D&D 5E (2014) Those of you who have actually PLAYED 5e...

--Set expectations early by letting the players experience the 5E threat level of lower level monsters. --Make sure your spellcaster players have a good system for quickly referencing the (badly laid out) spell section of the phb. Post-its or searchable pdfs work nicely. --If you're playing on a...

    D&D 5E (2014) The Champion. Needs Fixing?

You probably could have called it the "girlfriend/boyfriend" class and saved yourself the trouble.

How many total pages in the tarrasque entry?

    D&D 5E (2014) There's one thing about 5E I don't like...

There are downtime rules for training for proficiency with tools and learning languages. "Other training options" are left up to the DM's discretion.

D&D 5E (2014) Hoard of the Dragon Queen: As it Turns out, it's Pretty Good (so far)

To be clear, I'm only asking about the commercial success of story-driven APs, and how this success is affected by the level of detail provided/vs. what is left for the GM to fill in. (Leaving completely aside the question of plot-free sandboxes.) It's not completely clear to me that Paizo has...

D&D 5E (2014) Hoard of the Dragon Queen: As it Turns out, it's Pretty Good (so far)

I would be interested in hearing why you believe this. Anecdotally, most of my players are strongly disinclined toward pathfinder APs because they are too scripted. While they all appreciate the production values, they usually get antsy and resentful of the heavy-handed tactics necessary to pull...

D&D 5E (2014) Tips, hints, and suggestions for running 5E via tinychat or Google Hangouts (no video or audio dear god no!)

Roll20 is incredible. It single-handedly allows me to pursue this hobby despite living far off the beaten path. My advice? Use voice audio for out of character chat--it'll help tremendously with the pace of the game.

    D&D 5E (2014) Sphinx

Like the art again, and I'm also happy about what they did with the lair actions. These things could be used in combat, but mainly they seem to serve as plot hooks. Comparing this to the tarrasque, it now also looks like a couple of pages were missing from the tarrasque preview--I have the idea...

    D&D 5E (2014) I have something... THE TARRASQUE!

Pros: I really dig the art. Cons: I'm guessing these two pages are all the tarrasque there is? If so, then I'm disappointed by the short, airy descriptive text and the lack of iconic regenerative powers.

D&D Fans Rejoice:! WotC Releases the 5th Edition Player’s Handbook! (Part 2: Adventuring & Magic)

It seems clear to me (a little too meta osr, coupled with a lower itemized score), but this isn't a situation where pedantry is going to be rewarded.

D&D Fans Rejoice:! WotC Releases the 5th Edition Player’s Handbook! (Part 2: Adventuring & Magic)

The word "meta" is neutral. The value judgments lie in the phrases "a little meta OSR,"; and "oddly meta," set up to contrast with "but potentially there is something in this game system that any roleplayer can enjoy."

D&D Fans Rejoice:! WotC Releases the 5th Edition Player’s Handbook! (Part 2: Adventuring & Magic)

The review does present 5E's OSR-ness in a negative light, and counts it as a negative during the final scoring.

    D&D 5E (2014) Bracers of Defense

This may have changed, but I understood from the L&L that +3 armor was meant to have other major benefits alongside the "boring" +3 bonus. IOW, there is no straight +3 armor--it always gets packaged with other stuff. The only "plain" versions of weapons and armor are the +/-1 versions. If this...

D&D 5E (2014) Cure Wounds: does it heal amputees?

In the old editions (1-3, IIRC) there were different spells that regenerated missing limbs.

The double standard for magical and mundane abilities

I agree that it would be more symmetrical if D&D had a roll-based casting system. (I think it would also be cool; I love the way that idea played out in DCC.) I don't agree that this has much to do with my response to the OP, which had nothing to say about what the rules SHOULD do, nor about...

The double standard for magical and mundane abilities

I'm not clear on your basis for comparison. The original complaint was that the rogue was denied his most basic, goto, rules-as-written attack option because of verisimilitude concerns; whereas the mage and the cleric were not. Whether the mage is a great simulation (of whatever mages...

The double standard for magical and mundane abilities

Nor do they ask the fighter why he can hit the same enemy twice in the same encounter. I think the magical/mundane double standard is a red herring: it's a stealth/nonstealth issue. Stealth in combat is a particular bugbear, because it's hampered by the fact that D&D combat has no facing rules...

D&D 5E (2014) How Often Are You Handing Out Inspiration?

Every session ending, I go around to each player without inspiration and ask: "Do you feel you've been acting on your character's traits, flaws, or bonds?"

D&D 5E (2014) Does the inclusion of these two gamers undo WOTC desire to be inclusive?

That's because this matter is a spat between two groups of TTRPG hobbyists who appear to genuinely hate each other. Note that the article you cited does not read as if written by a neutral observer.
