    Scourge of the Sword Coast

4 out of 5 rating for Scourge of the Sword Coast Ran this as an introduction to a sandbox campaign. It's got a lot going for it, in terms of open ended-ness and good ole dungeon crawling. However, I absolutely don't recommend using Dead in Thay as the follow-up adventure: you're much better off...

    D&D 5E (2014) Treasure Ammunition Doubt

Yeah, this. Either exclude magic ammo, or ban the feat. I'm inclined to suspect that the purpose of single-item ammunition was to effectively remove ammo from the game, without explicitly doing so (presumably to keep a semblance of older-edition comparability.)

    D&D 5E (2014) Not liking Bounded Accuracy

I really like the lower progression curve--it was a genuine improvement in my view. In a lot of ways it feels like they merely lowered the curve on the 3E math and then moved on, rather than getting a good feel for the ramifications of these changes and internalizing them in core rule...

Gail Gygax On Memorial Funds & Legal Expenses

Maybe it's just my imagination, but I suspect Gail suffers from subtle comparisons to Lorriane Williams.

    D&D 5E (2014) Need a safety net for 1st level characters -- it's complicated

Give 'em a staff of reincarnation with any number of charges. That'll learn 'em.

    D&D 5E (2014) Minis and no grid?

I do the online equivalent; I have portraits on an ungridded non-map background, and move the portraits around and draw doodles to get the relative positioning of everything important.

D&D 5E (2014) Ed Greenwoods Forgotten Realms on Drive Thru with interesting history posted

I don't believe either of these things are even slightly true.

Which D&D Settings Do You Play In?

Perversely, I feel like Golarion should be an option on this poll.

    D&D 5E (2014) Legendary issues

Although in this case the rules as physics thing doesn't bother me, I definitely narrate the LAs as if they were reactions. "As your sword runs through the vampire's belly she just stands there and looks sadly into your eyes. Why are you doing this to me? ... make a will save." Fact is, I...

Fantasy Grounds Now Offers Free Trial; Plus D&D 5E Basic Rules Now Included In All Licenses

Yep. It's not just that single feature (as you know), but that's one of 'em. Anyway, I just want to reiterate--lest it be forgotten, this is what I came into the thread for--that I think those 3D map demonstrations look very impressive. Communicating spacial information in three dimensions is...

Fantasy Grounds Now Offers Free Trial; Plus D&D 5E Basic Rules Now Included In All Licenses

That isn't the same feature. Consider: RPTools and R20 offer both features for free; FG charges money but offers only one feature. I understand that you're a dedicated FG customer, but you're (maybe unwittingly) mirroring the language of marketing employees addressing PR problems. That's not...

Fantasy Grounds Now Offers Free Trial; Plus D&D 5E Basic Rules Now Included In All Licenses

It's not clear in your answer whether you understood, so I'll just say again that I want to ping the map as a player. I am aware that the DM can push his map view out to the players, but that doesn't in any way help players point out parts of the map to ask questions or to explain actions.

D&D 5E (2014) How badly did Sword Coast Legends damage the brand?

That estimate doesn't account for returns either, IIRC.

D&D 5E (2014) Average damage or rolled damage?

Yeah. Average damage and dice are tools in the DM's tookit; it's not an all or none question, it's what makes the game better for this group at this particular moment in time.

    DRAGON+ #3

2 out of 5 rating for DRAGON+ #3 I resent them leveraging the old magazine brands to push advertisements for fourth-rate video games. But the price is right, I guess.

D&D 5E (2014) How badly did Sword Coast Legends damage the brand?

Not much/not at all. Consumers are used to it. Crappy licensed computer/video games are the norm, and consumers always blame the licensee, not the licencor.

Fantasy Grounds Now Offers Free Trial; Plus D&D 5E Basic Rules Now Included In All Licenses

I want to do this. Not what I mean: I want to type "+543" into my xp field (for example) and have the program add 543 to the preexisting xp value. (I'm aware that the DM can give out xp on his end; that's not what I'm talking about, here.)

Fantasy Grounds Now Offers Free Trial; Plus D&D 5E Basic Rules Now Included In All Licenses

It was a 5E game, but it predated your 5E wotc license. (So I'm withholding gripes about 5E specific stuff.) Also it's the middle of the workday and I'm posting from memory, so this ain't exhaustive. Why couldn't I ping the map? Why couldn't I add/subtract numbers from existing values on my...

Fantasy Grounds Now Offers Free Trial; Plus D&D 5E Basic Rules Now Included In All Licenses

Okay, I wasn't impressed at all by my experience as a player with FG--the interface was among the worst I have ever had to wrestle with, and there were a lot of annoying missing features that for some reason other free competitors have no problem including. But if/when 3D map making finds its...
