    D&D 4E Let's Talk About 4E On Its Own Terms [+]

Psionics was one of the few disappointments I had with 4e (besides the Monk which is great). Augment might have been ok, but unlike other 4e powers you have to be very careful with the design. And they screwed up the at wills, at least with the Psion. I forget the names maybe Mind Thrust...

Level Up (A5E) Level Up A5E vs. WotC 5E...?

I like A5e a lot, but imo it's more about interesting options (for example for Fighters), customization, and filling in some white space in non-existent hand wavy rules from O5e. If you don't like some of the fundamental assumptions of O5e then I don't think A5e would help though. Fairly...

Pathfinder 2E Pathfinder 2nd Edition Legacy Bundle on Humble Bundle

Oh good to know. So the whole encounter design is out of whack (maps, # stacked in a row, etc.) and not just the monsters used? PF2e is easy to swap monsters, reskin, etc. which I don't mind. Just pull from AoN and paste into a doc. But if the story is bad or the whole encounter design is...

Pathfinder 2E Pathfinder 2nd Edition Legacy Bundle on Humble Bundle

Age of Ashes any good storywise, ignoring the mechanical issues? How would you compare to Strength of Thousands quality wise?

Pathfinder 2E Pathfinder 2nd Edition Legacy Bundle on Humble Bundle

Forgot about that. One of the strengths of PF2e is that you can easily adjust those core numbers, and it is a pretty good tweak of challenge (even leaving the kinds of abilities the same).

Pathfinder 2E Pathfinder 2nd Edition Legacy Bundle on Humble Bundle

Never got Age of Ashes. My understanding is it has serious overtuning/difficulty issues as it was the first released and the designers didn't know the system well. Is it otherwise a good AP? Could you start PCs at level 2 and have them a level ahead and mitigate this issue?

WotC Roll for Combat got to try the 3D vtt and he seems to like it. Live streaming now.

Yeah, I think it's a smart move. Not trying to be better at foundry or r20 in functionally, at least at the beginning. They can potentially add that stuff later, but I do think there is a niche for slick and easy to use map + miniatures.

Grade the Pathfinder 2E Game System

Yeah, I agree with that in principle but the execution is off in pf2e then. Scare to Death is fine -- new usage that is outside the mundane realm Survey Wildlife is not -- mundane use that seems like a key element of a Survival skill? Again, just give a +5 bonus so that someone with the feat...

Grade the Pathfinder 2E Game System

I don't like how they did the non combat skill feats. Way too specific and gatekeeping. SO, you mean I can't persuade 3 people at once without this feat? Or I can with a penalty or what (introducing ambiguity and DM work pf2e normally tries to avoid)? ' I houserule all those skill feats...

Grade the Pathfinder 2E Game System

Pluses: most power is in the core class features and can't be traded away through multi class or feat choices. encounter creation math that works playable levels 1-20 without completely falling apart classes mostly balanced with some outliers that aren't way off the charts lots of character...

Player Core and Gamemaster Core Remastered Review

Looks good in general for me. Don't have any big hates and some likes, some eh. But more of a 2.2e like Thomas said. I was hoping for a power up / more interesting Wizard but I can house rule it. Not worth buying new books for me, but everything will be on Archives of Nethys for free...

    D&D 4E Let's Talk About 4E On Its Own Terms [+]

This is definitely true. And it's actually a pretty common fantasy norm too. Even in Mirkwood and Moria it's not like there were constant back to back fights and monsters in every room, fighting every day, etc. 4e should have leaned more into only plot relevant big set pieces with lots of...

    D&D 5E (2014) The Fighter/Martial Problem (In Depth Ponderings)

As you mentioned the other option is to put in a game mechanic. You could say 1 long rest every 8 encounters, 2 shorts rests between long rests. You can put some in game fictional elements around why this happens. For instance, wizards need to be continuously thinking and solving equations...

    D&D 5E (2014) The Fighter/Martial Problem (In Depth Ponderings)

There's 2 things going on in D&D. One is that magic is too versatile, low cost, plentiful, and powerful all at once. As said, most fantasy magic has more limits. It doesn't leave a lot of space for non magic to shine. Second is that there are a few things D&D magic can't do (although there...

    D&D 5E (2014) The Fighter/Martial Problem (In Depth Ponderings)

People make way too much out of these surveys because they don't also have any data on the why. And the additional data we do have creates more questions than answers IMO. For instance, we know many survey people play at mostly lower levels. So, in the context of lower level play, the Fighter...

D&D 5E (2014) Should martial characters be mundane or supernatural?

Two thoughts. You can give martials more general abilties. Instead of taunt, it's "Make something attack me" -- you are crafty person and good at at all kinds of ways to taunt, trick, goad, intice, etc. enemies into attacking you. Effect is a given unless there really is no way at all to...

D&D General (+) Let's have a separate optional Mythic Martial class

I'm not opposed to this as an idea. But what do you see as the benefits over a x per day or x per short rest (5 min or 1 hr version)?

D&D General The Crab Bucket Fallacy

Yeah, I can buy that. People who liked D&D and fantasy in general were in positions of power to make these other media, which influenced a younger demographic (among other things). Tangent thought. One mystery for me -- I don't think I've ever seen a TV pop portrayal of D&D depict it 100%...

D&D General The Crab Bucket Fallacy

Not solely of course, but 5e did arrive in a good period to go more mainstream. Stranger Things, Community, Game of Thrones, super hero movies and comics considered cooler and more mainstream, some celebrities saying they play and the word getting out through social media, streaming, etc. I'm...

D&D General (+) Let's have a separate optional Mythic Martial class

Good idea to explore. And helps to simplify character gen as you pick mythic powers around a theme. That said, a little worried at complexity of implementation vs. just a standalone new class.
