D&D 5E (2014) Invsibility vs Cloak of Elvenkind

Have another wrench. Cloak of Elvenkind still gives you advantage on stealth checks when the things you are trying to hide from would be detecting you by sound or smell.

Unearthed Arcana 5E Psionics Alert! The Mystic Is Back In Unearthed Arcana

Man, the reaction here is a lot less vitriolic than I was expecting. Maybe I can relax here a bit before going back to Reddit. I dig the mystic. I like the themes they're going for, I like the fact that you can use a single class to build a very large variety of character concepts, I like...

D&D 5E (2014) Do you love Awesome Names?

I have, in my portfolio, one Dwarf Wizard by the name of Professor Orion Ironbrew. That name is my crowning achievement because it contains two metallurgy puns for a total of three references to metal. I also proudly have a Triton Bard in the works named Ray Pierre. That's a three-fold pun.

    D&D 5E (2014) Grappling Questions

Of course, grappling a prone creature may not necessarily require you to get prone yourself.

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana Mass Combat

If I were to hazard a guess, I'd say they went with 1 minute in order to integrate with player-scale combat more effectively. If you have the PCs fighting in a Critical Scene in the middle of a giant battle, then every 10 rounds you can check up on how the whole battle is going and have the...

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana: Wizards & Warlocks -- Hexblades, Raven Queens, and Lore Mastery!

I think Hexblade missed the mark. At first glance, the patron seems like it was made with melee warlocks in mind. But the Hexblade Curse works with all attacks. Which means that Eldritch Blast spam is still a better option for Hexblade than actual blades. I think if Wizards made it so the...

    D&D 5E (2014) Revised beastmaster ranger damage...

What if the proficiency bonus to damage rolls was removed? That seems like a better idea to me, and the ability to give the companion ASIs makes the bonus redundant IMO.

D&D 5E (2014) What are the optimal construct choices for the UA Artificer

This is literally the only thing that can make me excited about this feature. A mechanical beast is one thing, but a magitech-powered suit of armor is another entirely.

D&D 5E (2014) Capricious Home Rules and DM Pet Peeves

You say you don't mean any offense, but the picture you paint of me isn't exactly flattering. Furthermore, I don't recall much effort on your part to understand my position. From my perspective, you joined the conversation by immediately telling me my interpretation of the rules was wrong...

D&D 5E (2014) Capricious Home Rules and DM Pet Peeves

Everybody says 'rule 0' but will obviously still argue with people exercising it, myself included. This entire thread is a testament to that. Also, why are you the one invoking rule 0 when I'm the one defending my use of it?

D&D 5E (2014) Capricious Home Rules and DM Pet Peeves

You should have just lead with this instead of wasting both our time trying to convince me that an inconsistent ruling is the most correct one.

D&D 5E (2014) Capricious Home Rules and DM Pet Peeves

The two would seem to be contradictory in this instance, and would seem to allow the Conjure X spells to work through cover as it would not then be the location that would be targeted, but whatever you're summoning to that location. This seems to be counter to the philosophy presented in the...

D&D 5E (2014) Capricious Home Rules and DM Pet Peeves

Crawford says otherwise in that podcast I keep mentioning, but that is neither here nor there.

D&D 5E (2014) Capricious Home Rules and DM Pet Peeves

In the podcast at 12:35, Crawford says that if a spell says to choose something (a creature, object, a point in space), whatever you choose is that spell's target. That's why I say that teleportation spells target the location, because it's the only thing in the spell you choose. Bring it up...

D&D 5E (2014) Capricious Home Rules and DM Pet Peeves

I'm not here to argue, just to point out a rule I do not like because I am capricious and peeved. Listen to the podcast I linked in my first post. The logic I am presenting comes from none other than Jeremy Crawford himself. Take it up with him.

D&D 5E (2014) Capricious Home Rules and DM Pet Peeves

EXACTLY! "Clear Path to Target" as a general rule is dumb and confusing and it makes things actually simpler to just remove it as a general rule and instead decide how cover interacts with each spell individually.

D&D 5E (2014) Capricious Home Rules and DM Pet Peeves

Sure. Basically, the Clear Path to Target rule says that you need an unobstructed line from you to the target. It can't be behind total cover. This is to stop spells like Conjure Animals from conjuring a bear from the otherside of a window, or to stop Hold Person from working on a person on...

D&D 5E (2014) Capricious Home Rules and DM Pet Peeves

The "Clear Path to the Target" requirement for casting spells doesn't work as it's intended, so I'm chucking that rule out the window for the game I'm planning. The Craw recently talked about it a little bit in a podcast recently, but I still dislike the rule and the justification he gave for...
