    D&D 5E (2014) Does RAW have a place in 5e?

What are you talking about? Applecline has never been a rulings evangelist.

D&D 5E (2014) Inappropriate breasts on female monsters

Whenever this debate comes up, my mind always strays to Police Academy. And then I can't concentrate on the issue because I'm giggling too hard.

D&D 5E (2014) The Art of the Secret Door

I don't usually do any kind of skill checks to find doors. It's all up to the player description of character actions. That said, I'm pretty liberal about giving hot/cold info if the players are pushing the bookcase when they should be pulling (for example). The goal is to have fun interacting...

D&D 5E (2014) WotC will not allow translation of D&D NEXT.

Every company selling to the Japanese market has a lot to lose by lying (or merely being wrong) about something that they might have to walk back from later.

    D&D 5E (2014) 5E Maths

How do I design kick-ass lair actions? That's the big one.

    D&D 5E (2014) So who is playing 5E?

Surfarcher is deriving formulas to build monsters as a function of CR and size. Still hasn't gotten to the damage output yet, though. With those formulas in hand, one could (hopefully) smoothly rebuild a monster from another edition.

    D&D 5E (2014) So who is playing 5E?

Yeah. I really want to see those conversion guidelines. Or surfarcher 's data analysis--whichever comes first...

    D&D 5E (2014) Battlemats?

The options I'm aware of are: Gridded, mini-ready battle mat Ungridded, scale map suitable for measuring distances with a string or ruler Rough sketch or minis on the bare table top, showing relative positioning but not really suited for measuring exact distances Player drawn maps, which may...

    D&D 5E (2014) Battlemats?

Yeah, same. There's some minor learning disabilities involved, and the game just isn't going to go smoothly without a visual aid. I feel like this poll should distinguish between gridded and ungridded mats, though. And also diagrams vs. scale maps.

    D&D 5E (2014) How to stop a Thief

It's not clear from your post whether you THE PLAYER are ok with the thief stealing your character's stuff. If you are: what level is your character? What proficieciencies does the rogue have? If you are not: talk to the DM and deal with this problem out of character. Because an in-game...

D&D 5E (2014) Anything You Miss From Past Editions vs 5E?

http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/classes/gestaltCharacters.htm I cross-posted with you above, and I can see that I might need to now go and educate myself about 1E multiclassing. I don't remember anything like the 90%/10% thing you describe in 2E, and my hands-on 1E experiences were pretty...

D&D 5E (2014) Anything You Miss From Past Editions vs 5E?

Perhaps I'm being daft, but I'm not seeing the difficulty. It seems like it would be enough to just declare that multiclass characters work in the same way as 3.x gestalts, except they gain only half (or one-third) xp from encounters. I would retain 5E's rule about spell slots not stacking.

D&D 5E (2014) Cutting Words and game flow

Even though I roll in the open, I still have problems with abilities that require me to wait on my player's say-so before narrating the results. I like to run my combats fast, and it really cramps my style to have to wait 5-20 seconds every roll. Whether the times add up to something significant...

D&D 5E (2014) Anything You Miss From Past Editions vs 5E?

Yeah. I feel like I've gotten some of the consequence back by HR'ing the heck out of 0 HP (I use the maiming rules in my sig), but there's still not enough "oh, crap, these things don't play on a level field" vibe to certain monsters.

    D&D 5E (2014) Perception/Investigation/Medicine?

In my game we do our exploration free-form, but it seems reasonably clear to me the designers intended the DM to choose the best-sounding skill based on the player's narration. "I'm giving the scene a good once-over looking for clues." Investigation. "Does anything pop out at me as being out of...

D&D 5E (2014) So How Do You Trash A Town?

Why is the town choosing to stand and fight? What makes the town council believe they can withstand the might of an army with two dragons at its back? (I assume the army isn't going to "make an example" out of a town that surrendered, as that would send the wrong message.)

    D&D 5E (2014) So who is playing 5E?

I'm running a weekly game on roll20, sort of expanding on SotSC. Been looking for a game to get in on as a player, but it's been tough going.

    D&D 5E (2014) Sage Advice!

I had the same reaction to your post as Mistwell, though I might have phrased it differently. The problem was not the opinion, it was the presentation. "I find it hard to believe that people actually like this thing" are fighting words, no matter where you post them. The non-fighty version would...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5e as an universal gaming engine ?

If I'm going to agree, for the sake of argument, that d20 was a pretty solid universal game engine, then I don't see how 5E's basic ruleset is going to be any worse. In many ways could turn out to be better, since flatter progression and natural language rules are probably give more scope for...

    D&D 5E (2014) MM Preview: Cambion

It looks indeterminate to me. Which, I think, is as it should be.
