    Darkvision Ruins Dungeon-Crawling

Actually, having someone next to me does help my vision though.

    Darkvision Ruins Dungeon-Crawling

I chose no, but that was a mistake, it definitely did have detrimental mistake on the type of dungeon crawl that's expected here. However, I think it's fine that that kind of dungeoncrawling is made less good. If most players and tables don't do this kind of thing anyways or makes sure that...

D&D General How Often Should a PC Die in D&D 5e?

I don't think that matters, or matters to them specifically. You're thinking Swamps aren't good places for lions but alligators are fine living in them,

D&D General How Often Should a PC Die in D&D 5e?

Here's my opinion on what the general D&D player populace wants: The world/game should be depicted as if they can die 60-70% chance of the time but in actuality the chances of dying without the player's explicit or implicit decision is 0%. It is an admission and allowance for the GM to lie...

D&D General How Often Should a PC Die in D&D 5e?

Well then get a Dam for that sadness. And the marketing works, because I want that specialness. And yes, Setting integrity is generally unimportant compared to the PCs

D&D 5E (2024) Help Me Hate Monks (Less Than I Currently Do)

Yeah so? I'm not seeing the issue here. The real issue is that it isn't based on a 00s or 10s TV show(anime specifically) at this day and age.

D&D 5E (2024) Help Me Hate Monks (Less Than I Currently Do)

Funnily enough, Ravenloft's premise basically allows non-fitting ancestries/classes--remember, you're not from Ravenloft you're forcibly transported into it by an evil mist, which means of course you're Aztecian inspired Lizardman now has to confront pitchfork wielding villagers from...

D&D 5E (2024) Help Me Hate Monks (Less Than I Currently Do)

I don't care that it was limited pre Age of Sail, History and 'realism' is a poor jester I trot out for only occasional entertainment in my games. I just have ninjas and monks in my games if the player wants it, and I'll play one if I want to in a ruleset that gives me the choice.

D&D 5E (2024) Help Me Hate Monks (Less Than I Currently Do)

I don't even need monastic orders to make a Monk, the two that I made just trained and now know how to dent steel with fist and paralyze people with a punch. You don't need magical schools to have a Wizard so I don't know why you'd have to make an Order for a monastic order.

D&D 5E (2024) Help Me Hate Monks (Less Than I Currently Do)

Worry not, the metaphysics of magic doesn't matter in 99% of games or products that WotC releases anyways. Amongst all the spells in the PHB, did any of it ever mention the weave? No, none of them do, so clearly the metaphyscis never mattered to anyone.

D&D 5E (2024) Help Me Hate Monks (Less Than I Currently Do)

I think this is the thing that makes Monk work for me and not for you. DnD is a kitchen sink setting to me, as in, if you play DnD(and it's ilk) you should accept that a lot of anachronism and... analocalism? will(and should IMO) happen. Ninjas should be hireable by evil kings in their...

Because Chaosmancer doesn't want to and has negative views on being a selfish prick duh.

D&D 5E (2014) The Illrigger: Why I hate this class and love what it could have been.

If I'm playing a warlock, I'd prefer if I'm already deep into it. And I despise this consistency, Make every subclass level 1.

D&D General Why Do You Prefer a Medieval Milieu For D&D? +

I no longer believe this, because I've played multi-million dollar games where people get shot repeatedly.

D&D General How Often Should a PC Die in D&D 5e?

If death must be so important, then I'll always just play Jimbo. Wizard? Jimbo. Rogue? Jimbo. Warlock? Jimbo. Always the same person, sure he died but he's back.

    D&D General Let's list/complain about things we don't like

Because it put into words something I've always felt was true--the Neotrad part especially, can't judge the LARP stuff--and helps explain my own preferences and history. While I wasn't big into Forum RP I was very close to places in those things back in the day and the connection between them is...

Grittiness and Lethality in Game Combat vs in Read-Only Fiction

Does it have to though? You could have the game rules literally say 'Your character can't die unless you choose to, they suffer narrative setbacks instead' Or I dunno, a lives system. Or literally retcon a TPK or death. Or have the game and table 'carefully'(or even loudly say) make sure that...

Grittiness and Lethality in Game Combat vs in Read-Only Fiction

People might not like to hear it but DnD has very much created it's own 'genre' marks in Fantasy as a whole. Hp is 'meant' to be a mix of luck and stamine but what players actually see is 'I can get hit by a fist the size of a truck and I'd need to take a breather after that, maybe.' and this...
