D&D 5E (2014) Nonmagical arrows and magic bows

Thinking it over some more, I'm fine with keeping magical ammo extremely rare. In my game players will spend an attunement slot permanently to create magic items, so forcing magic ammo to be created one at a time will offer a good in-game explanation as to why this stuff isn't common. Mouse...

D&D 5E (2014) Nonmagical arrows and magic bows

Sorry; you misunderstood me. I'm not questioning the existence of magical bows--that would be weird. I'm trying to figure out how to build balanced bows in light of the concerns about ammo stacking and the dearth of +X ranged weapon examples in the DMG. Thanks a bunch guys. This gives me...

WotC's Chris Perkins Talks Realms & Sundering

And bearing that in mind, it speaks volumes that he felt comfortable saying "we lost the fans’ confidence in our stewardship of the setting" with respect to their flagship setting five years ago.

D&D 5E (2014) Nonmagical arrows and magic bows

Stacking ammo and bow on top of the sharpshooter feat is one of my key concerns. The fact that there don't seem to be any official examples of +x ranged weapons also strikes me as a huge warning sign. (I'm still looking around for an example of such--if anyone knows of one, please point it...

D&D 5E (2014) Nonmagical arrows and magic bows

Not arguing that interpretation, but it sure has heck ain't the same thing as an affirmative guideline in the DMG. They don't even have examples of +1 arrows or bows in the DMG as far as I can tell. Does anyone recall these items listed elsewhere?

Do you have a page number on that? I've been looking through and I can't found any place yet where they call it one way or the other.

D&D 5E (2014) Blog of Holding Takes on Treasure Distribution and 1 XP/1 GP

The thief nips in, steals the contents of the kobolds' treasure room and escapes from their warren. Does he get xp for defeating the kobold king and his guards? Does he get xp for defeating all the kobolds present at the warren? Does he get xp for defeating the halfling village which the kobolds...

Awarding xp for encounters still encourages players to encounter monsters, rather than completely bypass them.

Inspiration Houserule - Let Your Players Do The Work!

I always set aside a few minutes at the end of each session for players to award inspiration to each other. My only rule is that it must be awarded for bringing a flaw, ideal, or bond into play in a way that's at least somewhat disadvantageous to the party.

D&D 5E (2014) With the Holy Trinity out, let's take stock of 5E

So I run my dungeons in a pattern recognition format, and I'm not happy with the presentation in the PHB which implies that you explore the environment by rolling a bunch of d20s and narrating the results. Mainly because I think that approach sells D&D short, without offering so much as a...

D&D 5E (2014) Again the Banishment spell ruined my game !

Agreed, except that I don't think the D&D team wrote the rules this way unintentionally. The PHB has quite a few flavor options that--to a certain subset of players--just beg to be houseruled into hooks.

D&D 5E (2014) What is WotC working on now?

To add to this a little bit, Mearls has been exceedingly clear on twitter in affirming that this is *exactly* the reason they're not talking about anything else in the pipeline right now. (I'm not keen on digging up a citation, but I know he said as much in reply to Mistwell .)

    Reviewing Chris Perkins

It's interesting that you mention this. My own experience has been that only certain game styles are watchable--the DM needs to keep up tension by continuously spoon-feeding story elements, the setup must demonstrate player agency to the audience, and the players must use that agency and the...
