Pathfinder 2E Never give up on PF2

I won't get into the irony of that because nobody needs more edition wars, but suffice it to say I was more focused on good game design than whether or not it reminds me of another geek tribe. PF2E is even better design than 4E (powers auto-scale!), so it gets my attention. It's not flawless by...

    Paizo Finding a class

Take it from someone who literally goes to goth picnics, there's no narrow definition there that will lead to a class unless you're aiming to lean into cliche stereotypes. Think of what you want to do and how you want to do it and then apply the personality as a lens to guide it.

Pathfinder 2E Never give up on PF2

Plenty of folks in various positions. I'm an old D&D 2E-4E player and DM who converted to PF2E after a lengthy hiatus from RPGs and rejection of 5E. I'm still getting my sea legs via PFS but will inevitably be GMing when that gets too rote.

D&D 5E (2024) Early access to 2024 books in DnDBeyond is tied to subscription tier.

FOMO is specifically preying on non-rational personality traits. Rationally it's completely meaningless and doesn't make sense as a perk to begin with.

D&D 5E (2024) Early access to 2024 books in DnDBeyond is tied to subscription tier.

Unfortunately FOMO is leveraged in a predatory way by many companies, and a good chunk of the population is subject to it and reinforce it, so it's going to be a constant presence even for those of us lucky enough to be largely immune to it.

I propose it would be more helpful to stick to entertainment products as comparisons rather than getting morbid about it.

D&D 5E (2024) Early access to 2024 books in DnDBeyond is tied to subscription tier.

That is a pretty standard part of the tier strategy, and is a typical hook. You see plenty of the same with streaming and video games. Eventually you realize that it's not that you're getting Early Access, everyone else is just getting Delayed Access. Edit: To be clear, I'm not here to yuck...

D&D 5E (2024) Early access to 2024 books in DnDBeyond is tied to subscription tier.

A general issue with tier systems is that they give companies more levers for increasing prices or degrading default quality. While there is obviously a need to increase baseline prices over time due to rising costs, tier systems are how you end up with ads in everything unless you pay an...

Pathfinder 2E Preview of Pathfinder Player Core 2 and New Champion Class

No evil PCs for Pathfinder Society because creepers in game stores, go nuts in your home game. The rules support evil PCs well, with unholy options etc.

Pathfinder 2E I think I am giving up on PF2ER

Completely legitimate to have a preference for certain amounts of nuance, detail, and range of consequence. There's a lot of hyper-granular stuff I wouldn't want to bother with, and I don't like systems that can be cracked wide open leading to one-hit bosses by default. PF2E happens to fall in...

Pathfinder 2E I think I am giving up on PF2ER

Barely anything has OAs, this isn't 4E. The game puts everyone in a small AC range specifically so it won't be a big deal. Use it as a skirmisher instead of a tank.

Pathfinder 2E I think I am giving up on PF2ER

You have medium armor proficiency. You can give and exploit vulnerabilities. With the Mirror, you can basically flank at will, you can extend your melee 15 feet, and AOEs only hit you once. You can basically teleport with it, including over a pit or up a cliff.

D&D General (SPOILERS for Vecna: Eve of Ruin) Are My Standards Too High for Adventures?

An adventure is a creative work; a very particular form of writing. Creative works can be influenced for better or worse by a company system, but fundamentally you need solid creatives expressing interesting ideas with effective execution. Unfortunately, an anniversary celebration is all about...

Pathfinder 2E Never give up on PF2

Yep. It's generally not interesting to roll for something easy. Rolling to see if you can find candy in the candy store at level 20 just isn't worth it.

Pathfinder 2E Preview of Pathfinder Player Core 2 and New Champion Class

So anyway, this update is getting folks excited. The improved flexibility from removing alignment restrictions should be interesting, and folks seem especially interested in how this might expand the deities the champions can follow.

Pathfinder 2E I think I am giving up on PF2ER

Defenders aren't specifically intended to be hit, they're there to ruin the efficiency of enemy offense. A defender that is never targeted but still prevents enemy attacks from hitting their allies either through deflection, ablation, or by causing massive damage is doing just fine.

Pathfinder 2E I think I am giving up on PF2ER

Worst case scenario a champion gets to use their reaction round after round and act with impunity, giving their allies whatever bonuses and doing damage as they will. For example, the Paladin's reaction: Trigger: Enemy damages ally within 15 feet of you. Effect: Ally gains resistance the...

Pathfinder 2E I think I am giving up on PF2ER

Sometimes a game just doesn't click for an individual or group, and that's okay. I find PF2E so intuitive that I was able to switch to it effortlessly after decades of only D&D without a hitch, and my roleplay is only ever constrained by the fact our PFS games have to end when the store closes.

Pathfinder 2E I think I am giving up on PF2ER

Pathfinder has some sub-optimal options, but you'd still need to put effort into picking them. Single-classed characters work great. CharOp is not king in PF2E.

Pathfinder 2E I think I am giving up on PF2ER

Yeah, it seems like those might fit your playstyle better, though TSR only works until you can get cure wands, and had random meaningless encounters constantly.
