    D&D 5E (2014) Factions in your game

I really like the idea of the factions, and I'll probably use them whenever I DM. I think that multiple power groups with their individual aims (which may or may not converge) makes for a more interesting background than a monolithic "Good Side" that is aligned with whoever is currently telling...

D&D 5E (2014) ideas for an attack on an airship / making the next adventure fun

Attacked by an airship full of Cultist casters. Attacked by maniacal druids on a nearby mountaintop, who rain lightning down upon the airship, which they see as an abomination to the natural world. Maybe make one of the wings break, and one of the PC's with high STR needs to make continual...

    D&D 5E (2014) Reach weapons: what's the drawback?

Maybe, for someone without the feat, a pole-arm deals 1d10 when the target is at 10', and 1d4 when the target is at 5'. Polearm Master makes you good enough that you can do both, at either range. A lot of the surviving images from the Fechtbuchs and other medieval manuals show a lot of...

    D&D 5E (2014) Reach weapons: what's the drawback?

I think Mouse is right. If every combat you get into is essentially "One medium melee creature per player, on an endless plain" the feats together would be broken. If your DM starts getting imaginative (or, logical) with the combat encounters, the feats would still be useful, but not OP.

    D&D 5E (2014) Reach weapons: what's the drawback?

In my current game, I'm playing a heavily armored sword and board fighter. The other martial is a half-orc barbarian with a pike to back up his great-axe. The amount of times I block a choke point, stabbing and holding the line while a raging barb pikes people in the face over my shoulder are...

    D&D 5E (2014) Red Hand of Doom

Anywhere I can read up on this online? Does Wizards make anything available from the previous editions?

    D&D 5E (2014) Fighters are amazing!

From reading this, it seems that the people who tend to like wizards don't like fighters, and want them to be different. The people who DO like fighters think the fighters are okay as they are, and don't really need to change. I move that we have another 16 pages of squabbling in order to...

    D&D 5E (2014) 101 Mercenary missions

"There are too many would be heroes about with nothing to occupy them. They're hassling barmaids, rummaging through the graveyard and generally making a nuisance of themselves. Go find or build a dungeon, fill it with traps. Collect monsters to staff it (capture them, hire them, BUILD them...

    D&D 5E (2014) 101 Mercenary missions

The population of The Kingdom becomes overcrowded and restive. The Kingdom desperately needs to expand it's territory and aquire access to new resources to pacify the common rabble. The Elven Kingdom nearby has plenty of good land they're barely using. We need YOU to incite anti-elf sentiment...

    D&D 5E (2014) 101 Mercenary missions

(Some City) has boiled over in civil unrest. There are riots in the streets, and ad-hoc militias are kidnapping and executing foreigners and noble families. You have been contracted to rescue (Some guy and his family). Infiltrate the city, make your way to (some guy's home, embassy, etc)...

    D&D 5E (2014) Fighters are amazing!

I've been rocking a Battlemaster Fighter; Defense style, Shield Master, Heavy Armor Master. Almost nothing hits me, what does get through gets blunted, and I wreak havoc on mobs of mooks. Maneuvers are damn good fun, as well. It's a good feeling knowing that you can support your team as more...

D&D 5E (2014) roleplaying the Oath of the Ancients

I see the Oath of the Ancients as a champion of the natural world; he;d probably be a lot more open about natural human behavior, like carousin', dancin', and casual romancin'. Honestly, when I read the paladin descriptons, I see them this way; Devotion: Monotheistic, Monastic outlook of...

D&D 5E (2014) The woes of the elf and his longsword

Same here. I'd rather build a character idea and play him or her as I've imagined him, than build some sort of bland Min-Maxenstein. Elves use longswords because they have always used longswords. Their culture fetishizes the weapon and they are tradition bound to master it. ( "The longsword...

    D&D 5E (2014) what would you play?

Aren't Dextrous and Acrobatic people essentially Jocks? Tanky builds don't have to be dumb. Hell, Socrates, Plato, and Isaac Newton were championship wrestlers.

    D&D 5E (2014) what would you play?

The half-orc barb isn't my character, he's my characters back-up. Out of combat, he's the wilderness dude. My character is a Human Fighter, with Noble background. Proficiencies in Persuasion and Intimidation, so he's often the back up 'face' of the party. Also acts like an arrogant dick, for...

    D&D 5E (2014) what would you play?

Straight-up Tank is surprisingly fun to play. Straight-up Tank Battlemaster, with Sentinel and Shield Master as feats, though, is the most fun you can have wearing pants. I regularly post up in narrow spaces, blocking and absorbing attacks from swarms of Mobs. Riposte any scrub that misses his...

    D&D 5E (2014) Creating a Lost/Ruined City

Here's something for inspiration. http://gakuran.com/gunkanjima-ruins-of-a-forbidden-island/ It's a small urbanized island, built around a coal mine. Once it stopped being economically viable, the inhabitants just got up and left. Also, a google image search for "aerial view ruins" turns up a...

D&D 5E (2014) Primeval Awareness and other hidden gems

I agree with both of these. The d4 attack doesn't have to be swinging with the butt end, but could be just swinging/clubbing with the shaft, which is feasible. The spear should definitely get the AoO.

D&D 5E (2014) Which edition easiest to adapt to 5e?

I'd imagine you could simply keep a 5E MM nearby and tone down the loot. Adventure paths are honestly just Storytime + Stat blocks. Just switch out the Stat Blocks. If you don't have an MM on hand, the Creature stats from the PHB, or the enemy ones from the Starter Set would go a long way. Just...
