D&D General When did araneas become shapechangers?

    Hundreds of years ago.

D&D 5E (2014) Should the Hexblade Patron be Banned?

That would certainly be nice! But it wouldn't be an update to the PHB. It would count as your +1 in AL, not be allowed by splat adverse DMs, and not tweaking the PHB will continue to make new players have the same concerns.

D&D 5E (2014) Should the Hexblade Patron be Banned?

This. I understand they are extremely reluctant to update the PHB classes, but it's absolutely time to tweak a few. Sorcerer, Ranger, Pact of the Blade, etc. I never really had a problem with warlock spell slots being used for smites. It creates a few moments of awesomeness for the player...

D&D 5E (2014) Should the Hexblade Patron be Banned?

No fight here. I can make a compelling narrative out of almost anything (probably because I DM most of the time). So what's left? Compelling mechanics! That's coincidentally a positive thing, since I'm a powergamer who love optimizing my characters for the sheer enjoyment of it. It's like...

D&D 5E (2014) What Shall El Zardo Play?

Bear Totem Barbarian Bearfolk. Absolutely. OR Any other race cursed by a hag to become a bear. There are multiple myths of people turned into bears, so this has precedent.

D&D 5E (2014) Should the Hexblade Patron be Banned?

I definitely agree that the DM should also be having fun. Of course, the reason why anyone is not having fun can have different impacts on everyone else. I've seen everything from "I don't know, it just feels off" to "it doesn't fit in my setting" to "she trivializes my encounters" to "he keeps...

D&D 5E (2014) Should the Hexblade Patron be Banned?

Optimization is quite fun for many people. If my player is having fun, and not making things uncomfortable for anyone else, I'm going to let her do it. As a bonus prize, most optimization can make sense for the character.

    D&D 5E (2014) Defeat Orcus

Orcus can certainly be killed. The real question is how many adventurers, at what level, and what magic items would it take? Most parties could not pull it off.

    D&D General Baldur's Gate 3 Early Access

Breaking news. Larian discovers players create very bland characters. Stay tuned for next update where we discover most players pick human fighter. 🤣

    D&D General Baldur's Gate 3 Early Access

Historically, Larian does. In fact, they do both. Which hilariously rewards doing all the quests then killing everyone.

    D&D 5E (2014) Mythological Figures: Hel

If you want to beef up her defenses slightly while staying "PCish", you could give her Gnome Cunning. Even putting aside her divinity, no part of her ancestry is human.

    D&D General Baldur's Gate 3 Early Access

I'm actually surprised how well BG3 runs on a potato laptop. Not perfectly, but it's clear they made an effort to keep the game accessible to a wide variety of computers. As for the game, it actually looks really promising from what I've played. It's possible the game will have the same issues...

D&D General Who coined the phrase "murder hobo"

Definitely used it during the days of AD&D. Both murder and hobo would be pretty common things to attribute to adventurers, so it's probably independent discovery by many different people/groups.

    D&D 5E (2014) Interrupting rests

Are there any short-rest abilities that do not refresh on a long-rest?

    D&D 5E (2014) Bad Sage Advice?

My favorite explanation for Barkskin was lazy fey spirits. They only work as hard as they need to reach 16AC, then slack off. I don't remember who first came up with the idea, but it's stuck with me ever since.

    D&D 5E (2014) Interrupting rests

Of course. But it helps to have an IC rationalization for game balance mechanics.

    D&D 5E (2014) Interrupting rests

It's practically a requirement for Soldiers, Nurses, Truckers, etc. Granted, it can take a while to acclimate to sleep/activity/sleep, and the long term health effects are not appealing. I fall into the same camp, though I do fuss about taking two long rests close together. Not to the point of...

    D&D 5E (2014) New Errata & Advice For D&D Issued

I go the other way. Unarmed Strikes should be a finesse weapon. Magic/Holy Weapon on your fists is dripping with Rule of Cool. And a Monk/Rogue should be able to Judo Chop.

    D&D 5E (2014) The Strongest Poisoner. New Tasha's Gish

I'm just imagining this character stabbing people in the mouth to trigger all those Ingested poisons. Otherwise, those gold prices get pretty nuts. I would much rather build a trading empire or impressive fortress.

    D&D 5E (2014) Epic Monsters: Odin

I assume the terrible stories of many gods are just "that one time they flipped out" and that most of the time they go about their business like normal. Apollo is a great example of a god that sometimes gets petty vengeance, but seems to be mellow most of the time. Of course, some gods are...
