What fake gaming terminology does your group use?

if someone hits for a lot of damage, a popular taunt is "what does he(the victim) do...besides B.O.G. of course B.O.G. = bleed on ground

    Were MM1 monsters truly underpowered?

I have to be totally honest, I don't know what any of you are talking about. I've yet to have a problem with the "damage expressions" of any monster in mm1 or mm2, AND, I have 6 players in my game. I find it not a big deal taking one or more of them to 0hp whenever I want in "big fights" and...

    Actually, our opinion does matter.

reading the mile long posts in this thread, I came to recall a neat story from the then head of ABC Roone Alredge when asked about starting up Monday Night Football in 1970. Someone asked him "what about die hard football fans?" his answer blew me away, he said as serious as could be "F---...

Discouraging the 15 minute adventuring day

    Who creates your character backgrounds?

I think every DM meddles a little with pc's backgrounds some, it makes hooks way easier. "The orcs that raided this village are the same ones that raided your boyhood home" it never fails, the pc's are always "ok, lets go smash" and another page of character history is written. But to do a...

    I think I figured out 4th ed

do you find it easier to run low level 3e or lower games? because I simply said it was more difficult, not impossible. From a DM point of view I found that you have to pull your punches so to speak in the early levels, mostly ( but not entirely) due to a lack of hp.

    opportunity attacks

OK OK OK I know what the rule says, I am asking about the practicality (as much as d&d can be practical) of it. If you are fighting a guy in a bar, and a guy runs past you, and you decide to sly wrap him in the jaw, aren't you turning your attention away from the original guy you are...

Good 1st lvl modules for new DMs?

the orc stronghold from dungeon delve is simple and compact Kobold hall (dmg) is not so terrible for 1st level rookie DM's ---I am thinking you want a short one (or two) night adventure, right? because the DM can't make it THIS weekend.

    opportunity attacks

attacks of opportunity - in the following example, Bob and Jim are fighting monster a, Jim provokes an AO when he leaves the green square, but...does monster A provoke Bob if he makes the attack? if yes, why isn't that written down anywhere if no, why doesn't it, logically?

Trying to work around a DM's restriction

Not only does my table not allow magazine stuff, we don't allow things from a book that we as a group don't own two of. That said, if someone finds a power or spell or whatever, and want to use just that one thing, it's usually not a problem. The thing is, though, often times it gets to 'that...

    Tactical Encounter Problems

Yeah, I wasn't really hitting on the "all the time" part of the querry that said, I bet we can make a pretty long list of ways to stop the "jam the doorway" defense 1. beat em to the door 2. slide em away from the door 3. retreat further in, and make them come to you 4. have something pushing...

    Weem's "Grade your DM-skills" Challenge...

    Flaming Weapon Stealth Errata?

first off Kinneus - if you were at our table, and I was DM, I'd let you do it. second, it's been my experience that the 'cooler' a player thinks his "build" is, the lamer it actually is once its put in the game. (Not always ! ) It's one thing to be creative on the sheet, but another thing...

When did WotC D&D "Jump the Shark"?

i read this thread like 3 times trying hard to make sense out of it, I think I pulled my brain. I don't know if this is an anecdote or how big a ballpark it is, or anything like that, but I will tell you this....if i am NOT a shareholder of hasbro inc. why would I give a crap if 4E is behind...

A triple encounter? oh yes indeed!

also - don't be afraid to have your 'bosses' run a fight at the end featuring 5 on 5 (or less depending on how many actually live or not)
