternate ending, which for me is canon, to cope with it. So I will never watch the...

D&D 5E (2024) You Can Now Pre-order Eberron: Forge of the Artificer

Disagree. Generic means “typical of its genre,” and it is a useful term. It means conventional, uncreative, not pushing boundaries, not particularly noteworthy in an aesthetic sense. Wheel of Time covers (and content) are great examples of generic post-Tolkien fantasy.

D&D General I wish people would avoid name-dropping Gary Gygax

Gygax didn’t just use ideas that were in the zeitgeist, though. Tons of 1e stuff was originally created for 0e, or contributed through letters, magazines, etc. and then rewritten by Gygax for 1e. Meaning specific rules, spells, monsters, even character classes. One of the primary purposes of...

D&D General The First Demise of TSR: Gygax's Folly

It really wasn't. Having the company you own publish games and books based on IP you own is not nepotism.

lol yeah standards have changed. I was maybe 10 when I saw Exorcist. Another film that gave me a visceral reaction, as an adult, was Lars von Trier’s Antichrist. I hated it but I’ve never forgotten it.

Your most "visceral" experience at a movie theater.

The opening shot of Star Wars. The first shot on Munchkinland in Wizard of Oz. Crucifix scene in The Exorcist. CHUD reveal in The Descent. “…tears in the rain.” Bladerunner. Final twist in The Ring. “this one goes to eleven” in Spinal Tap. Opening sequence of Clerks. Final charge of...

Fighting the Gray Tide (Miniature Painting)

Anyone tried this? I'd love to get some more in-depth feedback. I'm interestd in how long the pens last, how well they keep their tip through repeated uses, and whether you can blend the colours easily. They seem kind of gimmicky to me, but I'd love to be wrong.
