D&D 5E (2014) Crystal Ball: A year in, how do you think 5E will unfold going forward?

The thing is they should be able to pursue a "branding" strategy while also supporting the RPG in more than minimal way. Given adequate resources, this should be possible. My take-away is that the D&D team is being asked to do too much with limited budget and limited manpower. It may be...

D&D 5E (2014) I think WotC has it backwards (re: story arcs)

I'm all for WOTC giving their 5E plan a go provided they clearly communicate what that plan is....especially in reagrds to these two areas: 1. game support. 2. setting support. After the game being out this long, I don't understand why we're still having to guess about this stuff. Does...

D&D 5E (2014) I think WotC has it backwards (re: story arcs)

Mike Mearls has made the board game analogy before....I'm just not sure how that works with UA and with game expansions like the Elemental evil one. So is it the difference being that splatbook type material is ok as long as its free? I'm not sure I quite follow the reasoning there...

D&D 5E (2014) I think WotC has it backwards (re: story arcs)

That was a long well thought out post Jester C. I agree with your reasoning on most of your points. I do wonder a few things: How do the Unearthed Arcana articles relate to all this? How does WOTC expressing interest in campaign settings tie into the new model? and finally, I agree that...

Rodney Thompson Leaves Wizards of the Coast

Best of luck to Rodney. I would add my voice to the chorus of well-wishers earlier in the thread as well as thank him for the quality of his work at WOTC. In particular, Star Wars and D&D were enriched by his work on those two lines. I remember reading about Rodney when researching Star...

D&D 5E (2014) I think WotC has it backwards (re: story arcs)

Given unlimited time and energy, I'd be making up all my own stuff. Unfortunately I don't have all the time and energy to do so anymore. Real life and its demands get in the way. So I have to lean on premade stuff more than I did back when I was younger...I'd imagine that's true of alot of...

    D&D 5E (2014) Thinking about 5E releases...

Excuse me? You always do what and I don't? What are you trying to say? What "history" do we have and what "game" are you talking about? You're implying something there that I don't care for. At all. Instead of attacking what people say, being argumentative and trying to turn stuff around...

    D&D 5E (2014) Thinking about 5E releases...

C'mon Mistwell. That's being a bit disingenious. I'm not asking you to do anything you haven't asked other posters to do on other threads.

    D&D 5E (2014) Thinking about 5E releases...

Cite them. Otherwise the thread is in a he said/she said type of situation. My own play through of the adventures so far agrees with Coredump's point.

    D&D 5E (2014) Thinking about 5E releases...

Another thing to think about when comparing page count between old school modules and modern adventures is differences in formatting and organization of material. That can make a big difference in terms of what you cover and in how many pages. It's a lot more complicated than just counting pages.

    D&D 5E (2014) Thinking about 5E releases...

Coredump has a good point. The use of "milestone" type advancement in the Tyranny of Dragons adventures betrays the fact that the content in parts is pretty light.

    Why no official game?

I'd imagine that's a big part of it.....or at least that interested parties at least think it is so.

    Why no official game?

I would be very interested to see what a company like Cubicle 7 would do with a Star Trek game. What they did with Dr Who was pretty impressive.

    Why no official game?

You guys are right. I shouldn't have brought my personal opinion of the new movies into it as that is entirely subjective. And I shouldn't have spoken as if my guesses about current state of fandom are facts when they are opinions. So again my bad.

    Why no official game?

Ratings do factor in Morrus. Paramount gauging fan loss of interest and trying to combat that is one reason they di the soft reboot of Trek '09 in the first place. Its very germane to the discussion, don't you think? I can't say about Star Trek and Into Darkness. I know the movies made money...

    Why no official game?

Look guys I don't want to argue here. I would humbly submit that you do some readings on the following internet topics: declining ratings, Voyager and Enterprise. Also research the box office of Nemesis and Insurrection. You're right about the Abrams movies making alot of money. They...

    D&D 5E (2014) Thinking about 5E releases...

I'm running Princes of the Apocalypse right now and I'm playing through both Hoard and Rise. So yes....Ive read and interacted with these adventures first hand. I don't think they are equivalent to a collection of shorter old-school modules becasue they weren't written or intended that way...
