[Updated] Chris Sims & Jennifer Clarke Wilkes Let Go From WotC

I wasn't talking about the three core books, primarily. I'm talking about the subsequent releases--these were very much in need of further developmental editing, and were almost certainly pilot runs of what is to come. Yes, these editing problems were probably for reasons beyond the individuals'...

    D&D 5E (2014) Confessions of a guilty conscience DM

Did the PLAYER get enraged? I'm not really into scenarios like what you described, but if you properly briefed the players before the game, I can't see any reason to lose sleep over how it played out.

[Updated] Chris Sims & Jennifer Clarke Wilkes Let Go From WotC

You know, I tweeted Simms some well wishes this morning, and as I was doing so a thought occurred to me. Recent WotC releases have NOT (IMO) been very well edited. Not by any means saying that any individual is responsible--far from it--but if mearls (or the vp) decided there was a...

D&D 5E (2014) RE: Tarasque vs. 5th lv. Wizard scenario - how does Wizard know to use Acid Splash?!?

It is odd, that in an edition where the threat isn't supposed to end when the encounter ends, that they would eliminate one of D&D's most iconic pan-encounter monsters. No matter; I'll just recreate my own 2E version. Still a little weird though.

[Updated] Chris Sims & Jennifer Clarke Wilkes Let Go From WotC

Yeah. Part of me fears they will become mere IP management specialists, rather than game content creators. The other part of me is just glad that they may find away to reconcile D&D with Hasboro margin and growth targets. Gary Gygax & friends invented a wonderful game. They did not, however...

[Updated] Chris Sims & Jennifer Clarke Wilkes Let Go From WotC

If they're cutting editors across the board, then we should be hearing about MTG guys going too.

    WotC Closing LISTSERV Mailing Lists

I'm really impressed that they kept the list up for as long as they have. Good on 'em.

    D&D 5E (2014) Can a PC perform a miracle with a stat/skill check?

If PCs can pray for miracles, I would expect them to do so on more than one occasion. So I would consider creating a house rule, rather than a ruling, to handle the situation. HOUSE RULE: Thieves' World has some interesting rules for bestowing curses--I might look to them for inspiration...

D&D 5E (2014) What are the Roles now?

I didn't say that 4E roles were excessively vague. I said that "4E Roles" is an excessively vague term. Which it most certainly is, if people are miscommunicating by quoting only the 4e PHB.

D&D 5E (2014) What are the Roles now?

That was a very thoughtful and (for me) relatable post. If we follow through with what you're saying, then the conclusion must be that "4E Roles" is an excessively vague term, since roles are defined differently throughout the run. What are the evolutionary stages of 4E roles you would like the...

D&D 5E (2014) What are the Roles now?

I don't think that MMOs are all similar to each other. That's a really bizarre opinion for anyone to hold--why are you attributing it to me?

D&D 5E (2014) What are the Roles now?

I think it's a matter of ships passing in the night. Sorry; I can't explain it any more clearly than I have.

D&D 5E (2014) What are the Roles now?

I doubt you've misunderstood? It isn't a complex point--I don't like that the designers removed a leg out of the journey that players take with their characters. OTOH if you doubt it can happen with the same player time and time again, then we certainly don't see eye to eye. I don't see what...

Warforged, Kender, Multiverses, & Errata - An Eclectic News Summary!

Sorry! I thought I was quoting the poster above you. The big problem that I can see with other setting support is that their MMO is Forgotten Realms specific. Naturally I don't know how much money it brings in, but thus far it seems to be playing a big role in their cross media events. There's...

D&D 5E (2014) What are the Roles now?

Because it's a similar family of games using exactly the same word for approximately the same thing.

D&D 5E (2014) What are the Roles now?

I mean the transformation of a character/player combo from someone who doesn't know their role to someone who does. That was part of the journey; and then that part of the game got taken out.

D&D 5E (2014) What are the Roles now?

To my mind, these differences (darkly) mirror the differences between early and late World of Warcraft roles. At every point in the game's life cycle, roles have been a critical part of the way WoW is played. But big changes in presentation and focus very much changed how the game was played and...

D&D 5E (2014) RE: Tarasque vs. 5th lv. Wizard scenario - how does Wizard know to use Acid Splash?!?

They are, however, immune to rays, bolts, etc. The category is only loosely defined--but I think it's likely a 2E inspired version of this monster would reflect acid splash (for example).

Warforged, Kender, Multiverses, & Errata - An Eclectic News Summary!

I zeroed in on this phrase, because it seems to premise your entire series of posts in this thread. I think Mearls has been pretty clear that they're not planning anything, in the sense that they don't have a grand strategy nailed down yet. It's perfectly legitimate that they would want to...

Unframed: The Art of Improvisation for Game Masters – Utter Disappointment (If you don’t read it!)

Ditto to what scrivener said. Based on this review + Jacquays on the credits, this book is a very likely buy this month.
