Owner pushed back why? What makes you think this had no impact on finding work, did you stay connected to everyone? And yes, this is not the early days of the internet anymore. Rules are generally applied after bad things happen.

Game tester and console tester. And I have been credited for it. When they missed adding people to credits, people got quite mad until it was fixed. Notably, one of the companies I tested for no longer exists, so the only proof I have is the credit

I worked in the games industry, am a member of the IGDA, spent part of my weekend at a gathering of ~100 game devs, and have been paying attention to the games and art industry since the early 90s.

In 2024 it is expected that anyone who contributes to a game has a credit. Anyone who lacks this credit goes to the bottom of the stack.

Break down what part? Art history? The patron system? Why pottery and other goods get stamped? An example like Atari not giving credit to keep power over their employees until 1983? Plagerism and claims of having been the creator of someone else's work? Companies refusing to acknowledge...

I also strongly advise anyone who thinks all industries should simply work the same spend time with people in those industries, including people of different ages, degrees of experience, and locations. We are all prone to thinking our perspective is the default, but reality is so much more...

Ultimately, credits are a benefit that creatives have fought for and demanded for literally thousands of years. Trying to take that credit away has always been a move to disempower or otherwise negatively effect the artist. Artists don't need a worse situation.

Five years of experience got me a two hour interview process for an app testing job. The rigor is there for plenty.

All the other industries struggle to find good people because they can't easily verify work. It's part of why some companies have four hour interviews and interview circuits.

The reverse question is more useful: Why are people not given credits for their contribution to other things? Generally because it's impossible to view their contribution to begin with. I've helped install equipment in a hospital ER, but you're not able to go into the hospital to examine how...

Companies don't always respond to inquiries, if they even continue to exist. TSR, for example, is not going to return a call.

A company will usually do positive things and then disclose them and get praise. For example, Nintendo is very vocal when their top level takes paycuts to avoid layoffs. When a company does something like this quietly it's generally because it is not praise-worthy. If you assume it's boo-worthy...

When it comes to a corporation with a dubious history, it is generally best to assume a negative until they prove otherwise. If it is a negative, and you assume neutral or positive, they have every incentive to hide it from you.

D&D General Shocked how hard it is to get new players now-a-days

As has been said location has a big impact. Here in Seattle you can find people for D&D, Pathfinder, and other games pretty easily. There are Meetup groups and Discords to organize games, and the local gaming spots also frequently have good food and drink. It's still work to get a consistent...

Paizo How to Get Started with Pathfinder

As of the recent revision, Pathfinder's books work about the same as D&D's. There are three basic books to get: Player Core, GM Core, and Monster Core. The revision was mostly to de-D&D the game, so while they are updating the rules the older 2nd edition rules still work, so most of the other...
