Pathfinder 1E What Made You Switch To Pathfinder?

In my mind at the time, Pathfinder was the current edition of D&D. There was no decision or vote, really. Our group just started playing pathfinder because, duh, we want to play current edition D&D.

    D&D 5E (2014) DM Quits The Game

It sounds like you're trying to force a square peg into a round hole, by prepping an adventure arc for a beer n pretzels group. Recruit different players, leave off DMing, or explore a different game style. Them's really your only options.

Sword Coast Legends To Introduce RAGE OF DEMONS and Tile Based Editor

I think you're drawing the wrong conclusion. Metacrtic's list of review summaries is littered with condemnations for not staying true to the ruleset ("its clear Diablo and Dragon Age influences may rub D&D purists the wrong way") and qualifiers disclaiming any connection to the 5E ruleset ("If...

    White Wolf Bought By Paradox

Yeah. I can't say PI is my favorite developer, but if I was to draw up a shortlist of best possible computer game houses to pick up this IP, they'd easily make the top ten. They treat customers feedback seriously, they make DLC (usually) worth buying, and they by all appearances create games...

    White Wolf Bought By Paradox

Paradox has a proven record of serving niche markets--a trait that's not common as one might wish. I'm kind of looking forward to seeing what they have in mind.

D&D 5E (2014) Adventure Design: Backstory and History

As a rule, I'm looking for two types of things when I read an adventure with my DM's eye. (As opposed to reading for pleasure.) First, does it have a lot of descriptions/dialog ideas with interesting word choices that I probably wouldn't have hit upon myself? I never read whole sentences to the...

    Sword Coast Legends

1 out of 5 rating for Sword Coast Legends If they get the bugs fixed, it might be worth a pickup for less than five US dollars. I bet the makers wish they could have released this game before Steam's return policy was introduced.

    Fantasy Grounds

2 out of 5 rating for Fantasy Grounds I haven't used FG as a DM--maybe it's just wonderful from that perspective. I wouldn't know. HOWEVER, as a player, I found the user interface frustrating and counter-intuitive, and the lack of very basic features such as hover-over tooltips, map pinging and...

SWORD COAST LEGENDS Is Out Today

Once the bugs are patched, I could probably recommend this game as a decent $5 summer sale pickup. Otherwise it's just a deeply mediocre unity action rpg with the D&D license slapped on. Crikey, even the storytelling is semi-professional. The only thing this game will be remembered for is the...

What's The Deal With D&D Translations?

I dunno--it depends on the particulars of the original work. I'd say the tone in the 5E manual is unremarkable enough that it could be translated into other Latinate languages without much loss--the only standout prose I can remember is the bit about trans elves being made in their god's image...

What's The Deal With D&D Translations?

That smells fishy. What's the benefit of simultaneous release of different products into separate markets? If there's benefits of tying printed releases with electronic releases, why the blazes aren't they doing that now, with English language 5E? I half suspect Perkins is telling us there...

What's The Deal With D&D Translations?

I'm afraid I have nothing but contempt for WotC's handling of translation licences thus far.

Last D&D Survey Results In! Plus What's Up With The Ranger?

That's pretty much where I'm at. I just can't imagine how "the animal's action takes your action" made it past the playtesters without this feature getting flagged.

D&D 5E (2014) If you use Group Initiative (like my group does), why do you use it?

I use group initiative because it's a lot faster.

    D&D 5E (2014) Carrion Crawler Queen lair

Looks pretty cool to me. If I was adapting it for my games I'd probably pare down the aquatic reach as I play gridless, and I'd give it fewer attacks with automatic grapples, but those are mostly playstyle things.

    D&D 5E (2014) Carrion Crawler Queen lair

The last two actions look like legendaries to me--they're more reactive, and might make the fight seem more dynamic if they happen at unpredictable intervals. Cool lair actions... hmmm. Some kind of ranged aoe effect seems about right; like maybe an exploding egg pod spreading noxious goo, or a...

    D&D 5E (2014) Carrion Crawler Queen lair

Not that it matters a lot, but why are those Lair Actions and not Legendary Actions?

RPG Evolution: Is the OSR Dead?

Those, and the AMA, are the only mearls quotes on the subject of OSR influence that I'm aware of, and this is a thread that wouldn't be harmed by a few solid citations. To be crystal clear, that was my first post in this thread and I don't know what other posters were referring to. Do you have...

RPG Evolution: Is the OSR Dead?
