    D&D 5E (2014) Binder Class Interest Check?

I would stick with Invocation. That's an accurate word for what the Binder does, and obeys the KISS rule by keeping the terminology familiar. Lesser Key and Greater Key are great names for the specific Invocations, though! Yeah. Hot swapping vestiges was not the core of the Binder class, but...

    D&D 5E (2014) How to play a Str Cleric

Basically, don't think of it as damage. Think of it as forcing enemies to make bad choices. Attack you? Disadvantage! Attack someone else? Have to burn through regenerating THP. Move away? BB or Sentinel.

    D&D 5E (2014) How to play a Str Cleric

Strength Clerics work well with the usual suspects: Sentinel, PAM, or Warcaster with BB and/or GFB. You don't need any of those to have a good time, but they have considerable synergy. Tasha's messed with the Spell Sniper reach combination, so that narrows things down slightly, but not much...

    D&D 5E (2014) Binder Class Interest Check?

A modal invocation system would probably work well for a Binder class. Something that lets you swap between "active" soul binds, and eventually gain the ability to have more than one "active" soul bind at certain levels (11th, etc). You can even use small invocation trees, like: Vestige of the...

D&D 5E (2014) Soulknife Knack problems (Is it incredibly powerful?)

I would never handle it that way at my table. I'm just trying to help you understand RAW. Remember, your concern was both how we (as DMs) would handle this, and/or asking if you were reading it wrong.

    D&D General Hive Mind Evil?

I agree. Ants are downright inventive in a large scale sense, and are capable of building sprawling empires larger than actual nations. Just drawing on real life ants, there are a number of things they actively do that would be considered abhorrent and evil by our standards, and the standards of...

D&D 5E (2014) Soulknife Knack problems (Is it incredibly powerful?)

No, you don't get to know if you failed an ability check. How you square that with your DM will vary. The only advantage you have is that you can apply the knack if you failed, which implies that the DM might narrate what seems to be a failure to you and you may then ask to apply the knack...

D&D 5E (2014) Soulknife Knack problems (Is it incredibly powerful?)

"Make an insight check." "This is important to my character, so I use the knack if I fail." "Got it. Go ahead and roll."

D&D 5E (2014) Twilight Sanctuary vs Magical Darkness?

I rule they overlap without being dispelled. Twilight Sanctuary is not "created by a spell of 2nd level or lower" so nothing is dispelled. Seeing things in twilight is not necessary for the Temp HP / Charmed / Frightened effect. So you end up with a sphere of magical darkness that cannot be seen...

D&D 5E (2014) Question before Curse of Strahd

The only mounted combat that might be generally useful in CoS is a small character riding something medium. There are quite a few large enemies, but far far more medium enemies.

Can you shoot a bow and wear a shield at the same time?

This is my vote. There are documented examples of people using small shields strapped to the arm while firing a bow. If they can do it, mildly superhuman characters that can lift thousands of lbs or turn into dragons can do it. But you should gain no AC benefit on the round the bow is used.

    D&D 5E (2014) Ranger Rating Thread

Beast Master (with the new beast rules) Hunter Gloom Stalker Horizon Walker Swarm Keeper Fey Wanderer Monster Slayer 1-3 are pretty close. 4-5 are middle ground. 6-7 are downright weak. Also, not helping track people like the UA version.

D&D 5E (2014) Are proficiency swaps too strong for some races?

Creative tool use is an easy way to get Advantage, which is mostly a positive and thus not really an issue. It only becomes an issue when a player is fishing too hard to use their tools. But that's a player expectation issue, and not a too-many tools issue.

D&D 5E (2014) My Favorite Player Options From Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything

If I am reading it right, the extra attack does not seem contingent upon using your off-hand. The claws are not light weapons, so you need the feat to make an off-hand attack with your bonus action. Since Form of the Beast creates TWO claws, an unarmed person could make that fourth attack with...

D&D 5E (2014) Str or Dex for Twilight Cleric

Strength. Being able to carry a lot AND FLY is pretty invaluable in the exploration pillar. Being stealthy and flying is also pretty useful, of course. But nothing like being able to carry multiple party members while you fly around.

It seems like you can make 4 attacks with Form of the Beast (Claws) if you have the Dual Wielder feat.

D&D 5E (2014) Booming Blade and Green-Flame Blade Nerfed in TCoE

I heard lots of screaming from lots of people about those cantrips and reach weapons. Luckily there was a cludgy half-solution in Spell Sniper, which anyone could take if they had a single cantrip.

    D&D 5E (2014) Tasha’s cauldron character thread

I like to use 10 minute short rests. Long enough to take a Short Rest OR cast a Ritual, OR force the party to make a tactical choice to take 20 minutes so the ritual casters can get a short rest also. 2 Short Rests per day. Soooometimes you find a really peaceful spot and get to take a Short...
