    D&D 5E (2014) L&L 1/13/14: Low-Level Characters in D&D Next

I disagree, with bounded accuracy there isn't a big difference with to hit chances between 1st and 3rd and the fact that no one gets a feat at 3rd level (iirc) means that the actual difference is small, couple that with the fact that the new players get to see the class mechanics of the other...

    D&D 5E (2014) L&L 1/13/14: Low-Level Characters in D&D Next

1st to 3rd is 950 XP, 3rd to 4th require 1300 XP, so I think that no matter what the new guys will catch up, throw in some interesting side quests for them and they won't even remain behind the rest of the group for long. Thats what I'd do anyway. Warder

    D&D 5E (2014) L&L 1/13/14: Low-Level Characters in D&D Next

Sure it is, the new players start at 1st and the experience players start a 3rd, the amount of experience needed to reach 3rd level is such that even one session will cause the new players to catch up with the experienced players. Warder

D&D 5E (2014) Did the Next playtest focus on DM skills at all?

So if I'm getting this straight, you judge 5e modules based on a poorly written 4e one? I'm confused. Warder

D&D 5E (2014) Ghosts of Dragonspear Castle - what did you think?

Well, apparently, each game session in pandragon should be one year in game time so there's that. But I think that the concept is neat and it's something they flirted with on MiBG to a degree. Warder

D&D 5E (2014) Ghosts of Dragonspear Castle - what did you think?

How about something like the Great Pendragon Campaign? it basically tells you what happened every year and let the DM roll with that, you could have an entire AP written like that. Warder

D&D 5E (2014) Ghosts of Dragonspear Castle - what did you think?

Agreed, in that case I strongly suggest that you'll take a look at Murder in Baldur's Gate and Legacy of the Crystal Shard, they both tell a story but it remain in the hands of the PCs and the DM to write the chapters of that story. Ghost of Dragonspear Castle is the kind of mini campaign...

D&D 5E (2014) Ghosts of Dragonspear Castle - what did you think?

There is no generation gap mate, I fully understand what you are saying, but i disagree (btw, I've been playing since 1990 and stated with the black box+rules cyclopedia) but what you are describing is your own homemade adventure, i'm talking about a published adventure. I've read many 1e...

D&D 5E (2014) Ghosts of Dragonspear Castle - what did you think?

I understand you now, you are correct in saying that a well laid out adventure is a must, but I don't think that you can realy run an adventure by only reading the summery unless it is in a delve format... Warder

D&D 5E (2014) Ghosts of Dragonspear Castle - what did you think?

Only of the adventure you are running is in a delve format, simply going from one encounter to another is easy, but if I wanted a game that is solely about encounters I would have played decent. A good adventure, be it a dungeon, wilderness or an epic quest to save humanity, is a living...

D&D 5E (2014) Next D&D Next Adventure Scourge of Sword Coast will be PDF Only

What the hell? Why does this immenent D&D death posts keep creeping up every couple of months? So the adventure will be sold online, so what? It won't kill the game, we already knew that they are using the sundering adventures to test some new concepts in adventure design and distribution and I...

    D&D 5E (2014) Wondering Monsters 12/12/13: Mapping the World

So just divide the squares into quarters, and we both get what we want. Speaking of maps, I realy love those maps that are more like a painting of the rooms, with beds, tables, fire pits etc shown directly on it. Warder

    D&D 5E (2014) Wondering Monsters 12/12/13: Mapping the World

This week James talk about maps and the scale of D&D worlds: http://wizards.com/dnd/Article.aspx?x=dnd/4wand/20131211 I like this article, I think that good maps are one of the most essential parts of the game, a good map will help the DM and players know where they are and what's around them...

    D&D 5E (2014) Against the Slave Lords/Dungeons of dread books...or another module/campaign?

Firstly, congrats and welcome! I recommend that you try running the sundering adventures, especially if your group liked Ghost of Dragonspear Castle, it will be a challenge for you as a DM but if you don't care about the encounters format of each session being 2 hours than it shouldn't be that...
