DDAL DMG Guidance new as Nov 12

You can play AL using the Free Rules. While that doesn't mean anything towards your second clause, it does mean that there's no requirement to own the PHB But, also. My players haven't even noticed me running monsters using 2024 rules (or ToV). 5e is so soft. It's a goo that makes "lacks...

D&D 5E (2024) Free Rules Updated with DMG content.

Plot points aren't a script. Scripts and outlines happen in an order. Claiming plot points are a railroad redefines railroading to include things like driving a car to seven different places that aren't linear.

Plot points aren't a railroad. They don't have an order to happen in. They don't even need to happen at all.

    D&D 5E (2024) Uncommon items - actually common?

Yes you do. Because you played basic D&D designed by Gygax, et al, just like I did. There was never an assumption that every single rule for players was applicable for every NPC just like there was never an assumption that every single rule for monsters meant that PCs could do that thing too...

    D&D 5E (2024) Uncommon items - actually common?

Yep! It's not like NPCs in the edition are built with player-facing rules. Why would we assume that the cities they occupy are?

    D&D 5E (2024) Uncommon items - actually common?

Player facing rules are meant for players and their characters, not a worldbuilding conceit meant for the 7th grandparent of an NPC

D&D 5E (2024) Table of Contents for Dungeon Masters Guide Leaked

The evidence is clear. And it's not that the book is merely new and shiny, because there have been dozens of new shiny books. This PHB is outselling many of those in total, already. It is possible that it is already in the top 10 of all time (bookscan era).

WotC D&D's Christopher Perkins Promoted to Creative Director

Sorry I'm not going to search for many years old tweets to satisfy your desires. But if you think that D&D had no changes by choice over a decade long period it will be impossible to satisfy you no matter the evidence.

WotC D&D's Christopher Perkins Promoted to Creative Director

Because when Stewart was there he talked about working on BG3 and Honor Among Thieves both, as he was the head of franchise -- the purpose of his role was to work on those projects. What did happen is that nearly everyone who worked with Llarian is gone. They were not all laid off. Some...

He worked with Nathan Stewart, who left on his own to go into video games full time. Stewart wasn't fired. This lone example shows that Vincke's statement is an exaggeration.
