D&D 5E (2024) What Should a Psion Be Able To Do?

The entire game is "magic" by that usage. Every class and darned near every monster does impossible things. Dispel Magic should vaporize everything.

D&D 5E (2024) What Should a Psion Be Able To Do?

Kitchen sink fantasy was fairly common on the pulp days. Lots of barbarians and blasters etc. Lots of mutants vs. magic, to boot.

D&D 5E (2024) What Should a Psion Be Able To Do?

Pyrokinesis seems like it would be good for a new "wilder" class that's basically "cursed psionics" a bit like a psi version if Pathfinder's oracles. Also a good place for the abberation-touched flavor.

D&D 5E (2024) Psionics: What Do You Want?

    My favorite sorceror is Wolverine.

D&D 5E (2024) Psionics: What Do You Want?

If you want to get picky about it "magic" is basically just "weird nerd stuff" in a setting not matching real world physics. Aspirin and fireballs and telepathy are equally magic. Pain relief, from tree bark!? Absurd!

    ...this is fantasy fiction.

D&D 5E (2024) Psionics: What Do You Want?

Should there be? Psionics extends the bleeding edge of the possible, magic does the impossible. A sufficiently high spell should be able to replicate a psionic ability, but a psion can do it all day and with more refined precision.

D&D 5E (2024) What Should a Psion Be Able To Do?

Psychic pyrokinesis is a very popular trope, but I feel it needs to cordoned off a bit to keep its flavor. It's often a very curse-like ability beyond the cantrip level.

D&D 5E (2024) Psionics: What Do You Want?

My take: Telekinesis and telepathy are the core gotta-haves when it comes to psionics. Secondarily you have body manipulation and extrasensory powers. After that you get into more directly mystic things like translocation and temporal distortion including pulling in astral entiries and...

D&D 5E (2024) Psionics: What Do You Want?

If I were to build a psionics system today I'd lean closer to Pathfinder 2E's kineticists with power points replacing their aura yo-yo balancing act. One or two core disciplines, the option to expand or focus, lower raw power in exchange for constant access, and builds that may rely heavily on...

    PaizoCon 2025 Keynote Recap

I think there's plenty you can glean from the system. It's mostly a matter of uneven outcomes, the fact that Mythic is more like Mythic Moments than Continuously Mythic, and stuff like "Mythic Resilience (1st): The creature treats its saving throws with the associated save as one degree of...

    PaizoCon 2025 Keynote Recap

You can see them here: Mythic Rules - Rules - Archives of Nethys: Pathfinder 2nd Edition Database They're fairly controversial and not super well-received as-is. Notably the mythic rules don't give much for kineticists to work with because they work outside of the strikes and spells paradigm.

D&D Debuts Playtest for Psion Class

With the whole "magic" thing it's important to understand the context that psionics are based on the idea that people are not using their full potential, and that the natural world is stranger than we think *before" factoring in magic. It helps to imagine the extreme things real people have...

D&D 5E (2024) Psionics: What Do You Want?

From a profit perspective, WotC really needs for there to be a popular cartoon or YA series featuring psychic powers, and to borrow from that.

D&D Debuts Playtest for Psion Class

In 2E, psionics were a middle step between martial and caster. Psionics were weaker and had less variety than magic, because they were using the effort of a creature and not tapping the power of a plane or deity. Their advantages were in that few creatures had defenses against them and the...

D&D Debuts Playtest for Psion Class

I will not yuck anyone's yum, and I'm out of edition anyone so my opinion is moot, but I did have to turn off the video about the fourth time they said Magic.

    D&D 5E (2024) Guess the next 3rd party D&D Beyond book.

Fool's Gold: Into the Bellowing Wilds seems likely. $2,479,888 KS plus a long-running YouTube semi-animated retelling series. Already have a Hero Forge ancestry/species too.
