D&D General [rant]The conservatism of D&D fans is exhausting.

Now you see exactly my point. @Bedrockgames JUST stated that the majority of sandbox games prioritize setting fidelity. The notion of maintaining continuity and whatnot has been repeatedly stated as vitally important to sandboxes. And now you're telling me that setting fidelity is not all...

D&D General [rant]The conservatism of D&D fans is exhausting.

Ok. Great. If setting fidelity is pretty important to a particular definition of a sandbox, but not important in another definition of a sandbox, then it's fair to say that we cannot use setting fidelity to define sandboxes.

D&D General [rant]The conservatism of D&D fans is exhausting.

Back a bunch of pages, I got told in no uncertain terms that one of the strengths of sandbox games is how it can so easily adopt player input. Players want X in the game, it's easy peasy to add it in and not a problem. That was touted as one of the biggest strengths of sandbox play - how...

DIdn't you JUST give an example of how your world can't be changed by the player in response to his created character?

Spoilers Doctor Who s15 (or 2) [[spoilers!]]

Tell me about it. The last few years have had some of the best SF in the genre. Three Body Problem, The Expanse, Andor, The Last of Us, etc. It’s a good time to be a genre fan. Even in the latest incarnation, they’ve given us 73 Yards, Dot and Bubble, The Well. All excellent SF stories.

    D&D 5E (2014) Running several combats in a row

Is it totally unreasonable to allow short rests every three or four waves? It might take some time for the baddies to muster up the numbers for another assault, so, it's not totally unreasonable that short rests might be possible. After all, short rests do allow baddies to heal as well - don't...

Worlds Largest Dungeon Holds 'Secret Doors' Contest

Reading through that review, I'll just say that I disagree with quite a lot of it. One thing that caught my eye is that they use milestone leveling, and the reviewer absolutely loses his mind over it. Now? It's pretty common in a lot of modules. In 2005, this was cutting edge innovation...

    D&D 5E (2024) Line of sight ruling

There is some level of irony here when you combine this quote with the one immediately above it. :D If it's subjective and open to interpretation, then you cannot just say, "nope".

    D&D 5E (2024) Line of sight ruling

Nothing in "line of sight" refers to actively looking. Not in plain English.

    D&D 5E (2024) Line of sight ruling

That’s kinda the problem though. The sage advice pretty much says they are the same.

D&D 5E (2024) Should a general Adventurer class be created to represent the Everyman?

Meh. A 1e fighter with Unearthed Arcana or a 2e fighter out of the book had 2 weapon spec's at 1st level which a MASSIVELY more powerful than what a 5e fighter gets. ((1e gave you +3 to hit and damage and 50% more attacks, 2e gave you +1 to hit, +2 to damage and 50% more attacks)). Plus...

D&D 5E (2024) Should a general Adventurer class be created to represent the Everyman?

A 1st level fighter is the best at fighting of all the classes at that level. He has the most HP, can use the most weapons, by very early days, had weapon specialization, can wear any armor and shields. At no point in the history of the game has there ever been an "everyman" character class...

    D&D 5E (2024) Line of sight ruling

Ahhh, the joy of natural language. Sigh. While a strict reading of "line of sight" certainly supports the idea of being able to close your eyes, this is obviously a violation of the spirit of the rules. IOW, you are looking for specificity in a system where specificity has been rejected.

Worlds of Design: Magic, Magic Everywhere

Again, I dunno. Out of the Abyss isn't exactly rolling in magic items. Phandelver really doesn't have very many. Candlekeep Mysteries doesn't have a lot at all. I think it's a bit hit or miss honestly. I mean, I went through Decent into Avernus as a player and ended the entire campaign...

Worlds of Design: Magic, Magic Everywhere

/snip Nevermind My point was, that later modules have a LOT less magic items. Whic his very true. Most of the items listed above are consumables. And, are those lists from Adventurers League adventures or from teh modules themselves? For example, in the list I can find, there is exactly...

Spoilers Doctor Who s15 (or 2) [[spoilers!]]

Hang on a tick. Since when have gods not been real in Doctor Who? What exactly do you think the thing was in the bottom of "The Satan Pit"? Just as an easy example. Doctor Who has been chock a block with gods. "Seen as gods" and "actual gods" is a bit of pedantry that means nothing. The...
