I agree there. there was something about graduating to a higher level or color set of D&D that appealed to me. Of course I was back in school in those days...

I must disagree. While any rule can be considered a guideline, as presented on paper, 3e magic creation was cut, dried and smoked. Compared to previous editions there was no risk, no adventure involved, it's all academic.

Formulaic magic item creation was something I discussed with my friends on the way BACK from gencon. Cool I despised 3.x's handling of that subject and yearn for what is described above. A definite plus for 4e so far.

The problem is minor but it has to do with long running campaigns. Some people still do those. Tieflings started AFAIK in Planescape so for those who still use the setting this is pie. In the GH campaign like mine, tiefling characters can easily be accounted for given all the demonic influences...

When you ask people what's the first thing they think of when they hear Merlin, it's wizard. Elric its the sword Stormbringer. Whatever these characters have to do with half-demons and spirits is purely secondary or tertiary to the fiction. Bring tieflings as a base race just redefines a world...

Yes, but it's a staple of today's fantasy. Anime, TV shows and the like. If it was a staple of old school fantasy EGG would've had em I would think.

Terrible idea. Paizo pushed a tiefling iconic character in all the art for their Age of Worms AP. I guess they are the new drow? I missed that. Better tieflings in my campaign than warforged though. That would just cheapen Eberron. Unless Eberron becomes the default world, hmm....

No more Dragon, no more Dungeon, I got my last GH published book. Now 4e announced. I've never felt so liberated!

Excellent book. Insidious subplots. Good NPCs. A must buy. My only gripe is the linear storyline that dictates what order you explore the tower-dungeons in. I'm sure that will be a point of contention with my players and others out there.

The ending eh? Hmm. I figured a mod of that caliber would be open ended enough to not have a discernable 'ending.' I hope this disappointing ending doesn't have to do with a certain character I saw in the Wizards art gallery for the book.
